Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I can’t see any alternative but to become a Demon.

Im not sure what he is on at the pies, but say it’s 480k a year and pies have offered him another 2 years and maybe a rise to 550k

Dees offer could be 600k a year over 3 so he is 700k better off overall.

Pies can’t match as they still have to retain Grundy and Moore for this year on bigger dollars and players like DeGoey next year.

Should be a no brainer to the MFC

Elliot signed a 1 year deal last year in the middle of his injury issues, he would be on a very reduced wage atm, I would be surprised if Melbourne has offered him anything exceptional it’s mainly just the security of time

my guess would be something in the 400-500 range dependant on certain mile stones being reached

Collingwood's Best and Fairest is on tonight so there will be no announcement that he is leaving the Pies until after that lest he get lynched by a toothless mob.

I'm hoping he either stays at the Pies or goes elsewhere because I don't think our supporter base could handle another long term injury to a big name recruit.

Dees offered 750k from what I heard.

If he gets that he will roughly equal our highest paid players:  May and Lever the only Demons around that mark.  At a guess, Max might be getting close.

Huge risk for a perenniallt injured player.  It won't go down well if he breaks down next year, especially after our other big plays in the aforementioned May and Lever.  Not to mention it will deliver pick #17 to the Pies!

The Pies do have 3 small/medium forwards best suited to leading out of the goal square in De Goey, Stephenson and Elliott. This would be a factor in Elliott's decision in 2 ways if he decides to leave. Firstly,  where is he in the pecking order for rotation time deep forward? Secondly, how much of their cap do the Pies want to invest in that type of player? De Goey particularly, and Stephenson will both want substantial contracts. How many dollars does that leave for Elliott's contract?

On another matter if we accepted rumours about what clubs are offering players no club'd be anywhere near under the salary cap. I doubt we have offered Elliott $750,000 a year.

My understanding was that he would be on around $350-400 for 3 years with a clause for a 4th. Collingwood are offering $250-300 for 2 years. No Idea where this $750 came from. It would be considerably negligent in our due-diligence to offer such a large amount of money for Elliott considering his history.

I know I’m a broken record on this, but it still always surprises me when people care about how much players are paid. When a) we have no idea how we’re positioned salary cap wise and b) we can only ever guess how much they’re actually paid anyway, it makes the whole conversation meaningless.

Why? Landing a player by offering decent coin and terms does not a good get make. Proof will be in the pudding. If he plays the majority of games next year and beyond and maintains the same or similar output then we can talk.

I think you might underestimate what goes into recruiting a player. We have targetted player a long way out (Lever, Langdon)  including Elliott.  Before any money is mentioned you must convince the player that your club is the one he should play for.  That includes values, culture, future prospects, the role he will play and so on.  If he doesn't like that money won't even be mentioned.

Elliott is a good player who most likely could choose a number of clubs.  He's chosen us by the sound of it.  We beat the Hawks, that's why they are out of it.  Mahoney, Goodwin, Taylor and a number of others have most likely played a role in convincing him we are worth his future.  Obviously once that's done the money counts but it's the last piece to fall into place.

Where has it been said publicly that Hawthorn are out of contention?

Neil Balme was interesting talking about players salaries yesterday. He spoke about how different players have different packages. Using Paddy Ryder's supposed new offer he said although it may seem high, it could also seem low depending how it is viewed.

For example if Paddy plays 15 games and has good KPIs he will be in clover. Maybe $450,000 or more. If however because of recurring injuries he plays only 10 games he might only make 2/3 of that.

That isnt exactly what was said but he seemed to be making that point when asked about an average players salary.

So to extrapolate that, Collingwood may believe he will only be able to play 10 "Good" games, whereas Elliot believes he is fit for 20 Excellent games and is prepared to risk KPI's to acheive $750,000

The problem with having too much of a contract in incentives is that it makes it hard to budget your salary cap.

I always find it interesting as far as the difference in what a player will accept at different clubs.

ie - Let's say Elliot stays at the Pies for 500K when we've offered 750k. Says a lot about how the industry perceives us as a destination in my opinion.

That's assuming that 750K is accurate...

Well I would love to know how much each and every player receives.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
