Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Young would be a good pick but imo Ash is a better fit right now.  His pace is the standout.

Speed of ball use > speed of foot

You seem to have an obsession with foot speed. Ash is fast, but like Frost has a tendency to blindly bomb away or miskick because of how quickly he is travelling.

Look at Hawthorn and Richmond's lists as templates during flag years. Richmond play an incredibly intense and quick surge game that requires an extremely high level of execution of disposal. If they don't have that, it breaks down.

Hawthorn drafted and traded for elite ball users and demolished opposition sides because they could completely dictate the speed of games.

We were one of the poorest skilled sides and are one of the poorest skilled sides. It is ball use and footy IQ that we are in desperate need of. It runs from ball use coming from defence through to first disposal out of a contest in the middle, through to delivery inside 50.

We look slow because we are slow in the way we use the ball and make decisions.

Pace or more importantly burst speed is so essential at AFL level. You can have the most sublime skills at junior level but if you get caught in  a tackle or get caught flat footed while your opposition turns you that's the end.

Hard decisions.

Is it easier to make someone faster or a better kick

Spot on.

Ash adds speed. But tends to run himself into trouble or just bomb away unexpectedly to no one in particular.

Some people are overly obsessed with speed.

Who's the better kick. Young or Gould?

Looking at his highlights package Gould is an exceptional kick, has good speed across the ground and is strong around the ball and in the air.

Does young have these attributes beside his kicking ability?

Hayden Young.  Absolute gun ball user. Exactly what MFC needs!! We are turnover kings. Young is a smart player and has gone aerial skills and endurance.  Has the makings of a 10-year plus player.  Hard to bypass at pick 3.

Are Young and Weightman exactly what we need or is it someone else?

What's your top 10?

Top 10

1&2 Rowell and Anderson

pick 3 Tom Green (Dees should nominate him if we don’t get the required pick exchange )

4- Young

5- Kemp

6- Serong

7- Stephens

8- Flanders

9- Ash

10- Gould

others like Weightman but I have him around 18-20.

I’m a wrap for Jeremy Sharp from WA.  Another WA kid who might fly under the radar because he’s not in the NAB league focus. Already playing seniors. Could go at 14-15 imo.  Deven Robertson is also a gun from WA and likely picked as a top 12 player.

Well there it is!

Based on the 4 minute highlight clips that we all form our options from he is our man!!!

Did not want that highlight reel to stop. I read that he is a great intercept marker too as well as pretty courageous and willing to out him body on the line.

Isn' it strange, reading into  all the media hype pre trade period and before gold Coast got thier charity package I had the Impression this was a pretty shallow draft I can now see us taking two very solid players capable of playing 200 plus games for the club.

The only worry is we can get caught in drafting for needs e.g weightman unless our scouts who should have been watching the under 18s all year and would know much more than us(not always gaurenteed to be correct though)... Also players who may not translate to afl, (small ceiling players) we need to look for players with elite ball use and decision making as well as predict the ability for them to continue to improve and mature into star afl players.

GREAT WORK DEES, love the idea of sacrificing next year' first rround in a draft full of academy/ father sons for this year' group of boys.

Watched all 11 of Young's highlight wraps from the the NAB League app, Weightman > 6, Kemp > 3, Serong > 5, Flanders >11, Ash 10 plus the rwo main reels for Stephens & Gould.

Based on what we need and who is the best available i would go...

Pick 3.  Young

Pick 8.  Weightman/Stephens (can't split those two... haven't seen enough of Stephens and unsure of his actual height with one report saying 183cm another saying 172cm).

I seriously don't see much upside for us in the other options aside from Gould IF we were after another tall running HB and i'm not sure we need another.  Although who knows, if one or two key backs go down during 2020 with significant injury.  Also a handy option for when May hangs the boots up.

If we were assured of getting young should we split and received say 6 and a 20 and he Gould was still there around then i would go.

Young, Weightman/Stephens & Gould.

I was hoping to see a larger sample size of his kick into the middle against WA, the video above indicates he is indeed an elite kick off his left.

What i liked most were his marks backing into traffic and not taking his eyes off it and his tackle at the 2.35 mark where he engaged in some argy bargy after laying the tackle (i like a bit of mongrel in players!).

This video has now assured me that he is the one we need at pick 3, pick 8 can be Kemp if he gets through or Weightman if not.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
