Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If he was such a standout he wouldn't be projected go as low as pick 10,  although to be fair anyone could have made that page.

Well we are all eagerly awaiting your draft guide.

Go ahead and compile all the stats and draft combine results and compile a list of over 100 players.

No brainer.

Please do not split 3. Please.

Yeah, I've taken my time, but I've finally decided I hope we use pick 3 to draft Young. I hope we don't split pick 3, but don't mind if we split pick 8. I still believe we are going to draft Weightman with our second pick anyway, so if we can split it, get Weightman & get Pickett also, even better.

Young simply is the best choice at 3. For years we have tolerated turnovers and poor disposal.  Young is the best kick but also importantly is a very good footballer. He can play back or midfield (wing) with excellent aerial skills.
He would bring disposal into forward 50 which is crucial.

I saw him 3 times in full games and he was BOG in all 3 games imo.  And if you forget how good this kid is, watch his highlights again.

Skills. Footy smarts. Physically sound.  Captained Stingrays under 18s this year.
Knows what’s required as his brother is at the Bulldogs.
Being a local boy is just a bonus.

The low ball drop is a delight. Definetely a Hibberd replacement. Be interested to know if he could make it into the midfield. Salem, as an example, has struggled to make that transition.

Elite kicking skills. Words not used to describe a Demons player. Young has elite kicking skills. A lock at 3 imo.

James Strauss had elite kicking skills. Just saying someone is a nice kick doesn’t necessarily make them the best pick.

The other reason why I think we are leaning towards Jackson with this pick is a half back flanker who use the footy fine are easy to find. Marty Hore, Luke Ryan, Zac Williams Tom Stewart are just a few gems who were all half back flanker that were picked late in the draft.

A player in the caliber of Brodie Grundy and Max Gawn are very rare to find. It's no coincidence that the past 3 years these two have dominated All Australian selection. Grundy and Gawn are in their own league. Tim English will be right up there in about 2 years time.

Bring in Luke Jackson means we are set for another 10 years in our ruck department and we can focus on other holes on our list for the next few years.

There are 5 or 6 quality half back options in this draft alone. We could select a good one at 8 or split that pick and still potentially nab Kemp, Gould, Rivers or Day.

Have to back and trust our system.

For every Jesse Hogan, there is a Cale Hooker, Andrew Swallow, Harry Taylor, Alex Rance, Lance Franklin and Stephen Congilio who have all come from WA and yet most likely will finish their careers with their clubs without going back to their native state.

Go home factor does not scare me.

I saw James Strauss gather the ball in the back pocket and kick it 20 metres to the opposition resulting in...... A goal!

Elite kicking skills??? I think not!

Exactly.

The likes of Gould, Rivers and Sharp are all highly talented HBF's that can do just as a good job as of Young.

None as good as Young.  If GC didn’t have the 1st 2 picks, Young would be in the discussion to  be taken at 2

Doubt it, Tom Green would be right in their sights. He is behind Rowell and Anderson in terms of talent, if not equal.

Was that James Strauss’s first game when the Melbourne coaching staff decided to give him the kicking out duties against a rampaging Hawthorn side? His first game.

James also had a shoulder reconstruction, ankle and leg problems and that completely sickening injury where he broke both his tibula and fibula. Later he had his face kicked in by Campbell Brown when playing against the Suns.

Who knows James may have not been up to an AFL career but I think it would be fair to say he didn’t get a fair run at it.

Is Young purely a half back, surely there’s scope for for him to play other positions. Our team lacks good users of the ball by foot, Young would not be surplus to our needs.

I think it’s too early for Jackson to be described as “the caliber of Grundy and Gawn”. His highlights had him dominating the ruck but his disposal by foot wasn’t great. Would like to see some footage of him taking some big pack marks and his set shots on goal before using pick 3 on him. He doesn’t mind getting physical which is obviously a good thing. If he could dominate the fwd line then by all means but until then....

Considering where we finished in 2018 and then last year, I still think we need to use our picks on players that can kick. With our draw we should be playing finals but based on last year obviously nothing can be taken for granted. In another year if things were different I’d be all in for him but right now I don’t think we can afford the risk.

I personally would take Young and Ash/Stephens.

Hayden Young

Young excelled as a HBF this year, as an elite intercept marker and best rebounding kick in this draft class. His kicking has great penetration is reliable both long and short. Young also did stints in the midfield after the championships to prove his inside ball-winning ability and versatility to recruiters. He performed well both inside and outside, cementing his top 5 draft status. Young projects as a future club captain and elite half back flanker.

Position - Half back flank, inside midfield, outside midfield.

Leadership - Elite, captain of his club, good on-field general and well-spoken. Likened to a young Luke Hodge.
Kicking - Elite (best kick in the draft)
Handballing - Good, usually to teammates advantage
Intercept marking - Elite (top 3 in this draft)
Agility - Elite (top ranked player at the draft combine)
Speed - Good
Tackling - Good-very good
Aggression - Elite, has mongrel in him
Production - Very good-elite, disposal average towards the high end of players this year

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
