Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Petracca on the Move?

My mail is that Tracc had the opportunity and was being pressured (somewhat) to move at his last contract negotiations but chose not to as he was happy with things at the MFC (at that point).  If you recall, at that time he stated he wanted to be a one club player.

I recall he said he wanted to be a "Hall of Famer"

Yeah right

Spot on 'Rusty Nails'.

2020 is a huge year for player retention:

  • Petracca out of contract
  • Hunt and Harmes OOC and in their 'pre-free-agent' year
  • Salem not OOC and also in his 'pre-free-agent' year
  • Hannan, Fritsch, Petty and a few others OOC.

Wondering if anyone is confident one of the Adelaide clubs won't make a play for Petty next year?

For mine we need to fix the off-field stuff, improve player development and make inroads into finals (not just scrape in and go straight out) and no reason for players to go.  Fail on those and who knows who will fly the coop.  Lord knows there will be plenty of enticement from other clubs for their services.  Undoubtedly clubs would be circling as right now.  As as you have alluded to our friends down the road are circling.  Who knows if any of the above are enticed out next year but we need to give them every reason to stay.

Hopefully, most of the above will have re-signed by mid 2020 for more than their 'pre-free-agent' timeframe.  For mine the number of young talent re-signing by around mid-year will be a litmus test of how the club is traveling.

We can only hope LH.  Every year is critical especially with a struggling club like ourselves.  My gut feel tells me this off season might well be the most crucial since 1996.

Much will depend on the trade period and how well the FD culls / refreshes a very vanilla list.

A large part on chaos vs control footy.  How Goody handles it.  How we recruit for those changes or additional layers ...that's IF Goody is doing so.

Speed, skills, a decent small or two, a KF and some serious X factor needed.  Might need a few years to get what's needed though in order to go deep into finals.

Plenty of incentive for everyone to take it to another level and, as you say, get back to some finals success as a minimum pass mark.

The Collingwood pressure comes from his father, who remains a keen Magpies fans and would love Tracc in black and white. My journo mate told me there is no interest from Collingwood. Simply that Collingwood aren’t interested in acquiring. That was said in Round 11. If things have changed, then maybe they have.

I am fine with what @Demons11 @Lord Nevand @Demon Forever  have posted.  The latter virtually confirming the others who reported having 'heard' that Petracca has been unhappy and had meetings with the club.

Any player manager worth his/her salt would sass out other options for him.  And lets not be naive enough to think other clubs aren't knocking on player manager doors especially if they get a sniff of a player being unhappy  The player manager is obliged to pass that on.

Lets say that Geelong have been talking to Petracca's manager, it doesn't mean Petracca initiated it.  He would be a fool to not listen to what they have to say.  And Geelong desperately need a player like him as Selwood, Danger and Ablett are aging and they will lose Kelly.   They don't have a potentially elite midfielder in the wings.  Petracca would be a perfect fit.

Collingwood is in the same boat with Pendlebury, Sidebottom and Wells getting on and Beams in all sorts of grief.  They do have better midfield coverage than Geelong so less in need of a Petracca type.

The club and Petracca seem to have sorted out their differences and as Demon Forever said 'nothing to see here'.  Petracca is under contract so isn't likely to go anywhere this year.  But next year is a different story.   That Petracca stays doesn't mean any of the 3 posters above were wrong.  Differences were sorted.

Why folks are complaining about posters saying what they have 'heard'.  There are posters who have contacts at mfc, other clubs and player managers but they can hardly name their source.  That things don't eventuate isn't proof that what they heard was wrong.  There are numerous, genuine reasons why things don't eventuate.

I would rather read what posters 'hear' than not - it would be a very boring trade period if none of that came to DL.  If some posters don't want to read it fine, but please stop the whinging about it.

A little common sense.  Great post mate.

It's not so much what people say they've heard. It's the ones that spout it as absolute fact. But when you question them about it, they somehow backtrack or spout a generic line to cover their tracks. I could say several things that have been told to me, but I don't because a lot of it is hearsay atm. I don't know what is 100% true and what is fake. If I ever post what I've heard, I always add the moniker "may, possibly, could" never "will, curtain, absolute." Do you understand what I mean?

I don’t disagree with you on this and I would never post something unless it was someone who didn’t have direct contact with the player involved.

The stupid thing is, as far as I'm aware, Petracca and his management had a meeting with Goodwin and Co. They had a robust discussion about his playing future (ie. he wants to play more midfield time) where they come out with a mutual understanding, and then suddenly that's ballooned out to "He's not happy at the club and is looking for a trade." Suddenly, everyone asunder has heard something, but no mainstream media is discussing it?

My guess is that the meeting happened, some grievances were aired, and then as the story got passed on from person to person it changed. Deliberately or inadvertently, someone heard “Petracca was upset about certain things in his meeting” and turned it into “Petracca is going to request a trade”.

You're probably right but you speak like as if a player's management speaking with a club midseason about said player's role within the team is common. Which it probably is for players uncertain about their future.

Murmurs of Trac requesting a trade may well be BS but I think it's reasonable to assume that:

1. there was an element of unhappiness there, and;

2. that a trade was suggested, likely by Trac's crew, as a means to an end.

It being a reasonable outcome from the meeting doesn't mean unequivocally that it happened, or feed into rumours that he requested a trade. But let's not pretend like as if there wasn't some angst there.

That's what I was saying. The media has only ever reported it as a discussion about his playing future and that they nutted out what he's grievances were and have moved on. Yet people around here are saying they've heard that he's requested a trade without any substance. It seems like it's been inevitably changed by those who want to set a narrative of players abandoning the club, yet I don't see those types of discussions anywhere else.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
