Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The 2019 season post mortem thread

Recommended Posts

And just like that, our season is now over .

I think now that it’s finally come to an end I can now feel the gravity of my disappointment , and am left now with quite an empty and hollow feeling to be honest.

After the loss to the saints in Rd 5 I had written off the possibility of contending  this season, and simply road the bumps of the season not often overly disappointed nor surprised, and far less emotionally invested in wins and losses than in recent years , just simply putting it down to a string of disaster injuries , lack of fitness and drop off in form and confidence,  and that this year was simply a write off and that’s it’s now all about 2020.

There have been very few positives , and plethora of negatives as well as speculation to what has gone wrong internally with the coaching group and playing group,  which has all been well documented and debated on dland.

I’ve wanted this season to be over for ages, so the club could finally put a line through 2019 and move forward,  hopefully set things right , fix the leadership group , fix the coaching panel , hit the draft and hit the training track with a full preseason , with a favourable draw , and maybe, just maybe,  there is something to look forward to in 2020.

However, at the moment we’ve just reached the finish line and all I can do now is look back and wish it hadn’t turned out like it did ... we were supposed to be contenders.

Another year , and still waiting for my football dream to one day come true.

Move forward

an assumption

??

The term "Bounce back" is more apt. The implication being the club will think the force of the fall automatically propels us back upwards and the happy clappers will think we just need to have no preseason surgeries and right she goes. [Insert Jack Viney (Our leader) talk about many learnings, but have no clue what's gone wrong here]

Blah , blah forken blah.
Seriously, how often do we gotta hear the same sheet.
Game after game, year after year.
This Club learns nothing.

I knew we would start the season slow due to the preseason but fully expected us to become a dominant team on way to a Grand Final berth at the very latest by midway through the year.

I actually wrote our season off after our first win against Sydney. They were awful and somehow we were marginally less awful. I knew we were doomed for the year.

I've been indifferent about the season and surprisingly non caring about how bad we've been up until last week against Sydney when I was ropable. The attitude of our footy department with team selection , the pizzweak lazy and selfish efforts on the field , the seemingly dumbfounded look on Goodwin's face who looked like he was out of his depth, pushed me over the edge.

Yesterday my heart rate did not change one little bit for the whole match apart from that last 30 second forward foray when my heart yearned for a useless draw.

How sad and pathetic am I..... On par with this footy club.

Jones is a club stalwart but also a perennial loser. Like Viney, they speak in corporate jingo and PR speak, and in cliches. It's exhausting.

"We take full responsibility."

Obviously you do? Who else takes responsibility if you don't? The supprters? lol so condescending.

If 2019 told us anything it's that our leadership is weak.

I hope he took full responsibility for that horrible kick in the last 2 minutes. On replay it was even worse as Gawn was in the right position a long the boundary calling for it.

Good riddance miserable 2019.

Whilst difficult to put aside the pessimism, perhaps there are a few reasons to be hopeful for next year?

  1. Fritsch's late season form up forward suggests we can get back to a formidable forward half mix next year
  2. If the rumours are true, Ed Langdon will definitely add some class and dash
  3. Pick 2 should find us an A grade talent, one that can make an impact quickly
  4. It's unlikely we could be cruelled by injury in the same fashion, already in a better place compared to last year with few pre season surgeries required
  5. On paper, the backline looks strong (Hibberd, Jetta, May, Frost, Hore, Lever), albeit with little pace and a question mark on depth
  6. Tom McDonald will be better (PLEASE!) as will Sam Weideman
  7. Several small forwards seem gettable in the post season, perhaps none are perfect but we should land someone that can fill a need somewhat adequately

Jones also missed the tackle on Higgins when he kicked the winner with a limp one arm effort.

Not a fan of how Jones plays. He just bombs it or tries to hang on 2 it till he gets caught or he's missed the opportunity 2 give it off thus putting the next guy under unnecessary pressure. He is and has been overrated.

Unfortunately our leadership has been poor since David Neitz retired.

I have seen years like this too many times. 1977 comes to mind. Look at the last couiple of minutes in yesterdays game and you will find the answer. Snatching defeat from victory where there was a faint wiff of a " good effort " but that ios all it was. A wiff.

The other positive is we should have the biggest salary cap space besides Gold Coast. Anyone out of contract can take a big hair cut.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
