Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I was at the ground today.

There was something fundamentaly wrong with Nathan Jones. His body language reeked. He offered no leadership and no one looked to him for it.

My mother watches about 1/2 a game every three weeks and it was her second live AFL game ever. She said it was either 1) his last game for the club or 2) he had just been told that he would not be captain effective immediately.

The last time (and first ever) she came to a game she said Jack Watts was playing with no confidence and would be traded at year's end. He was.

Last week was tbe same BAMF. Might be to do wirh his contract discussions?

Whatever The reason we needed something else from him.

No.   I get as frustrated as anyone, can't even bear to watch it but I don't spend the week writing posts critical of the players, the coaches, the medical and fitness team, the administration and all the other blameworthy members of the organization called The Melbourne Football Club.

A word to the wise. Footy is and always has been about loving your Club as everyone here does, letting off steam and feeling part of the whole thing. Its tradition venue outside of gamedays was around work tables and sitting on stools in public bars. If you sat for any time you would hear massive boasting of how good so and so was, canning of other, ridiculous assertions, humorous stories and ridiculous predictions. many groups had alternate selection committees and Carlton were and are famous for their alternate selection committee that are at every thursday training and pick their own team. Even in their premiership years there was much angst against who and why someone was selected. Thats why we love it. In the end all the criticisms is just supporters trying to piece together there own little perfect  player list, coach and adm support. Go and find a country pub, go in the public bar and you  soon see what I am saying is as true in local footy as it is in the AFL.

Nice reply. I agree with your sentiments. Witnessed a great example of this at Nicks Wine Merchants on Friday, A staff member was talking to a customer about the last EFL game they'd both attended, players names were mentioned, one of them had kicked 29 goals this year. LOvely stuff....

Numbers at the contest is the mantra.

Yes, numbers at the contest; free-up the outside spaces for the opposition to clear.

The number of times this season that we have seen this occur - with up to four Demon players on top of the player - who had the ball and tapped the ball out to space -  all leaving their direct opponents.

Worse still, Key Position Demons running into this melee to assist a static moment.

Then Viney and Jones: grab the ball, stick it into your stomach, fall over onto the ball, wiggle your legs until there is a ball-up from the umpire. Two players out of the game for critical seconds. Sheet!

No point going to the B&F this year, send Bluey in the post to Max and save on what will be another financial loss for the club.

He should do well in the Brownlow as well this year, nobody to pinch his votes.

In a complete sign of [censored] retentiveness I attempted to record negative statistics of yesterday's game.

Handball Errors ( Not finding team mate in a reasonable position :  35 ( 1 goal scored against for this) Mainly short handballs in confined spaces, rather than using handball to move the ball which we diid a few times )

Kicks to advantage of Opp Players : 37 ( 2 goals scored against us from that)

Dropped Uncontested mark : 1

Missed tackles : 4 (all in first half) (1 goal scored against us from that)

General [censored] actions (undescribable) : 10 ( 3 goals against)  these were just things that reflected a complete brain fads.

Doesn't prove much except we make mistakes mainly with our disposal and in modern football possession is everything and should not be surrendered 72 times in a game.

Hire a shrink, in the last five games we've led at three quarter time we've then kicked 5.23 in the last quarter and lost four times.

Not sure your maths is right...

At 3/4 time

rd 9 WCE +12pts kicked 1.3 to 6.1 lost by 16

Rd 11 Adel +16 kicked 1.8 to 5.2 lost by 2pts

Rd 18 WCE +6 kicked 1.2 to 4.3 lost by 13

Rd 23 NM +5 kicked 1.7 to 3.1 lost by 5

So 4 games leading at 3/4 time and kicked 4.20 to lose all 4. Our opponents kicked 18.7

Appalling

One positive was that great mark Fritta took and then proceed to kick the goal.

The mark was Shaun Smith like.

He and Max were our best out there by far.

JUst saw replay (got sick of Richmond scoring goals)

There has been a lot of criticism of Nathan J  kick with 1.40 to go, but the big blue was Melsham flying against Frost who was going up with North bloke . Spoilt the marking attempt and then proceeded to procrastinate on the wrong side of the pack which allowed Higgins a paddock to goal.

Then when ANB was doing his final run Melsham kept running in the way without moving away from his man and giving a genuine option. Then had the temerity to have a word to ANB . Two instances of me-first footy.

i was more disappointed with the missed tackle. How the hell do u have an opponents arm and allow him to handball to Higgin to advantage who scored that goal.

Just a poor minute of footy which summed up our year

Gotta feel sorry for Max

Puts in every week best on ground again pure leadership personified.

He looks completely bemused by some of the antics displayed by his team mates out there.

I really don't know how he keeps playing with this mob. If only the whole team had his fierceness, desire and work rate  we would never lose another game.

It was a fantastic individual performance by Max and he should be AA this year. Fantastic game Max, made watching it worthwhile.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
