Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He didn't work as a head coach, sure. He had an average list with injury prone key players for most of his tenure. But he's a good pickup as an assistant coach. Puts a huge emphasis on fitness (a glaring issue at the club) and seemed to have our number fairly often, out strategizing us at times knowing we don't have the outside run that his team did. He exposed us and I for one am looking forward to him working out where we are beaten as a club and sealing those cracks.

you justify the point by saying he picked apart our game and out coached Goodwin....we are no good so beating us isn't a good reference

They knocked us off at the G last year when we were good. They well and truly picked us apart that day and 4 late goals flattered us.

I’d honestly be happy with Bruce up forward. Would probably cost too much though.

is there an issue with him getting on the park ?  am just curious....otherwise it might not be as expensive as "too much"

So you would take Todd Viney over Jarrod Roughead for list management. One , young, keen, recently out of the game great character who has overcome adversity, four time premiership winner against, as some here said, a fence leaner. Says it all.

You forgot to look at page 2 of his resume where it says he has zero experience in coaching, list management and football administration.

I don't want to come across insensitive here, but I think Green now has his hands full looking after his young boys.
I wouldn't expect him to be seeking an assistant coach role anytime too soon.

I understand your perspective on this however after seeing Green take part in the EJ Whitten it should be revisited. Green should be sought out for a role as little as two days a week for a couple of hours a day to help the players with their kicking. When Green played he was such an accurate shot on goal from multiple angles. A great player I really enjoyed watching play.

Its interesting watching the Australian cricket team get and the players get so much out of having a couple past greats back in the dressing room like Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting.

I wonder if the club could benefit from something similar. How good would it be to have Neitz and Green or The Wiz just in and around teh group for a couple days, just to install a bit of fun, a bit of comrade and just to lett he players know that the club is united and all behind them, they have another avenue to go to have a chat, Neitz and Green on the training track, just helping out encouraging, just ambassadorial roles.. i think for one it would be amazing and it would straight away create a bit of "all in" culture. This is where i think Goodwin has to be less stubborn and open himself up a bit, let others in, exactly what Hardwick and Buckley did.. and look whats happened.

Yeah, its unlikely that he will do that so there is an element of fantasy about it but its 100% real in the fact that its what he has to do.

The difference is every Australian cricketer idolised Waugh and Ponting. They all grew up barracking for Australia and wanting to play for Australia.

The reality is most of our current playing list don’t hold Neitz, Green and Wiz in the same esteem as we do on demoland.

Fair call, i guess its just that i see other clubs that welcome the history, embrace the heritage and acknowledge the past players and it seems like we dont? was just a suggestion anyway to try and instill some pride and love to the club, because ta the moment, unbelievably 12 months after we played in a prelim, the club feels like its a cold and miserable environment again.

I agree with you and think the history and heritage of the MFC is important.

You will get posters on here who hate bringing back any past players because they think it is part of some “old boys club”. For the most part they are miserable  posters and don’t understand the importance of networking.

It would be far easier if we have had some success to build respect for past players coming back to the club and then having a positive influence in the rooms.

I’m hoping Ooze could be the one. Without the ultimate onfield success at Melbourne, he is a fan favourite, one of our best players in 30 years and has achieved success strategically under the best coach since Norm Smith.

I agree wrecker with everything you say. its time to stop the criticism of the past players and the boys club mentality, im pretty sure they love the club like we do. the Dogs do it so well, the Tigers, the Hawks.. we need to find the love for the club again, for what it stands for, for what it was and what we want it to become.

We dont have to forget the past,  we just need to acknowledge it and we need to move on.

There is possibly a subtle difference between a "boys club" approach and a club welcoming old boys. A possible ingredient that causes reticence among some with respect to embracing, indeed exploiting the abilities of past players etc is that there has been indeed times when there were ( possibly are ) insular groups within clubs that work and operate to their own agenda which may not be entirely congruent with that of the club. This and of itself should not preclude the seeking to bring knowledgeable and capable past players into the fold but should offer at least a caution that we need the club to be the prime focus.

They all have one aim. Past players, administrators and board members want MELBOURNE to achieve the ultimate success. They all might have different ideas on how to get there but guaranteed when we do they will all be drinking out of the same Cup.

You people have no vision. plodders and bootlickers united in defence of Club decisions. meanwhile we await the announcement of what Richardson new job is to be.

Maybe the full scope of Alan Richardson's role and his associated title is not settled just yet with the other staff changes still happening e.g. Jade Rawlings and now as mooted Todd Viney exits?

But no - it's been more than 10 days now and you're overdue for a tantrum.

Maccas role included a component of list management, he was one of the ones directly involved there, i wonder if with his exit Richo steps straight into that role and looks at the list, or if we have someone else in mind from within to step up, i would say we'll have 2-3 other assistants to come in replacing Jennings and Rawlings so far so it'll be interesting to see where it all ends up.

Richo to me strikes me as someone who learned what it takes to be a successful coach when it was all too late for him at St Kilda so i suspect that experience will be huge for Goodwin, and hopefully preventing a similar sort of end to his coaching career.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
