Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Suns will imo get a pick at end of first round.

I suspect we're pleading our case to NOT have GC get picks 1 and 2.

I would think the case to not give GC pick 2 will come from all clubs as all will be disadvantaged.

We are there to 'outline financial and business plans'.  Sounds like we are asking for money again.  So much for the mfc that was financially solid and stable just 12 months ago.  Sad.

Already lots of talk the GC have been approved for PP pick 2. Classic MFC luck.

Reading between the lines a bit, it sounds like maybe we're asking for financial assistance rather than draft picks.

"It is unclear exactly what the Demons will ask for however their crowd numbers have fallen dramatically during their dismal 2019 season, which will hurt their bottom line."

Gold Coast, Melbourne reportedly to present to AFL Commission next Tuesday for help

The last line in the article confirms it. It also shows that AFL media is just as sensationalistic as the mainstream media it feeds. The article implies that the Suns and Melbourne are meeting with the Commission because of their positions on the ladder. That's not the case.

I hope we'll be explaining that 2019 was an abberation and that we expect to be back in finals contention next year. We need the AFL Commission to believe that if we're to be given good timeslots, lots of free to air TV games and a draw which will attract spectators to the MCG.

All clubs meet with the commission, so it's not unusual, but gets readers sucked in when it can be isolated to the clubs that have struggled. I assume we'll be asking about some help with the training ground and facilities, or at least be providing an update as to how that is all going.

I wonder if this means that Jaguar have decided to not sponsor us again; it was a one year deal.  Hence our need for more AFL funding.

Interesting to note that Gil said in an Age podcast that St Kilda is being financially supported to the same level as the two franchise clubs. Coincidence?  Doubt it.

If it’s financial, then that’s woeful!  Didn’t they sell off the gaming? They should be flush with money.  Jackson must be chocking on his cornflakes.

membership will take a hit until members see tangible change at the start of 2020.  Cannot keep forking out dollars when the players on this list are mediocre with their comfort zone.

I don't read it that way at all LH.

More so that the AFL are wondering why we've dropped away so quickly this season

Maybe there's some issues that we're not privy to and it looks to me that we've been summoned rather than asking for handouts.

Can't be sure though but I'll be surprised if we don't post another profit this season (that would make it 10 profitable years from the last 11)

Would think we're at least planning for worst case scenario with sponsors leaving, less members, lower crowds and a horrible draw from a commercial perspective.

I think the article says that clubs that get AFL assistance, present to the Commission on a 'rotating basis'.  It may just have been our turn or we may have been 'summoned' as you say because our year has been so bad.

I agree we will probably post a profit this year.  But I suspect the financial projections for 2020 don't look too good, especially if Jaguar don't sign up again. Loss of Bentleigh club pokie revenue (I think it is 2020), membership drop off, smaller crowds, and the sponsor impact of downgraded fixture and FTA time slots.

So we may be asking for help on various fronts to ward off a nasty financial result in 2020.

Edit: @Lord Nev just saw your post about 2020 revenues.  Fully agree.

It's just the general meeting that clubs getting handouts from the AFL have to attend. Nothing dramatic except the fact that we were already a charity case before this year. Probably come out of it as the Gold Coast Demons.

I suspect that we are being questioned about our on field year and what steps the club will be taking to right the ship

The rest of what you say may well be true but I'm not sure that is what the meeting is about. Although it could be.

The last time we posted a loss was in 2013. On the back of a 2nd consecutive disastrous season and after the tanking fiasco.  For the record we received a one-off  $1.4Million grant that year but were fined $500k for being found not guilty re tanking.  Hefty fine for no guilt.

With Roos & Jackson at the helm we immediately started posting profits again.  As far as I can make out there haven't been any more handouts (despite what the masses want to believe)

bentleigh Club will collapse soon after the pokies come out. Wonder if that is our plan. To then sell off the land for residential housing. Not sure we could be that clever though.

They can't of been approved yet 'Nev'...

In the end it's a commission decision and they don't meet until after the season.

They haven't always gone along and rubber stamped Gill's wishes either.

Not saying they won't get it, just that it hasn't been approved.

Might not have been rubber stamped yet, but you can lock it in.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
