Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Lyon speaks really well. And he's got a good footy brain, I think.

I"d have him in a heartbeat... but that might not be a popular view!

“Lyon speaks really well.”

Are you serious.

I would rank him on the dreadfully boring scale right  alongside Bernie Fraser and Alan Fells .... no doubt know a bit of their own stuff  but dreary and uninspiring as they come.

Forget the nipple, cards.   Jugular sounds far quicker and less painful.

That's not what was said. But sure, let's ignore what people with inside knowledge of the club say, that worked out really well when Shaun Smith complained about Misson who then ended up being practically demoted a short time later.

Much more reputable info to be had from anonymous posters on Demonland...

I suspect Ross Lyon is a very polarising figure. Clearly some players love him (think Zac Dawson, but also, if I recall correctly,  Nick Reiwoldt) but it seems to me that his demands might wear his players down. I also think he's been a poor judge of football character and has been involved in bringing to both his clubs players with flaws (psychological as well as known physical risks) that have ultimately wasted opportunities (Andrew Lovett, Colin Sylvia, Harley Bennell, maybe Jesse Hogan and possibly others). With limited list numbers each flawed selection is costly. We've seen it ourselves. In short, I suspect Lyon has been his own worst enemy by putting the powers-that-be at Fremantle off-side.

I still don't belive that Misson was demoted and I still haven't seen anything other than uninformed groupthink on Demonland that has proven that Joel Smith's injury (OP) was related in any way to being put back on the ground during that practce match.

I'm not making comment on the injury, I'm not a doctor nor have I seen Joel's medical records. I wouldn't have a clue tbh.

As far as Misson goes, here's some sources on him being effectively put aside:

"With elite performance manager David Misson to move to Canada with his family at season's end, the Demons have appointed Dr Zeeshan Arain as head of medical services for the rest of the season, while Phil Merriman will lead the strength and conditioning department. Misson will oversee the transition until his departure."

Dees' coach shake-up, chase for ex-Arsenal performance guru begins

“We looked at the whole department and said, ‘How can we set up a better structure, how can we set up better programs and processes?’, and that probably took three or four weeks of internal interviews with staff, players and coaches.

“We’ve got a structure we’ll put as an interim structure for the remainder of the year and we think it’s an opportunity to look for improvements, but also setting us up for next year when Misso isn’t here.

“Misso will now oversee the implementation of this structure and complete a variety of specific initiatives for the rest of this year.”

Melbourne seeks opportunities to improve

"The high performance manager role is about people management now so we will have a good look at how the structure plays out, the positives and negatives," Mahoney said.

Thanks, although I note that nothing provided shows that Misson was "practically demoted". Changes were made, improvements have been sought, but it does not appear to be correct to say, from the information available, that Misson was in any way "demoted".

Sure, you can interpret it how you wish, just as I have. Clearly the club isn't going to come out and say he was underperforming so they demoted him.

It's very rare, if ever, a club will actually every come out and in plain English tell you the reality of anything. It amuses me anyone actually waits for them to do so. There's "footy speak" for a reason. Politicians and Football Clubs seem to have the same elocution.

And to be clear, I'm not bagging out the bloke like we've both seen everywhere. He's clearly an experienced qualified professional, but my interpretation of the situation was the club felt they needed to change things.

You may have a point with the monotonic delivery, but Lyon’s content is second to none.  Goody is young but gives us rhetoric.  Lyon can’t be questioned even going back to the transcript.

In terms of content, Lyon speaks footy very very well.

You have got to be joking.

I’ve seen plenty of rubbish recently, but this is next level. You’re completely re-writing events of a few months ago! Misson has been leaving of his own accord for some time.

Let's agree to play nice hey?

I wasn't talking about Misson leaving at the end of this year, I was talking about the fitness department reshuffle that happened simultaneously to the coaching reshuffle. You're welcome to view it differently, but the way I interpreted Mahoney's comments was that they were moving Misson to a more external role and moving other staff more into the player management roles.

I have nothing against Misson, as I've stated previously, he's well regarded in the footy industry, but clearly whenever a football club is changing your role midseason things aren't going well (just ask Brendan McCartney). Perhaps it was just a matter of trying something different given our run of injuries this year.

Mate, it’s not even a coherent argument from you. You’ve sarcastically implied we ignored Shaun Smith’s complaints, and then within the same sentence implied that Misson has left the club as a result of what led to those (erroneous) complaints (although we apparently ignored them).

Wake up.

No, I did not imply Misson left the club as a result of that. I pointed out his role was changed midseason, which is clearly not a good sign.

I've already explained this to you multiple times so clearly you're more interested in just having arguments on the internet with people you've got a problem with for some reason.

I've tried to straighten things up and converse with you like a grown up but it seems you're incapable of that, so I'm moving on from this roundabout. Cheers.

Ok, you’re implying his role changed as a result of Smith’s complaints or because he was not competent, which is again, just plain wrong. It’s amateurish and it’s embarrassing.

Ok, one last time... That is not what I implied. I have never said Misson's role was changed due to comments by a player parent.

I've said his role was changed, which is an indicator of performance on the back of our injury management this year.

I've said a player's parent complained about injury management, which is somewhat of an indicator of performance, but wouldn't be what the club bases their decision on.

I'm not sure if you've just misinterpreted what I wrote or you're deliberately trying to keep this going now.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
