Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Obviously a 'wish list' on the 3 forwards suggestion JD.  Can't see any of them, other than maybe Rooey, on big multiples of current media $, coming down for a short stint.

We could do alot worse than surround ourselves with a 'Hawthorn' biased crew of assistants and line coaches IMV JD.  I would be ecstatic to see a combo of Lewey, Roughy and Hodge join us.

What an amazing get Hodgey would be,  not just for his experience, footy knowledge and a succession option (whether Goody makes it or not) but also the drawing power those three would have getting potential top line recruits over the line in the super competitive trade circus.

Good one Rusty seeing as none of our old players at Hawks have seemingly expressed interest in their old club's plight......

What a great move that would be, either on field or off field.

Could he take CP5 aside and show him how to kick too?

Roughy is champ - no doubt about

He’s also been through some tough personal [censored]. So apart from knowing a bit about footy he also knows a bit about resilience

Bonus.  He seems to be a decent bloke

Yep.  I’d have him as a forward line coach in a flash!

Huge yes from me. One of my favourite ever players from opposition clubs. Because of all the Buddy, Lewis, Hodge, Mitchell conversations, Roughy's actual supreme football ability gets underscored.

My question would be - can he communicate what he knows? Can he influence Petracca, Weideman, Hannan etc... in forward craft?

Great players don't always perform in roles where character and communication are required, but if there is even a sniff of potential with Roughy, go get him.

Sorry if the second of my paragraphs following is a subject of other threads.

I like the idea of us getting in that 'recent playing/leading Hawksness' (and Yze) as much as anyone, particularly given the characters and cache of those mentioned. And I read Jordan's comments about us (including Goodwin) as sufficiently positive that he at least wouldn't warn the others off. Their interest might also depend on who we get to replace McCartney and whether they can see learnings value there.

BUT, I think fixing our issues should be the driver of who we get to help address them. The guys in this thread MAY be suitable (thoughts?), but their might be someone BETTER (thoughts?) Our eyes alone tell us the big issues - by themselves but also as far as the 'craft' that Roughhead, Lewis and Hodge have - seem to be 1. delivering the ball into F50, both to a player and to a player in a good place, and 2. grabbing it and using it when it gets there (along with 3. having a 2nd and 3rd string forward line for much of the year - but they can't help with that! - and 4. turnovers - who CAN help???) Supporting our eyes - and it's just a simple selection - we rank 5th for I50s, but 11 and 12 teams respectively are ahead of us for R50s and R50s against total points scored, and we rank 1st for ratio of behinds to goals.

I realise R50 stats vs US in individual games, rather than teams' year averages, are more relevant (ALL 17 other teams were ahead of us last year in R50s against total points scored, but that reflected (partly) us not letting it GET to the D50 in the first place?) However, that depth of analysis is beyond me! Hence my "the eyes have it", with simple (simplistic?) stats to support it...

Very true as they may have never needed to struggle to become a great player.

But that vision of him coaching the oppo backman in that VFL stands out for me.

Bugger, Roughy would have been a great help to us.

He might have a monumental task at Moorabbin managing the list though, they are linked to so many players this off-season they could field 2 AFL teams next year.

I get the desire to bring in good people from successful place but what experience does Roughead have in list management?

I wouldn't be too upset about this one. If I were in charge I'd be spending the list management budget on some smart analytics people to get ahead of the curve as well as experienced recruiters. Mesh the old school with some new school.

Doesn't mean he's going to run the show. Would likely be an assistant for a couple of years until they get panicky, sack the incumbent and promote him even if he has no idea.

Couple of years working for Maloney and Viney, nope, you would finish up selling used cars on Sundays, it’s everyone else’s fault, especially that old Macca guy, singlehandedly drove our great club into the ground.

Glad these successful people got to the bottom of it.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
