Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Pretty sure that won't pay the costs of running this site GYM

Sorry Macca but that is not entirely historically accurate.

It's accurate in the context I was making it in.

If you want to be all A.R about it you're wasting your time with me.

They weren't quitters on the field and gave 100% to the club in their time at the club.  Barassi left for a coaching opportunity elsewhere (rightfully) and Smith was sacked,  later reinstated and then left when his time was up.

Meanwhile,  we've got so-called supporters wanting to jump ship because it's all got too hard for them.  There's no comparison really as the quitters don't deserve to be in the same conversation as the greats of the club.

I'd be happy to see the end of them to be perfectly honest.  The same types continually moan about all and sundry and offer absolutely nothing.

I wasn't comparing them to anyone on this site or anyone else Macca.  Just flagging the accuracy of the intial statement you made.

Given that you have re-framed the context after your initial post then my response is also likely to be different to that originally made or i might not have posted at all.

Cheers

And I shouldn't have to provide context or even explain.   The words should largely be self-evident if one takes a close-enough-it's-good-enough approach.

But hey,  this is a demon fan site where there are a lot of angry & frustrated people.  I just don't get the excessive moaning.  It's not like any of us can change anything.

Talk of losing 10,000 members is just ridiculous.  My projections sees the club improving to a point where we can win 10-12 games and if that happens there won't be much of a drop-off in membership at all.

Friday night was awful but we've been in a lot of winnable situations this season.  Probably about 7 or 8.  But without a forward line we kept getting run over.  Add in a forward line and we win a total of 10 games or more.  As previously stated,  the FD overestimated the worth of our forwards.

So,  we need to add in a forward line.  It's do-able too with some creative recruiting.  Plus,  we'll be at least adding in a top prospect top-end draft pick (midfielder type)  And a healthier & fitter list.  And free agency could bring in an experienced player or 2.  We're still a bit on the young side.

Write this year off and look ahead.

Like many before it, the season was written off many moons ago i'm afraid Macca.  The old saying "there's always next year" has been a mantra of MFC members/supporters for well over half a century.  It's something i'm very familiar with but thanks for the reminder!

Done!

Fortunately I couldn’t make Friday night, sounded putrid.

But after 50 plus years supporting them , I just have to stick fat with them, as maddening as 2019 has been!!

Just think of the joy if we win one flag after 55/60 years of waiting and waiting!

Well yeah,  but sometimes that phrase (there's always next year) is said without any real enthusiasm or hope.

But most would agree that if we can get our best players fit and firing with a few good add-ons we can genuinely improve.  The coaching will get a big shake up and the FD will be on notice

Oliver,  Viney,  Gawn,  Brayshaw,  May,  Lever,  Hibberd,  Harmes,  Petracca,  Melksham & Salem form the basis of go-ahead solid outfit.  Add in the no.2 pick (midfielder) the acquisition of a key forward and some pacy outside run (with skills) and 10 wins as a minimum is quite achievable.  Friday night is a distant memory for me.

Ideally we'd acquire another goal kicking forward and a pacy backman but we probably need another off-season for all the parts of the puzzle to fall into place.

Frost,  Hore,  Hunt,  Fritsch can all play if used properly and Jetta & T-Mac might find their best form again.  Who knows with Weideman?  Jonesy has a place as we really do lack enough experience

And the players need to work overtime on their skills in the off-season. That is an absolute must.  Kicking to position in the dark if needs be.  Worked a treat back in my day

I've actually been in next-year-mode for quite some time and the club probably has been too.  Lofty expectations has a huge downside.  It's fair to say we've dropped our bundle but ...

There's always next year Rusty!

Question: Do you buy a membership next year ?

Allegory: Do you keep hitting you head against a brick wall ?

Funny some folk are just sick of the headaches...others seek more panadol or other medicinal remedy.

I don't see anyone suggesting they will NOT follow Melbourne. It's up to an individual to choose their life's pleasures.

Of course.

I'll bet my bottom dollar anyone saying they won't will still come on here week to week to talk footy next year.

The trick is to not base your entire life and happiness around a footy team! Everyone is disappointed, but if you are actually at the point where you feel you cant mentally go on supporting a footy team who's having a bad year, then yeah it's probably for the best - see ya later!

If you don't renew your membership then that's up to you, but it doesn't help the club. I am as angry and disheartened as anyone with this Football club, I'm a at the point where they embarrass me and make me a bit ashamed to say i am a Demon fan.

But, i will be back, i will switch off over the summer and i will bounce back and hope they can make me proud again, because as bad as this year feels, last year was was magnificent, and i want to experience that again, and when it happens i want to be able to say i never jumped off, i stuck with them and it make sit even better.

As an MCC member, I think I'll wait until the first 4-5 Rounds of 2020 before I commit to the MFC membership add on. Not only has the club been a massive disappointment on field this year, but considering how much money its loyal supporter base of 52,000 fans have donated to their coffers in 2019, the clubs off-field direction has been as big of a failure.

From the CEO appointment of Gary Pert who has been unsighted this year, down to the marketing direction of the club, who have played it safe with their boring, uninspiring creative collateral. For instance, why did the club kill the 'Raise Hell' slogan and re-introduce 'My Heart Beats True' ?

The club needs to start investing our hard earned donations on tangible assets that can really sell the club to existing and NEW supporters.

There's no doubt they will pay a price next year as they were clearly hoping the clubs on field success would speak for itself. The club really does have a habit of shooting itself in the foot.

I'm a MCC member too, at a minimum i'll get the basic Dual add on but still see myself getting the premium add on.

Also Raise Hell was a great slogan, unfortunately we've raised nothing this year.

A MFC membership should always be viewed as a charitable donation.

It is like contributing to a wild life fund the only thing you expect is the joy of knowing you make an effort to help.

Think of your MFC membership in the same fashion.

Dont expect more than saving them from extinction and the pain goes away.

You just gotta laugh sometimes.

The concept of a “clique” consisting of Mahoney, Goodwin & Viney is absurd - imagine criticising a footy dept for maintaining a close relationship and supporting one another!

Secondly, name another president that doesn’t have a healthy ego.

And finally, the exact opposite is largely the case. Previously past greats of the club have felt disconnected, and while it’s far from perfect, bridges are someway down the path to being mended.

Exactly right.

Ask Rod Grinter, Jeff Farmer or Russell Robertson if they feel disconnected.

And to suggest Glen Bartlett has the biggest ego of the AFL presidents is absolute nonsense when you think about the field.

Of course I’ll renew - will buy the 5 premium memberships that I do every year. I’m even thinking about joining coterie.

It’s odd, but I wouldn’t enjoy the good times anywhere near as much without knowing I’d suffered through the bad times.

I’m a firm believer in the concept that the Club owes you nothing. You make a choice to support it or not. But if you love it, it’s not really ever a conscious choice.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
