Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Where is the Frost apology?

There's always a whipping boy on a sporting team, social media amplifies this. There seem to be quite a lot of 'targets' this season (Frost, Omac, ANB, Stretch, Preuss, JKH, Wagners, Lewis, Spargo, Weideman, garlett etc ). Is this more of an indictment on our list or our expectations? Or is it just an online pile-on due to frustrations at our season

How is that possible?

Surely if he gives his maximum or best effort that becomes 100%

A glass full of water is 100% full, adding more (impossible) does not make it over 100% full, if you can get more in the glass then it was not 100% full.

Edit: And don't talk to me about overclocking, which is merely under specifying for reliability.

Most of our list give 90%.

Frost gives 20% more than most our list.  Some call it 110%.  I call it 108%.

If giving more than 100% is impossible, our list is probably going just above 83%, if Frosty is giving 20% more.  You do the maths.

Ironic that may has never had hammy issues and cones us and started having them.

Ironic because we have had a crazy number if injuries this year but hardly any have been soft tissue injuries.

Another example of how cruel the Norm Smith curse can be.

May has returned to the field on each occasion after incurring a soft-tissue issue.

When the most basic fundamental is ignored then you deserve the ramifications.

What?

Any number of posters have been calling for fritter to play forward

Also any number of posters understand him playing back out of necessity. (staff shortages).

Though equally, I'd argue that playing back for a while has made him a more rounded footballer. He played matches up forward last year, but with nothing like the impact he's now having.

Only the intelligent and unemotional could see Frost's value.  Even Goodwin had him languishing at Casey at the start of 2018; and Roos, and only a few others on here could not understand why.

Not only is this hindsight Harry at his finest, it ignores the simple fact that Frost's greatest weakness hasn't been the brain-fades and lack of football awareness that still cost us a goal or three each week, but his lack of a tank. He wasn't being played because opposition forwards would just run him round for a half, and then run freely off him for the rest of the game because he was too knackered to chase.

Which is also why you don't see him playing further up the ground, where in many respects, his strengths would be more useful and his deficiencies less of a handicap.

Perhaps another pre-season will help in that regard, but at his age, don't think anyone's going to be holding their breath. He is what he is.

Maths is done,  maximum output is 100% by definition. Sorry no 108%

You have accused other posters of confirmation bias before bing....... welcome to the club.

*raises glass.

P.S. Fritter could well be a gun forward with decent delivery. I love the kid.

Amen, someone paying attention. His speed and strength come at a cost and that is a poor tank, it's part of why he struggles to start the year each year. And largely why he's a full back/back pocket rather than an intercepting machine at half back - apart from the whole lack of game sense.

He gives 110%, which is great. and his core skill of being able to bolt out of the backline to clear it along with being a pretty good 1-on-1 defender adds to it.

But those massive gallops often result in turnovers and once that happens and he's past the centre circle, the ball sails back and we're out-manned.

Lever and May are much smarter players. They intercept, set up plays and generally hit targets. Much like Salem. Frost is better because of them, not in spite of them

When ex-players like Roo-boy  say Frost is better that just demonstrates that they don't watch enough of our games.  Unfortunately that is nothing new, most commentators don't. With regards to our team I would wager all a lot do is look at a few stats their ghost-writers and support people give them and draw what they think is a well-informed opinion. It's no surprise that they will say Frost is the best player, to me that just highlights this process.

Putting it out there, we are the best team to have ever finished 17th. We stopped going for finals before the bye, that seemed obvious to me, the rest of the year has been Goodwin putting on some diplomacy after a loss on camera all the while we're setting up for a full-on assault next year. The cleanouts in the coaching department and new appointments are all part of this.

Keep the faith, next year will be good

He is Bloody good now!!

Play him of the Wing or maybeeeeee give him a run through the midfield!! Sheeit Id like to see that!!???

Go to Bigfooty then. I frequent Bomber Blitz and other football forums, when it comes to analysis and rational discussion, Demonland is actually on the reasonable side. Your description is more suitable for the Melbourne Facebook groups. I've had to leave most of them because during matches it's a combination of "Drop Petracca" or "Drop Omac" or "Sack Goodwin" with no rational or reasonable insight.

We're very lucky to have Demonland.

Been doing it for years. Pots this website at every opportunity. @Matsuo Basho gets an extended holiday for baiting around here and this bloke has about 20 get out jail free cards for doing the exact same thing, even worse.

Absolute joke.

So Anthony Rocca struggled at the start of the year?

If our players had the endeavour as Frosty has we would be in a better place than we are at the moment. Absolutely!

Remember the chase that caught Petruccelle  the fleet footed WCE player that tried to take Frosty on,  Chased him down caught  him and from the back of the jumper and dragged him like a rag doll, literally.

Frosty is one of a few players that l feel comfortable about when he is picked to play.

That was a fantastic play

that immediately resulted in Frost kicking the ball out on the full...

I have loved frost's game this year. Great example of the folly of writing players off. I still think he has got some improvement in him too.

One area he has to improve is his turnovers. They undo so much of his good work. He has improved in this area though so further improvement is possible.

Two points on this.

One is that I think they need frost to eschew short kicks as much as possible. Give him the direction to, when he can, run and carry and kick as long as possible down the line. Similar to the role Hibberd has played in the past but is struggling to do now. Makes it predictable to his teammates and he is a thumping kick and so would get the ball close to the wing or our half forward line most times. If it does turnover we have time to set up our defence.

But I suspect this approach would reduce turnovers, in part because he would be more often kicking to a contest (rather trying to pick out a dees player and kicking it straight to an opposition player), some errant kicks would be spiked out of bounds and like many players with poor technique he kicks better when kicking through the ball.

The second point is that even if he improves he will always be a risk of turning the ball over. So it is critical that other back six players minimise their turnovers. Hore, fritter when back (surprisingly given he has good technique), lever and Hibberd all turn the ball over too much. Hopefully fritter plays forward next year and is replaced by jetts (who is very reliable) but the other three really need to work on their kicking. Im confident lever and horr will improve as they are both young and hard workers. I'm less confident about Hibberd.

OK and so it did however that doesn't exclude his determination or his efforts to chase an opposition down that saved a possible scoring chance IMO he always makes an effort and that to me is more than many of our players  don't have. That determination.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
