Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

from what i've seen in the draft Ben King is better than anyone outside of the top 2 if the GCS get a priority pick i think we should trade pick 2 for Ben King. if we could get 19 back in exchange for our 36 as well that would be a dream result.

it's basically Noah Anderson at pick 2

or King or HIll and Langdon for pick 3

Am I in fantasy land or does that actually seem like a reasonable deal for all involved, in the event that Ben King definitely wants out?

There are  a number of unknown factors in all this such as whether we have to use a first round pick this year -I think based on the rules we do - I guess this isn't an unknown for the club or the AFL, but I'm still unsure.  Then there is what if any priority pick GC get and finally whether we think we a) need King or b) He is worth giving up pick 2/3 for.

I think high on GC drafting strategy this year is to try to keep top end talent tied to the club by drafting Rowell and Anderson together.  I think GC may have known it would be hard to keep King when they drafted him, but if he wanted to go home they'd be able to break even - a better risk than drafting a lesser player.

If GC aren't given a pick at the pointy end then our hand is significantly strengthened if we are interested in getting King.  But what we are giving up is Anderson for King and we would still need another of GC later first round draft picks to come back - so expect a player/s (ANB/Stretch) or later/future picks to be involved.

Would be a remarkable scenario for gc to get 2nd draft pick as a priority and us trade our pick to them for king, giving them picks 1,2 and 3.

If they don't think they have a chance to keep king they would trade him to us and take 1,2 and 3 surely. If they could manage (and that's a huge if) that could set them up for a decade. Assuming of course they get their club in order.

I don't know if that is what we would do though. We need a kpd but we need skilled runners who are elite kicks and decision makers even more.

we get pick 2, we hold it; we get pick 3, it is heading somewhere else

i really hope we get back into the first round somehow

This is surely no chance of happening? if the Suns lose him after 1 year it would be a disaster for them, just the optics alone, a new low, that their big key Fwd is gone after 1 year..

What would we do with Weid? surely we cant carry King and Weid?

King would be a great coup for us but it 'aint happening.

GC want friendship and brother-ship.

So we trade T. Mac & O.Mac for their want-aways Ben King  & Jack Martin

Trade ANB & Billy Stretch for their early second round pick.

Is this how these fantasy-trading threads work?

ANB and Stretch would be worth pick 77

GWS went into the 2012 draft with 1,2 and 3 after trading in picks 2 and 3 from Melbourne and GCS in exchange for their mini-draft selections.

Shows what an unbelievable advantage they were given as a start-up compared the GCS initial concessions.  The two mini-drafts were more than excessive.

They bombed the picks though with Whitfield (tick), O'Rourke and Plowman.

The other thing is that it would appeal to the AFL i reckon, but given it would rely in the dees coming to the party might involve some shady deals.

No idea what they might be though.

Maybe something like the AFL, on the down low, tell GC that they only get pick two priority if they agree to give the dees King AND pick 7 (which i think they also have as result of previous deal?).  We get King and a top 10 pick to use on a player with kicking skills and outside run. Everybody's happy.

More like:  AFL decide to give GCS a priority pick, and ensure that King Goes to Hawthorn for 2 old chuppa chupps.

Given the make-it-up-as-you-go... er... 'spontaneous excutive authority' model of AFL management, I wonder if we could drop some hints to Gil that we would be interested in trading pick 2 as part of a deal to get King, and that way GC still gets to do their '1-2 buddy draft' without needing a start-of-draft priority pick.

Ah, yes, similar lines to what binman just posted. IT all relies on shady deals that once upon a time would have been called draft tampering but which are now 'operations management'! :D

They've got Brissy's first, so a bit higher up this year than 7. But yeah, i could see the AFL being happier to give GC a mid or end of 1st round priority pick if they knew they were going to end up with the first 2 picks anyway. Even if Brissy drop back to 4th, which will give them around pick 16/17 (after academy picks) then it still rates King around pick 9/10, so I could see everyone being happy with us giving up pick 2 for King plus 16. And GC then getting pick 20 or so as the priority.

Players are only worth what other clubs are prepared to pay.  Player rankings though a far from perfect measure (too many variables), but one that can provide a rough guide on what players might be worth, can be helpful.  Obviously one of the key constraints here is that clubs are constrained by what draft picks they have to offer.

Currently ANB is the 158th ranked player in the league  and 14th for position (that will actually go up at the end of the year with player retirements).  Stretch is the 533rd and 123rd for position.

Similar players traded last year (rankings are based on rd 1 2019 rankings) were:

Gary Rohan 302/40 for pick 61,

George Horlin-Smith 453/112 for pick 59,

Jackson Thurlow 444/110 for pick 70

Sam Lloyd 402/43 for pick 64

Dean Kent 487/81 for pick 65

Taylor Duryea 379/82 for future 4th round pick.

The ball-park measure for a joint trade was Jared Polec 90/48 and Jaspar Pittard 303/64  and 3rd round pick for pick 11 and future 4th round pick.  (North in a similar position to Gold Coast in that they needed experienced AFL players to fill a need and balance their list)

So  ANB  is probably worth a third round pick and Billy is probably worth a fifth round pick.

If we were to trade our first pick along with ANB and Stretch (both have positive cultural attributes the Suns need in terms of training and preparation and as players looking to extend their AFL careers this maybe attractive to them as well) to Gold Coast for King we could reasonably expect another  late first round pick* to come back.

* depending on what happens with their bid for a priority pick, but also what happens with Jack Martin and Peter Street remembering they also have Brisbane's first pick for this year as well.

I know I was anti trade pick 2 or 3, but for this kid I would.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
