Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I remember watching him coming into the game when we were affiliated with Sandringham.  I used to watch from behind the bench and saw that he was such a tough competitor, and was thrilled when he got picked for the seniors.

I love him to bits, and he has been a genuine club legend through incredibly tough times, but sadly I feel the game has started to pass him by, and it may be in his best interests were he to retire at year's end.  It would be more sad to see him dwindle off and play his career out at Casey.

Jack Viney is a slightly different story - hugely competitive (as is Nathan) and also hard as nails, but my thoughts are that he would be in his and the club's best interests to relinquish what really does appear to be the added burden of captaincy (probably to Max or possibly Tom) and concentrate on getting his body right and regaining his competitive beast self.

It would take an enormous amount  of courage (which he has) and also a lot of insight (which I am less certain he has) to do so.

No offence LB, but if I hear that phrase one more time I'm going to spew up.

It's a dumb, nothing phrase that comes from a lack of nuance.

'Drain the swamp' is the other one, thanks to Donald.

Apologies MS, I was at work and in a hurry.  I'll try to be better nuanced in the future ;)

However if you're comparing me to the Donald then I will definitely be taking offence.

Can we get Roughy as a forward coach?

Can we Get Roughy to explain to our players that you don't pull the pin on Training camps , Coz its all TOOOOO HARD !!

This bloke knows something about HARD. He has done HARD yards with well Documented Medical issues.

Our blokes seemingly like soft shoe shuffle.. Yep let's put it at players Feet. Like the Glory but have no appetite for what it takes to get there!

Tell me if I am wrong. Cancelled training camp?? Weak!

Well done Roughy!!

I hear in many circles that Hodge is a Coach in waiting. Very cluey , understands the game, understands roles, understands HIS role and a good conveyor of strategy.

Can't say I've ever heard any of that , and Jones,  in the same sentence.

Can we poach Hodge as an assistant next year?

I assume they've probably locked him in at Lions

Gerard Healy said that Jones would give the captaincy away at the end of the season "On the Couch".  There was some discussion about alternatives but seemed to be a consensus that Viney would keep it most likely with someone else (read Gawn). Interestingly Roos said nothing at all. I think we are all out of left field leadership options. Gawn stands out as the obvious choice, I just hope that it doesn't limit his impact as a player.  He's been our only shining light this season.

“The issue is going to be Jack. Now I think they elevated Jack too early, I said, that at the time.

“He was terrific last year but he’s in a bit of a hole now

“And until you’re in control, complete control of your game, I think it’s a pitfall to name him captain. But where do they go now with Jack … I think they’ve got to back him in.

“I questioned at the time when they made him co-captain.

“I didn’t think it was necessary and I didn’t think he was in control of his game and until you’re mature enough to be in control, adding the burden of captaincy I think is unfair.”

Goodwin said just last week that Viney and Joney are magnificent leaders of the Club.

They do it every rubber no matter what suit is trumps. Also Viney also bids 7 hearts regardless of what he's dealt. Such a tough nut!

Goodwin himself always leads with the highest card in his hand. Other coaches enjoy playing against Goodwin.

Why would he come from a serious premiership contender to a soft underachieving club -- unless he is one who loves to take on an enormous challenge?

Lever would make a fine captain. Level headed bloke, reads the game well, speaks very well, he would be worth listening to if he spoke up among the group. I think he is an absolute stand out as a potential leader for the MFC.

would, perhaps, if he managed to play a full season.

I agree Gawn is the obvious and probably only choice

I think he would thrive on the extra responsibility of being leader. He has the personality that would embrace being captain. Could send him to a new level as a player too

Jones, Viney, Jetta and Gawn are the four in the leadership group this year.

Jones wont be captain next year or in the leadership group, he'll be concentrating on making the 22.

IMO it will be Viney and Gawn next year, with Jetta concentrating on getting fit to play.

Hopefully Viney can have an injury free run and play to his capabilities.

They might add TMac and/or Lever to the leadership group.

I also like Lever as a Captain. He seems understated and thoughtful, and I think we are far from seeing his best that he demonstrated at Adelaide.

I have always respected Trent Cotchin as a player, as he is the person who I would imagine at Richmond does the right things when nobody’s watching. And his behaviors were accentuated by colleagues like Edwards and Grimes.

In saying that, I am not sure we have a player to that level on our list.

It's clear. Work ethic, great on the training track, good club man, encourages others, sacrifices own game ...

Gawn strikes me as a nominee. That said it might be a burden too much. He's  obviously  very fed up and frustrated. Would bridling him with the captaincy skew his focus ?

He obviously  tries to lead but would having him have to lead distract.

We're  a bloody basketcase of a club really. Half a list thats useless..and a whole box of incapables.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the captains voted in by the players?

Edit: I know years ago it was a vote by the players with final sign off by the coaches. Has this changed?

Yes.  Viney was a 'captains call' by Goodwin.

Goodwin told Jones (iirc while on the golf course) that Viney would be a co-capt without even telling Jones there would be a co-capt.  Completely blindsided him on both counts.

Players had no say in Viney.  Not sure about players voting in Jones.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
