Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Has been pointed out by a few already, but the O Mac goal was a rare moment of joy for the game for me and an even better moment for the man himself.  Yes in the context of the game, it was a pretty meaningless act and goal, but I just thought that it was great for a guy who has struggled all season and been kicked in the guts by the game itself, commentators and many of our own supporters to get a little moment in the sun like that.

Where O Mac goes as a footballer from here is yet to be seen, but I think it's a great mark of his character the way he has fought on and persevered this season when he has looked so beaten at times it must be pretty hard to keep getting back up and presenting.

Yep, when Mihocek ran in to mark in front of Salem, with Lever just watching and not making a contest.

Lever also had 0 tackles.

So I've gone and taken a look. All four of Mihocek's goals are in the highlights video on the AFL website.

The first one, which it seems is the one you're referencing, Lever had the front position covered but the kick, cleverly, went behind them allowing Mihocek to run back with the flight.

The second one was a panic-hold from Lever. So that's definitely one against him.

The third one Lever slipped and Adams' kick was perfectly placed.

The fourth one Lever wasn't in the contest.

And how do you say the tackle stat is relevant? For context, Scharenberg, Mayne and Howe (all playing in key defensive posts for Collingwood) had 0 tackles. Hibberd, JKH and May also registered donuts. So it's not like Lever was on his lonesome on that front.

Three that i can remember:

One: allowed Mihocek an easy run and jump at a marking contest and didn't even get body on him

Two: lever gave away a holding free kick (though to be fair it was very soft).

Three: he got completely lost, slipped and allowed Mihocek and uncontested mark 10 meters out from goal.

One - watching the replay I don't think that's a fair summation of it at all.

Two - agree

Three - doesn't look lost to me, looks like he slipped and Mihocek got off him. Granted, I think one of Lever's problems is he's not particularly quick, so he's going to get caught on leads a bit I think.

Anyway, certainly one he gave up, maybe two, but not all four, and if these are the sorts of goals he's giving up then I'm not as fussed as it seems others are.

I am certainly not sold on Lever yet happy to give him next year to prove himself and prove me and others wrong. But right now I certainly don’t think he will ever be worth his reported hefty contract. And I think the club has got its list management out of whack paying two back men around 1.5 to 1.6m a year and it certainly doesn’t help they both seem injury prone.

It’s a catch 22. Try pay 1.6m or continue with OMac down back. Lose/lose situation

My thoughts exactly.

We got Lever on spec, so to speak. It was a gamble in so far as we were betting he based on one terrific season that he would be star of the competition. The comparison to rance was being made. I really hope this proves to be that case.

May was a much better bet in terms of exposed form. I love how he has played for us thus far and assuming he can stay fit i am much more confident we have pulled the right lever (pardon the pun) with him

I see one hero has put the boot into young Dunkley. Gimme a break! Brought onto an AFL list half way through the season at 18 years of age and playing senior footy already.

The same 2L also baked Petty. Lot of upside in that young fella.

I agree, Petty has shown me something since the move forward. Still very raw bit something to work with.

Dunkley should not be playing senior footy, not his fault we've just been decimated with injury. That's not to say he'll never be good enough but he should be developing in the 2s.

Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. Even with the players we had out there, the game could have looked very very different if even half of those turnovers had reached their intended targets.

Partly skill, partly confidence, but partly also knowing what your team mates are going to do, and for it all to become intuitive.

Big pre-season awaits.

Turnovers after quarter time, missed set shots in the first quarter. Gawn, Petracca x2 and Fritsch. Scoreboard pressure would've made a big difference with the Pies being so far off their game.

Compare it to the game in 2017 where they came out and couldn't miss. We were 7 goals down before we knew what had happened. We could've done the same to them today but missed costly set shots. Started off with Gawn not even making the distance in the first 5 minutes.

Gawn and Petracca should be forced to take 100 set shots every day over summer. It's all about routine with these two, you can see it in their run up they have no confidence they'll kick the goal.

Petracca continued his good form today if he can sort out his set shots he'll have a breakout season next year tearing games apart.

Yep I agree with you. They need the percentage and they need to build form for their final two 8-point games.

I reckon people saying they put the cue in the rack are just looking for things to be negative about.

Same people who said West Coast and Richmond "never got out of second gear"?

We were terrible after quarter time today but some people just look for the negatives in everything.

Whilst we had a few out we really were just about playing a Magpie 2nd 18. Need to realise we are just not good enough at moment and having the need to play to many guys that are just not up to AFL standard at present. Let's hope this improves next year big time but one player I am really concerned about is Hunt. Just running around ( and not fast) doing not much.

Big Trade period coming up and huge pre season for all players left on lis.

Apparently they only had 6 from their grand final side out. We had 9 from our prelim side. The quality of the overall game reflected that.

As for the game, why do we constantly ignore the first option? We actually have some guys that run hard to create but are often ignored.

This Is the classic problem where players are either too scared to make the wrong decision,  confused about which option to take,  have lost trust in their team mates, are worried about their own stats (DE/T'OVERS) or simply don't have the right skills.

Make no mistake this is a coaching and leadership issue. Goodwin and his team are devoid of answers. They are flailing in their jobs. Belatedly trying moves to rejig the team which ends up destroying any system or Morale that may be left.

The year can't finish soon enough for us but sadly we are still left with the rotting carcass of an ineffectual and useless coaching panel for 2020. As for viney and Jones they should step down as captains.  They have clearly failed.

I thought that we got smashed in the midfield with Sidebottom seemingly always on his own, Pendlebury never fumbling. We were down on both wings as well which is no surprise with baker and Dunkley learning the trade. Someone needs to tell Clarry to gain some composure, as he is always in a hurry and handbills before the recipient is ready. He should kick more instead of those errant handballs.

They got so much run of half back and we got none. Such a low skilled game neither team should be happy.

I have knocked him from pillar to post. But i did smile when Oscar kicked his first goal. Good on him. I'll give him credit, he actually went in hard into the the contest with such aggression that I have never seen from him.

With May going down I'd say he'll go back to defence for the remaining 2 games.

We were done on the wings because they spent the day playing a man off the back of the square to run cover across defence, whilst a defender hit up into the square.  This left a winger down.  Jones was often the man starting on the back corner of the square, leaving their winger free to do as he liked.

The Pies also set up at contests with one man out the back (or side) to act as receiver.  We are like labradors chasing a tennis ball.

We had no run off half back mainly because they slowed the ball down and looked for terrible options.  Some OK switches, but too often all they had was a kick to a poor contest up the line.  Even when options were there, poor skills or going too slow cost us outlets.

Look at the lions & the players they have recruited vs ours inc their coach ex hawk under Clarko....

I fear Goody Is too one dimension & has a flawed game plan & hasn’t adapted to 6,6,6. I look at lions list all quick zippy & energy in their fwd line vs our lumbering & Garlett looks disinterested. We have payed overs for Lever & May who will struggle to play each week. Wonderful football club the mFC is which is stating to get a bad smell of imploding, coach sacking & board upheaval.. so what has changed?

It hurts but I actually hate this club .. just a miserable footy club who are pretenders & masquerade in thinking they can be successful, ruin footy players careers. Not worth the emotional investment anymore!

This is the real danger of the shiitefest we have witnessed this year. Supporters not showing up, not buying memberships, sponsors bailing, poor TV fixtures, supporters disengaging emotionally from what is essentially an emotional investment.

A few of the nufs will say 'good riddance' but we can't afford to lose a single supporter and in particualr younger supporters.

This club has an incredible ability to shoot itself in the foot.

Random thought but would have we won a game in 2018 if we were missing all of Hogan, T Mac and Weideman? Probably against GC and Carlton...but anyone else....?

I know I’m sounding like an apologist but the forward line we’re putting out each week isn’t league standard,  and it’s cost us every week since T Mac got injured. That and our horrid skills all over the park.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
