Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy

HaydenYoung and Lachie Ash are 2 absolute gem footballers.

I am bias because of my work that I did with Ash in the past but Young is quite similar to Lachie Whitfield.

Which is the better kick dazzler?

Anyone who blames or criticises the AFL are a disgrace! The club should not be in this position of even being eligible for a top 8 pick. Expectations were to play finals, nothing more, nothing less.

So dees supporters who think we are entitled to pick 2 should hang their heads in shame.

The club does not give a continental whether it is successful or not (just another example here https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2019-08-24/we-take-full-responsibility-jones) so why should we care as supporters.

Besides, we will of course waste pick 2 or 3 or whatever we get because we are Melbourne!

Whatever.

Q) What do Fyfe, T Kelly, Dangerfield, P Cripps, Bontempelli, Grundy, Gawn, Neale and Dusty Martin have in common?

A) Blokes that are dominating 2019 and are at the absolute top of their game, and none of them were top 2 picks.

The eventual best player of this draft won’t be picks 1 or 2.

Sam Walsh goes alright.

But I get your point.

What type of players are they, Daz?

Ash - Strong half back/ midfielder who's biggest strength is his high speed and power to break the lines. Started the season and under 18 championships as a running half back flanker whos intercept marking is also highlight. After the championships ended, there were question on whether Ash could push up into the midfield. Proved that theory correct by averaging around the 24 disposal mark since playing as an on baller. Ripper bloke who is co-captain of the bushiesand a really driven individual. 187cm 84kg.

Young - Half back player who like Ash was questioned whether he could make the transition from back to the midfield and again proving that he's adding more strings to the bow by pushing up to a wing and winning big numbers around the midfield. Shows absolute class and silk with his dead eye right foot kick. His ability to kick low flat 50m kicks to a target is seriously a sight to behold. 188cm tall who is also a strong intercept mark and someone who would make an immediate impact for an AFL club next year as a half back flanker/wingman. Lachie Whitfield type for me.

Both good kicks but Young is your absolute cream on the top. You'd simply get the ball in this blokes hands at every opportunity as possible.

He goes very well. But in 5-10 years will he be the best player from that draft?

The absolute super star generational talents such as Buddy, Fyfe, Danger, Judd, Dustin Martin and others were not top 2 picks.

It's a fair point.  I had a quick look at the drafts since 2010, and apart from a few of the earlier ones where Coniglio, Whitfield and Josh Kelly were taken within the first two picks, the rest of the drafts were a little on the underwhelming side.

How can it be announced officially tomorrow if Gold Coast are only meeting the commission tomorrow to ask for it , and any decision won’t be ratified until after the grand final from what I read in another article

I had Josh Kelly on my mind but didn’t want to mention him as that would’ve contradicted my comment.

An absolute gun at pick 2.

Conigilo and Whitfield are right up there as well, but I think you're point is right more often than not.  There are other examples, such as Hodge at pick 1, Roughie at pick 2 and so forth, but there have been plenty others as you've mentioned that came outside those two picks and turned out to be gun players.  I don't think this change in pick order matters much at all.

Sorry, could be my bad, just figured they would announce it tomorrow seeing they're deciding tomorrow. (Rumours were it was already decided a week or two ago anyway).

Sounds about right for the afl , they probably encouraged them to ask for it

Young's kick is a thing of beauty. I'm torn between Young and Ash, but gee Young's kicking would make our transition sooo much better:

Disgraceful. They delist a contracted jarryd lyons last year and get a before R1 PP. Adeliaide would be livid too after trading future R1s. AFL corruption. As if their 6 top10 pocks in the last 2 years have helped them. They need to get rid of their dud coach like Carltank did.

I am the same mate. I like Ash because I am bias but the more I think about it the more I lean towards Young.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
