Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Interesting chat on Trade Radio this morning. Tomlinson was saying that it was Goody’s pitch to him that really impressed him when deciding on the Dees as his club of choice amongst the Saints and Dogs (cant wait for all the synics here to claim its 100% about the $$$). Also said he feels his best positions are within the midfield which from where I took it was on-ball, as well as on and center half back. However in an interview yesterday said that the club’s idea was to play him on the wing and in the forward line. Will be intersting to see where he fits in, although I’d like to see him sit in one position to find some stability and only move him if there’s a desperate need to fill a hole on gameday.

heard him on sen - same interview? - and he said he very much likes to play on the wing and that's where he expects to line-up, where he spoke to goodwin about playing, and that he also thinks he can come up to the contest and use his big frame in that space

he sounds way older than 26

“I love playing on the wing. Obviously you can get pigeonholed on the fat-side wing but Goody has specified being around the ball at the stoppages as well.

“I’m a big body and I love being around the ball and using my frame.

“That’s exactly what he spoke about when he caught up. It’s one of the reasons why I’m really keen to come to the club.”

This guy is too slow for the wing.  Hang on, Goody thought he could get away with Lewis and Jones on the G versus the tigers for memory.

He is perfect.

Richmond have been going all out for fast and tough.  Melbourne have continually been attracted to one-paced and/or non-physical.  Do the maths.  One is headed for a dynasty; the other for another rebuild on rebuild on rebuild.  Lucky for the club that our supporters tolerate the slow and steady path to chronic failure.  Our appetite for snake oil is unsurpassed.

At best, Tomlinson is a good 2nd ruck, 3rd tall forward or back.  Preuss is now very much water in Goody’s snake oil.

Spoke extremely well on both trade radio and SEN. We've got yourself a fantastic individual who will add a lot not only on field but more importantly off field.

A huge factor for goody. make no mistake goody is following the hardwick path in terms of game plan (very similar, though of course not the same) - forward of centre, contest out, get the ball forward at all costs, chaos entries inside 50 etc - and the critical importance of having the the right culture.

When we get Lever, May and now Tomlinson on the park together they'll add a bonus of mature hard footy smarts and grunt that will help our young team step back up in 2020. If the footy god smile on us an VDB, KK and Smith recover we shall be a beast to deal with.

Getting excited about 2020.

I wonder if they're thinking of using him as a backup ruck. It sure as [censored] beats having Tmac there, robbing us of our only key forward, with his dodgy foot / ankle / shoulder / leg / etc

I don't know why people are saying Tomlinson is slow.  He's not lightning quick, but he certainly isn't slow.

Agreed. For his size he is very light footed and athletic.

People comparing him to Jones and Lewis on the wing have NO idea. He is also an elite mark, and how often were we coming out of the backline this season with literally nobody to kick to (except Gawn vs. 19 opponents)?

We lost Hogan who played so well roaming up the ground and taking marks as a link up man. Tomlinson really fills that gap and will allow us to transition the ball more purposefully up forward.

I think we got Tomlinson so we can use him in a similar style to that of Vandenberg was when fit. and Hogan and TMac at times as well. not a true outside winger in the old sense, but a big body utility type used in and around the contest, with the ability to work into space and take a mark around the ground.

If Pruess gets super AFL ready / fit.  A big If.  And IF he can handle a serious AFL role for weeks at a time.  No doubt he still gets the occasional "managed" and/or learnings/recovery/match ups stint back at Casey for a week or more on occasions.

How about we start blooding him a little more in the middle at center bounces and through the middle while Big M spends a bit more time up forward?

That way Tomo gets to play in areas he might be more effective / damaging and T-Mac isn't always copping the tallest or No.1 defender.  T-Mac can't be expected to carry the only tall KF mantle in 2020 if we can't trade in an alternative.

And with Pruess covering the ruck while Big M is resting on the bench this allows Tomo to go forward more often playing the 2nd KF role in support of T-Mac.

P.S. A fit Hannan on one wing and Langdon on the other is, imho, potentially the most damaging duo.  Not saying Tomo never plays through there but much of it will depend on where Goody sees Hannan/Tomo playing.  When Hannan pushes forward Tomo can fold back to a wing role for the outlet kick behind play etc.  Two very different players both offering different assets in these positions.

You keep saying this, except he plays on a wing. That's his best position.

Here is his possession heat map for 2019. The one showing the hotspots on the wings, a bit in the centre,  the defensive flanks and dropping back to full back (but never going near CHB),  and occasionally drifting forward on the flanks? That's Tomlinson.

Can anyone explain to me what the blue dots are meant to represent that the colours don't? If the blue dots are meant to be possessions, do they add anything that the colours do not? And, if that's the case, I'm struggling to see why the colours are what they are. There seems to be plenty of inconsistency. Many of the blue dots seems to appear in areas coloured yellow/green (see the area just outside the forward 50m mark or the full back position, for example) which seem to have just as much density as some of the red/orange.

I think the colour would represent time spent in that part of the ground? Obviously players don't have possession of the ball all the time, and the map would indicate more time was spent on or near centre wing, in the middle when the ball is on the other side, or drifting to half forward or half back.

Tomlinson:  "Steve May's got a ripping left foot out of the backline, I won't mind getting hit on the wing with that, it's pretty good". Tomlinson Trade

Reckon he also won't mind getting a few from Salem.

  • Tomlinson: I’m super excited. I caught up with Goody a few times + the characteristics of the footy club really aligned with me. We’ve spoken about playing a consistent role next year + really getting some continuity in my footy.
  • Tomlinson: A lot of people talk about talent, but it doesn’t mean much if you don’t work hard. I’m looking forward to working really hard with this group, getting stuck into a big pre-season.
  • Tomlinson: I scratched the surface in 2018 in terms of my form - I performed a lot better than I did this year. I think I’ve got a lot more to give + I can’t wait to get stuck in.
  • Tomlinson: It’s been an emotional time, having only finished playing a couple of weeks ago. I thank GWS for everything over the past eight years, but I’m very excited to be here.
  • Tomlinson on his off-season: I think I start in six weeks, so it’ll be straight back into it. I’ll get things sorted in Sydney, before resetting + getting ready for pre-season. I can’t wait.

Always liked him as a player but I'm not sure he's exactly the type of player we are screaming out for.

He is however clearly best 15 or better for us so improves our list and costs us stuff all. He's missed one game in 4 years which was the elimination Final so he's very durable.

Very polished in the media,  impressive young bloke

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
