Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He played well that day and it was a great win, but... his last touch was a clear throw that he was very lucky to get away with.

If the umpire was even slightly tuned-in, it would have been a Hawthorn shot on goal at the siren.

See above 39...  the Hawks have been dishing this rubbish up for a good decade or longer and mostly getting away with it.  All power to anyone in the red & blue who has caught on, pushing the envelope and getting away with it most of the time, helping to clear congestion more often vs getting caught and pinged for dragging ball in or another stoppage closer to opp's goal giving them a chance to clear and score.

If he is committed to leaving GWS, someone forgot to tell him.

There is no reason to shadow box at this stage if he wanted to/accepted he was leaving.  He sounds very genuine that he desperately wants to stay.

Agree. I think Smith was a big loss this year. I really rate him and have tge feeking tbat wirh some luck with injury he could become something special.

I don't really rate him that highly...he has the athletic abilities a bit like Frost but better in the air.

When played forward in real games he just got in the way and didn't have any ability to read the play.

Played elsewhere he got caught out of position, with decision making and execution poor.

Crikey.  So we're thinking of bringing in damaged goods (psychologically)?  Not exactly the best mind set to start off at a new club.

Weird that his own Mum would come out after the Grand Final saying that was his last game for GWS then.

Reckon Tommo is just saying what he thinks are the right things IMO.

He was headed to St Kilda...that fell apart.

I think we are the fall back as GWS want to move him on.

He knows GWS need the $cap space and are moving him on.  I would think the right things to say are how much he enjoyed GWS but looking forward to the next chapter of his life.

The interview had the markings of someone who hasn't accepted he is being shown the door.

Must be difficult to know his club is closing the door and there is only one club (17th on the ladder) that is embracing him.

If he comes I hope he cheers up about it.

Technically, if he hasn't had his exit interview yet then he may not have been shown the door at this stage.

We should have grabbed him instead of Dom Tyson years ago.

He has been home sick for years. But hung around because the money was good.

He kicks well and marks well overhead, I don't think his pace is all that good, but he can certainly read the play.

You are a harsh critic Mach.

As Garry said in the commentary, "courage" to put himself in a position to intercept.  Took possession, baulked two or three Hawks, used pace to run into space and lowered vision to hit up Lockhart.  Not too shabby for a tall gangly giraffe i reckon.

2nd bit of desperation play did involve an amount of luck with a loose ball but that's often the case with the random oval.  Can go in any direction.  He dived to trap it and yes threw the ball but tried to make it look a tad legit (poorly i guess but who cares...umpire blind sided as often they are and got away with it).  The Hawks, Eagles and others (eg., Doggies especially in their 2016 premiership year) have been tossing / throwing / chucking the ball out of congestion for decades (Hawks / Essendrug and Eagles the original experts imv) and escaping congestion quicker than many other teams (prior to those teams catching on) giving them a huge advantage vs others that mostly tended not to and tried to use traditional more correct methods most of the time (ie., we were one!).  We finally start to catch on and utilise the same tactics and you want to kill it off / criticise it?  Lordy lordy.

Each to their own i guess.

Courage? It's his role. He has no fear of making a mistake, as he makes them consistently.
Took possession. Baulked is putting it kindly. Through dumb luck (not design) the red seas parted, and he's gifted with the agility to take advantage of that. Hit the right target. He has done some things right, but he is afforded too much credit for this play.

He was lucky, but the act itself was an incredibly stupid decision. Right in front of goal, and he decides to launch his body headfirst at the legs of others. He has practically begged to have a decision made against him, and has only succeeded by the incompetence of the umpire.

Frosty has been capable of moments of sheer brilliance, but it is often a result of combining his supreme athleticism with sheer luck.
And far too often he demoralises his teammates but making dumbfounding decisions while they're pushing hard to provide options further afield, ultimately catching them out of position and leaking easy goals.

It's time to let him be somebody else's problem.

Fair enough Mack. Very happy to agree to disagree on those two passages of play.

MELBOURNE are likely to secure GWS free agent Adam Tomlinson on Saturday after the Giants best-and-fairest award.

He will join the club on a four-year deal worth around $500,000 a season

A good get for the Dees. Solid role player who will add professionalism, leadership and experience to our side.

Average wage was 362k a year (2018 stats) so that figure will probably be about 400k next year. I think that's ok. He's worth just slightly more than the average player.

Agreed.

People are enthusiastic about Smith’s return and I don’t wanna rain on the parade... I just don’t think I’ve ever seen him play a good game in the firsts.

He's a solid citizen who's played in three preliminary finals and a GF in the last 4 years and was the Giants best player (and arguably best afield) in the 2017 prelim.  He'll be good for the Demons.

Where’s his best position. I have seen him play CHF and was ok.  But his finals were terrible.  He missed targets. He played reserve ruck and looked slow. Maybe was out of position.  Definitely not a wingman as some on D-land have suggested.

That's exactly it, mountains of natural ability, but cant consistently execute basic fundamentals of the game, or stick to the game plan and as a result his special moments are overshadowed by his shocking ones.

I think he's a bit like Tom McDonald.  An elite runner, not likely to kick as many goals as Tom but a competent KP player who needs some freedom through the middle. Many of TMac's really good games were when he started on the wing and drifted forward.  I think Tomlinson can be similar - maybe more effective back than forward.  What he will do is present as an option down the line.  This season other than Gawn, we had nobody do that consistently. I've watched him for a few seasons and while he's no star, I believe he will make us a better side.

if reports are correct about 500K I am very happy the club have managed to tempt him to us without selling the farm.  Almost impossible to trade a good quality AFL regular for less than 500.  remember Dawes on 500K per year 5 years ago?  oh dear

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
