Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Never really thought he does much anyway, average footballer.

Agree completely. Below average career stats in every facet except marking. Has never got a Brownlow vote in his career. Despite having a relatively injury free career, unlike most of his well credentialed teammates, has only 1 top ten club b & f (7th last year) in over 130 games. Not sure what his best position is. Maybe front row in the team photo because he looks like he should be able to play.

Did anyone notice how much time he spent thrown in as the backup ruckman against Oscar McInerny?

Tomlinson is a great utility and plugs gaps for them. It’s not always about purely individual performance, it’s what his presence allows the side to do.

Team riddled with injury playing in a prelim final...

Have a look at their injury list during the season, with us they had one of the highest levels of games missed, and to key players.

It's a testament to them that they are through to the Prelim & are now getting their team back on the ground.

They could even win it.

It shows up our excuses...and lack of depth.

100% agree with all that mate, its been good seeing a side respond so well to adversity but not the point I was making. Tomlinson is hardly the equivelant of ANB filling in for an injury riddled dees sidel. He’s a much better player than half of what we have right now and we get him for nothing. I think everyone needs to quell their judgements after watching one performance...

My opinion on Tomlinson doesn't come from one performance...

It comes from junior through to senior football.

He's never been a big possession winner or had a big influence on games, it's not the type of player he is.

We've got him now but don't expect him to make a big difference, will be better than what we have but not sure why we chased him.

I hope we have other irons in the fire...

He isn't a superstar, and nor do the club expect him to be one, he is as some people call it, a role player, or moneyball. What ever language you wish to use, we have the grunt to get the pill, AND we need someone with silk who can deliver the ball into the 50. He will be ONE of those person...

More broadly speaking, I feel in these forums, there is a need to move away from looking at high possession counts as the only way to influence the game, when we are discussing the value of a draftee...

And, this is simply one mans' opine

Having barely missed a game for a the last four years in a team that has made finals in each of those years.

The same people who think we shouldn't get him based on one game probably salivate over highlight videos of prospective draft picks.

No comparison rjay.

One, yes they were hit hard by injury. But not as hard as us.

Two, they had a good preseason so fitness was not an issue as it was for us (and as I and others  have pointed out it's the combination of those 2 factors that really creulled our season).

Three they have much greater depth. I don't think they had any players lining  up who started the season in an under 18 comp or working on the docks.

Four, they are an older, more seasoned team with an age profile that means their players are better able to cope with the impact and demands of an AFL season that goes deep into finals.

He will make our team better and fits easily into our best 22.

Well when you've got OMAC, JKH, Stretch, Spargo and the Wagner's getting several games a year, it really isn't that high a bar to clear.

Agree he isn't going to be a world-beater, but he will help improve our bottom 6, and that shouldn't be underestimated.

They should have great depth with all the players they've been gifted.

An article a few days ago reported Tomlinson was looking at 500k a season with us, struggling to locate that article though. Does 500k sound close to the mark if accurate?

That sounds more like it.

If he is on that, then it's half what the gun players are paid and is therefore probably market value for what he brings to the side.

My view of Tomlinson hasn't changed after last night's match.  He has been put completely through the wringer in the last few week so it's understandable that he was far from his best last night.  He'll be a good addition to the team; not a saviour, but a good, solid, classy contributor.

Last night backed up my earlier impressions of him. He is just a bit part player, doesn’t really influence the game, but is tidy enough and can plug a variety of holes. I’m still not convinced he will add much to the side tbh, and also unsure what role we primarily have in mind for him.

It wasn't the argument 'bin'...

...but anyway I'm over it.

Tomlinson will be handy, hope we are not over paying, at least no draft picks are going out the door.

A bit vanilla but a bit of an upgrade I guess.

Also hope we have more in the pipeline, we definitely need a small forward and Langdon is the type we need on a wing.

I was responding to the comment: ' It shows up our excuses...and lack of depth.'

I heartily agree with the rest of your post. GWS have really dug deep to get to the prelim.

I like GWS and hope they go on to win the flag. Not least because i backed them at 26-1 prior to the dogs game. Their injury list is actually not too bad now and with Cognilio a chance to come back  they are not too far of their best team (Ward, Delidio and Patton are the other best 22 out injured). Tough game to back of from but they have the class to roll the Pies and if they do they will have their chance at a GF.

On Tomlinson i have little doubt we have more in the pipe line. He will add to our depth but as you suggest is not the answer to our ills. What he will do - as shown last night - is provide a viable option to give Maxy a chop out. Did ok when giving Mummy a chop out i thought. The clincher for me is we don't have to give up any players or picks for him. Only salary cap space.

Don't forget to look at the state of our own backyard before worrying too much about the state of next door's roses...

Frost had a great year. Size and pace is a hard asset to find in a key back.  My point was that I wouldn’t want to lose Frost because we are throwing $$$$ at Tomlinson. Hope we can keep Frosty and still bring in guys like Langdon and Tomlinson.

This must be a joke.  Not anywhere near Frost.   Tomlinson was poor to average tonight.  Would want to show something v Pies next week

Don’t forget spirit that he has made up his mind to move already and was dump last week so his body may be on field but his head is not there.

I know when I am leaving one job for another I check out basically straight away.

The fresh start will probably do him the world of good even if it is at our club.

I have no view on him as have never seen him play.

I noticed that the discussion here is that he rucked last night.  AFL website doesn't credit Tomlinson with Hit Outs or Clearances.  So wondering how people rated his rucking last night.  Thanks.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
