Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Useless facts #2344, 2345 ... et al

My son played junior footy with him years ago. His father was my dentist until he retired recently.

He was a nice boy. His father is a top bloke.

He was very unhappy at GWS years ago when he was repeatedly dropped. Wanted to come home. (Melbourne boy.)

He cemented a place in the GWS side, but possibly being dropped for a final will rekindle his desire to come home.

He really doesn’t get a lot of the ball at GW$

Has been able to consistently get on the park tho...

That's a step up for us! Where do we sign!

Although, if he comes to us, he might suddenly have a niggling injury our medical staff weren't able to find during his medical. Hasn't happened in the past...

I would be having Fritsch play that role.

Much better player.

The only similarity Tomlinson has to Lynch is his aerobic capacity.

Not good to get dropped for a final after being a regular for so long.

We need a player of his type in our forward line.

Genuine question, but what is his type?

From what I’ve seen, plus a glance at the stats, he is a big athlete who doesn’t kick many goals, doesn’t take many contested marks, and I get he plays up the ground a bit, but doesn’t get much of the ball either.

I remember tomlinson playing against the tigers in the prelim a couple of years ago. I thaught he was the giants best player. Mind you that is one game but it was a final. This could be interesting.

From the few Giants games I’ve seen he’s lined up around half-back and works fairly hard up between each 50, but seems a pretty versatile player who can fit anywhere. Is a decent kick of the footy only knock for me is that he doesnt seem that quick IMO

Could see him in a variety of roles as either a link up wingman due to his height and running capcity, or that taller forward working up the ground like Tom Lynch from the crows. Is in a similair sort of mould to AVB with some extra height about him minus the 4-6 week misson curse.

Was borderline All Australian a few years ago playing as a tall half back.

His main strengths are his endurance, running power, and kicking skills. He’s played the past year or two as a wing working between the arcs and has averaged a touch under 20 disposals in a team that doesn’t use the wings much. His kicking skills going inside 50 will be useful.

I think he’d be perfect as the lead up forward for us. Similar to Tom Lynch at Adelaide or Hogan when he played up the ground. He’s a great size, but doesn’t split packs. He’ll run anyone off their feet how Hogan used to, just wont hit the scoreboard as often. Because he’s a free agent and therefore no trade required, I’d hope we go hard at him. He’d definitely be in our 22 for a few years to come.

Who will he replace, and how will it make us a better side?

He has an equal or better tank than ANB. He could take his spot as a high half forward trying to out run his defender.

He can also be utilised more on the wing and half back.

He has been a best 22 player for a successful giants team for 4 straight years. I hope we get him across.

I’d probably be more keen to give Varcoe a year. Not convinced yet about Tomlinson.

What when? Tomlinson's never had a season that I've seen that would have him anywhere near an All Aus top 100 yet alone the squad.

He doesn't have near Tom Lynch's forward smarts nor the kicking. He can spot up a neat kick but to consistently hit targets in crowded 50's you need to play on quickly, manipulate the man on the mark and then hit up a target with super accurate kicking. Tomlinson can't do that. Plus we've already got a better player at doing that in Melksham.

Wing, with the added bonus of being a decent back up ruck is how the Giants use him and that's how I'd use him too.

If we're having a look at him, I wonder if we're thinking about playing him at half back and releasing Salem further up the ground?

Any trade that gets Salem “up the ground” would be a good one.

I do wonder about Salem's best position though.

I know it was early in his career, but he struggled as a forward IMO and has never dominated a centre bounce stoppage that I can recall.

In time, I hope he could be just as dangerous as a Whitfield (minus the running power), surrounded by Oliver, Brayshaw, Harmes and Petracca.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
