Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Last week I predicted a 30 point loss. This week I say with a good coaching performance and a confident bunch of players we can have a win.

Only two players in contention for inclusion this week and both must play if fit.

1 ) Marty Hore - what a disgrace that he was left to play VFL last week.

2) May - Obviously depends on him passing his fitness test.

Out: Lever (if injured, but I suspect that he will just be heavily strapped and will be good to go)

O.Mac - if the coach wants to omit Preuss instead, then O.Mac has to play forward and back-up ruck if that is the case.

C.Wagner - only left out if Lever is fit.

Shock move: I liked how Goody sent Hunt back last week to combat the pacey Tiger smalls and I think this week it's time we tried to get Salem more involved with offense and play him in the mids with job of tagging Sidebottom.

B: Hunt May Hore

HF: Jones Lever Hibberd

C Baker Brayshaw Salem

HF: Melky Petty Fritsch

F: Petracca Lewis Harmes

Ru: Gawn Oliver Viney

Int: Frost (def), JKH (mid), Dunkley (fwd),  Preuss or O.Mac (ruck/fwd)

Play Stretch for every match to see how bad he really is.

d+ If you close your eyes and imagine he is playing he will have the same impact. I would rather we went experimental, May and OMac forward with Viney as small forward, Preuss to the backline with Oliver , Gus and Salem on the ball. No tanking here just an in season experiment.

We have to play Hore, Petty, Baker, Dunkley and Preuss. They will definitely be at the club next year and need a run of games.

If Lever plays, May stays down back. These two plus Jetta and Hibberd need to play alongside each other to develop the connection that has been missing so much.

Omac. I passionately defended him about 2 years ago here on DL, saying wait until he has developed to 70 games. I waited. His development has taken a massive step back this year. No more games but keep unless another tall back develops.

Long term, I am not hugely impressed by the Wagner boys, so don't mind if they are dropped.

And I actually think we a real good chance against the June premiers Collingwood.

Good rationale. ..re players.

I fear it's  another Melbourne  2/3 - 3/4 worth of game coming  up.  Unlike us.. they'll  come  to play and refine ahead of finals.

OMac must be dropped for this game - too unable to contest the ball against an opponent, shirks the issues, reliant of chasing whilst getting further and further behind the spoiling zone, creates significant gaps in the backline arriving to the contest after the ball has been marked or delivered by hand and/or foot.

Yeh, the gate to the members lounge did not work ....is that Omac's fault too !!

Mmmm .. maybe Preuss to follow Cox wherever he goes (assuming he plays - isn't he under some sort of injury cloud?) ..... meaningless game so experiment time.

Too true.  Petty is just starting to show he is learning as a forward: why not leave him there?

Preuss’s stocks with respect to playing this week just plummeted.

I guess that could mean - Cox out, Preuss out.

Who would be Colonwood's back up ruckman?

Sounds like May will be back, not convinced by the Lever info though going on previous fitness tests.

Injury update: May set to return

I notice they also slipped in a line about Weideman having hip surgery, and not just one operation by the sound of it. Did I miss that previously or is that news to others as well?

Mid year he missed a couple of weeks and their were rumours he needed hip ops. First I've heard of it since though. Broken jaw may be a blessing in disguise if they were waiting to do them.

Yeah, he had the injury then but I think avoided surgery at the time, but I seem to recall him having hip surgery in his first or second offseason?

Interesting, I remember seeing somewhere they said he shouldn't miss too much preseason.

Thought that strange if it was only a broken jaw...

I had been promoting the idea of retaining Preuss purely for the extra support he gives Max in the ruck. However, the weather forecast for Saturday which inlcudes a 95% chance of showers, between 8-15 mm of rain, a chance of thunderstorms, possible hail and snow down to Preuss's eyebrows suggests it might not be the conditions in which to play him. Cox being out also reduces the need for a giant second ruckman. But, if T Smith isn't available and with our other nominal KPFs already out injured, who could give Max the 5 minute break he needs each quarter if Preuss doesn't play? It hasn't worked before, but do we turn to Frost (which coincidentally seems a weather appropriate name)?

Can't use injuries as an excuse this week:

Collingwood missing 9 of their best 22:

De Goey, Stevenson, Beams, Langdon, Sier, Cox, Moore, Aish and Wells (who will return for finals).

Or will the apologists still blame the interrupted pre season, 21 weeks later?

As a whole I agree, but you're including Sier as a best 22 player? He couldn't get a game until they had an injury 'crisis'.

Agree in that he didn't get a game in the early rounds when they were up and about. Beams probably took his place.

However, he had an interrupted pre season and was a part of their grand final side last year, so he's certainly in the best 22-26 mix for Collingwood.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
