Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I agree. Would have batted but I don't think 294 is a good score. A minimum of 400 on what looks like a good batting pitch.

Agree. Smith could get 294.... :)

We've all known the Australian batting is poor aside from Smith and Danke Shane of late but the total failure of Warner is alarming.

There will be changes this summer with at least Khawaja, Wade and perhaps Warner on the outer. Not sold on Paine although the ACB have painted themselves into a dark corner with their sacking of Smith which in hindsight was a gross over reaction. (Six months perhaps at most.)

Melbourne Storm play tonight so after the Boomers losing, Geelong winning and the Poms on top there is hope for us yet.

Heavy smoke haze here in Asia. Happens most years with forest burning in Indonesia. It's not the trees but the peat in the earth and it burns non stop until the rains come. Air quality levels are high so no exercise recommended which gives an excuse for more kayo watching.

Captain Bland strikes again, his good captaincy moments have been cancelled out by his poor ones, and when we need him to make runs he fails again.

I think the captaincy on both side has been pretty ordinary. They dont set attacking fields on a regular basis, in a series where the ball has totally dominated. I just cant understand it.

Hard to believe what goes on in Indonesia on a yearly basis. Ditto Amazon. Perhaps the next major war will be fought over climate change.

Storm off to a slow start. Who did the Boomers lose to, i missed that?

Were in big trouble here. Effectively they are 1-127. Good wicket by Lyon, but hes been costly.

Are we being told off for sledging then? Wade is a bit of a classic. He got stuck into Archer last match.

Well, there is still plenty of time and you just cant predict anything in this series. Surely they can get Denly out, just bowl wide. Maybe were in for another thriller.

So how many can we chase down Wadda?

Any more than 300 is an ask.  350 and England win you'd imagine.  They are now 2-157 (effectively) and if Stokes gets going the match could slip away very quickly

Not conceding yet but I must say I would have taken a 2-2 result in a heartbeat before the series started.  I thought they'd win 3-1 or 2-1 so retaining the Ashes is a bit of a surprise.

Our batting has been diabolical apart from Smith & to a lesser degree Labuschagne.  Yet even so,  we should have been up 3-0 going into this test (if we hadn't have blown the 3rd test)

Not sure Macca. If they bat all day, they win. WE need a collapse and on this wicket, thats an ask. Im not at all confident in our batting line up apart from the bloke at 4, but even he has his limits. Does he have to save our butt in every game?

I went through Warners figures in the last series in England. 17, 52, 38, 83, 2, 77, 0, 64, 85. So its definitely between his ears i rekon. This coming innings is a real chance for him to stand up. Its not like the wicket is falling apart. I think anything more than 260 is probably a bridge too far. What i dont know is why?

Now if were playing for the Ashes in the last innings........

ahhhh...... give us two days and 500 is possible

Need 3 wickets at least this session

The forest burning is complicated Wadda. I agree it's horrible but as a percentage of removing trees.. Australia is probably worse and Europe is miles worse.

And then some turkey on 3aw says we should reduce aid to Indonesia

PS Boomers lost to Spain.

We were five seconds off winning.... and now we know Storm lost in the last two minutes !!

We have turned off in this test. Our fielding was very poor and the pace bowlers have lacked a little. Batting was disgraceful yesterday apart from the unit and charlemagne.

yep... we have never been good in the so called dead rubbers but hell... this is for a series win !

Well now actually Indonesia is currently the the worlds third largest emitter of greenhouse gases behind China and the United States because of the illegal burning of forests to clear land for cultivation. They have some of the most biologically diverse forests in the world ranking third behind Brazil and the Congo. Forests represented 84% of their total land area in 1900. This has been reduced to around 100m hectares since that time. So thats 41% of their forests removed. I dont think we have removed 40% of our trees have we?

But yes its complicated because of the economics of survival and its the same in Brazil and Ecuador. So until we come up with a viable solution.....the lungs of our planet will continue to die.

Storm were unlucky i thought in the end, but Canberra came to play. Its a hard road now via the Roosters, but if they can do it a flag awaits.

Has Paine actually ever got a review right? Its rather incredible. Yes we need 3 wickets this session min.....and there was one. Guess we just have to be satisfied with the Ashes, they dont seem too fussed.

Cant understand why Buttler comes in after Bairstow? Hes in the side as a batsman and Bairstow is ok, but hes more a keeper than batsman.

2 quick wickets.....300 behind. The best we could hope for is 350 and thats a stretch. Still looking like 400+.

We will be chasing down a bout 400.  I would tell warner to go out and have a bash. You just never know if we get a fast start.

Dreaming.?

That actually might spark them? If we could break Englands record run chase to win, in the same series.....how good would that be? Especially since we havent exactly got the most formidable batting line up of all time. If the Ashes were there for the taking, id almost back us. Warner might be the key.....if he could get to 60 or 70, then  ..perhaps game on. Our highest score so far is 8/497 in the last game and 7/487 in the first test, so its not completely beyond the realms of possibility. The wicket is looking pretty good.

England will probably win this test but we've got the prize for a good while (maybe until 2023 unless they somehow manage to defeat us here in 2021/22)

And I'm not sure England cared too much when we won the 5th test of the 1972 series in England to draw level 2-2.  Enjoy the moment.

If ever in London the Lords museum is well worth a visit. Outside the museum is a small lawn section with a bronze statue of Mr Lord pulling the pitch roller. Makes a great photo.

Very disappointed by the Lords Tavern.

Get the remaining wickets for less than 30 runs and we have a chase of 450 over five sessions on  a decent wicket.

Go to stumps tonight at 2 for 180 and it's game on tomorrow

On the present form (Smith aside) of the batsmen it is a hard ask

Lets be optimistic then. (we are used to it being Dees supporters)!

Ok, if they get another 20-30 runs thats a chase of 400-410. They will occupy the crease max 1 hour. We get to stumps at  say 5/240 that would leave 170 to get on the last day, with a wagging tail. It would then probably pan out pretty similar to the England run chase test 3. At least 2 batsman would have to stand up. We know who one is.....whos the other?

I would normally not even contemplate a chase of that magnitude but England did it and just a few weeks ago.

Love your optimism but watch the pitch start to turn by the end of today. A fast start is all we can hope for.

I think now watching how the wicket is starting to play, with variable bounce its gonna be hard. The top run chase at this ground is 260. The new bowler Curran was also very good and hes fresh.

EDIT: 2/29

Harris & Head can be added to that list DJ.

Time for some new blood.  We actually need 4 batsmen which is unprecedented.

If Alex Carey was in the side we could bat him as high as no.5 whilst Mitch Marsh could maybe bat at no.7.

Regardless,  there's a lot of holes to fill.  Yet here we are retaining the Ashes.  Strange days indeed.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
