Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Petracca gradually 'breaking out'

Consistency in footy is about bringing the same level of effort, commitment and performance week after week, month after month, for the entire season. Look through Petracca’s games overvthe course of the entire year, from rounds 1 to 19. He has been one of the least consistent  players in the 22.

Even within games where he does play okay he still goes missing for extraordinarily long periods.

Does not deserve the plaudits some are fawningly giving him in this thread. Nowhere near it.

Rated 5th in the whole league for forwards  stats tells me me he has been pretty consistent, and there is about 30 guys on the list he has performed better than this year.

Pulling his weight as far as I am concerned which is something you can’t say for a lot of our players.

Arguing about Petracca is the least of our problems.

You've got a blind spot here mate. Petracca's had a very consistent season. His work rate and intensity at ground level has been there all season.

I’d like to see him thrown in and stay in the midfield for extended periods.  He is our best stoppage player as he absorbs tackles and that allows us to get players to the outside. Trac won’t be able to run out games but he needs more responsibility thrown at him.

Oliver is by far our best stoppage player, but in bursts, Petracca can be every bit as dangerous as a stoppage player (a bit like Degoey really).

Put him in the midfield for the rest of the year until his legs go like jelly and he can’t walk. Buildeth the tanketh

So what you’re saying is increase his load exponentially so the risk of soft tissue injury goes through the roof?

PS agree we want all our players fitter but sport science has come a long way over the past 20 years or so (not that it seems we are following sound principles with the injuries we have had).

love how he stands up in tackles, though at 96kgs for a mid, you'd expect him to be hard to budge.

The way he is able to use his strength to break free and burst out of trouble the way he does has generated so much drive and forward momentum for us this season at times when the play would otherwise stalled.  Usually does it at least two or three times in a game.  Great to see him really using his strength to good effect like that.

A few of Trac's stats give an indication of his value to the team this season.

3rd leading goal kicker;

1st in score involvements;

2nd in goal assists (interestingly,  Melksham still leads this stat, despite missing a big chuck of the season now - shows how good he is in that department and how much we are missing him).

Yep, my mistake. I searched for a thread about Petracca along these lines but because his name wasn't in the title I didn't see it. Have asked the mods to merge the two if they wish.

Statistically Petracca has made no improvement on his 2017 and 2018 numbers. None whatsoever.

His first ten games of 2019 were poor to the extent he was on the fringe of the 22 being named on the four man interchange at Thursday night team selection. His past 8 or 9 games I would describe as being passable.

He’s a number 2 draft pick in his fifth year at the level. The club needs more from him. A lot more.

I hardly think these assertions could be further from the truth.  Yes his first 2 or 3 games were a bit ordanary, but since then Trac has consistently been one of our better performers.  Asides from Max, I can't think of anyone who has been as consistently good for us.

Perhaps your perceptions of him are clouded because he hasn't regularly done a heap of flashy things, but rather just burrowed and bulldozed away in a workman like manner.

Without Trac this season we would have been even more totally stuffed.

Yeah, no worries.  I noticed someone else made the comment before I did as I was gong back over some of the earlier comments again.  Lol

He’d be consistently polling votes in the B&F, chance for a top 5 finish if he carries this form on. He’s having a good season, especially the last 8 weeks or so. Such wonderful balance and power. He’s a quick thinker too defensively in a contested situation, the strip on the Saints player last week was a ripper, even if it was an incorrect decision.

This is a load of rubbish. Demanding more out of a player because of the position they were taken at in the draft, something they have no say in, is bollocks.

Goodwin: “Look ‘Trac, you were taken at number 2, we need more from you.” Pfft.

FGS Ethan you know not to feed the troll

He's been one of the positives in a poor year, he is starting to get confidence in congestion and use his core strength, he generally makes good decisions with ball in hand and outside of set shots has good disposal

Continually hear people talking about Petracca's upcoming 'breakout game' which never seems to eventuate, and I feel like that impacts their opinions of him.

He's quietly putting together a very good season and has steadily, albeit not linearly, improved over his career.

Consider this for 2019:

Averaging 18.2 disposals, 2.6 tackles, 2.1 clearances, 4 marks and 1.2 goals. (Importantly for us, handballs more than he kicks also)

Ranked 11th in the league for total tackles inside 50, despite playing some midfield time.

Currently rated 5th in the league for forwards, ahead of players like Stringer, Charlie Cameron and McDonald-Tipungwuti.

And last time I heard the stat reported this year, he was the lading player in the league for winning ground balls inside 50.

For a team with such a disconnect going forward, he has shown enough effort and talent on a consistent basis to be given a bit of credit from Dees fans. We can all be a bit hesitant to give any praise during a horror year like this, but I feel he deserves at least a modicum of encouragement for improving against the odds.

Well said Lord Nev. I wasn't aware of these stats. Petracca has been more reliable, much more aggressive and more effective this year. His bullish work and ability to break tackles and find space from the contested ball has significantly improved. Several memorable goals have resulted from this. Promising development.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
