Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Our press is far too high. That's reason 1..100 of why we're terrible this year. Reason 101 is that we don't know how to slow the game down when we have to.

We've been trying to do that more over recent weeks but when you're forward line is bereft of marking targets because they're all injured it makes things a bit difficult. Hence the turnovers.

Just because Goodwin did an apprenticeship under Roo's doesn't mean he actually learnt anything....he has moved further and further away from that game style and structure we used to play since he became the coach.

More apprentices end up being nothing more than bum employees than success managers.

Every other coach including the top teams have dealt with the 666.. if Goodwin hasn’t he should sacked...pure & simple the game evolves & coaches need to adapt. Roos implemented to work both ways ... what’s happened to that foundation???

Strategy and game plan is not only the coaches jobs Craig Jennings is the strategy man, he has not been able to adjust the game plan with the 666 rule, Jennings has to go, just like essendon did with neeld he was the strategy  and game plan man. this is not the 80's where the coach was the main man, Jennings should have gone mid season.

Goodwin is lost, Jennings is lost, the players look lost, the Leaders are not leading, the club is sick and has been all year.

Players in the press basically admitting no one has any idea whats going wrong, Max saying they are a long way from a  basic AFL team, Lever saying they fundamentals are not there.. its just bloody embarrassing, it really is, its a total unmitigated disaster and no one can arrest it.

It goes without saying that massive team structures and coaching gamestyle need Urgent attention.

Players , coaches, support staff , ALL are on notice.

We would want to see instant successes next year. If we serve up the same rubbish next year, I reckon Goodwin will be gone by about round 4-6.

Goodwin did far more of an apprenticeship under Hird and Thompson... Pedigree stuff eh ??

Curiously  Macca is a common factor too

If you can’t run - speed and endurance - and can’t reliably hit targets and don’t have big men to create a contest then you can’t create any kind of game plan that works.

Watch the first 10 minutes against the Saints where we were full of confidence and trusting the plan and we looked very good. As soon as fatigue and doubt crept in the side dropped away.

I like your first paragraph.

As for the first 10 minutes v Saints, that was simply due to Gawn dominating.  As soon as Marshall neutralised him, we were shot.

Great post. I have been pretty supportive of the club and our coaches and while this year has been an on field disaster I'm still confident this year is an abberation. This said if we're in the same position again next year heading into the bye then Goodwin will have a tough time keeping his job.

I reckon we will see some significant changes in the Footy Department at the end of season along with players.

My issue with seeing this year as an aberration is that it doesn't prompt change. We need to see it as a trend that requires change otherwise we won't improve.

We have the arrogance of Hawthorn yet the record of a minnow. We can't afford to "hope" this year was an aberration. You don't finish 17th by chance. We need to make big changes this offseason. Otherwise I can't see us making finals.

Yes exactly. This is not a “chance” situation. The problem needs to be isolated and removed.

I am hoping the Darren Burgess appointment is the main issue fixed. But anything else needs to be sorted

Not sure if a trend but often when we jump out of the blocks, start trashing the opposition and score heavily for about ten minutes we then proceed to fall apart. Has happened quite few times in the past few of years. The saints this season as well Adelaide and Port. Last season it was the Saints again and Hawthorn. GWS did to us the previous season as well as few more I can’t remember.

Speaking about north melb. Imagine a club having a 10 year coach who apparently leaves mutually with 18 mths to go. If mutual why not line it up?

Then the caretaker wins 4 from 8 and they appoint him.

Sounds like a rabble if a club.

And they might have to pay 800k for Scott. Good lord

Great post. Pert can start with firing the recruiting staff and poaching recruiters from a club who get it right. Start with Geelong, West Coast and the Dogs.

Goodwin will be a memory by round 11 next year if it looks like finals are a pipe dream again.

Frankly I don’t like his chances even with some radical changes in on and off field personnel. Just looks out of his depth.

MB...im not convinced the recruiters are our main deficiency. They simply showcase and catalogue those that are provided. The Coach and his gang of clowns are the ones who then go shopping. Id the Recruiters are rounded up and headed in a particular direction...concern yourself possibly more with those giving said directions..it's just a view  ;)

I do concur that I have seen nothing from the coach(s) to suggest they are dealing well with their situation.....more akin to flailing in the quicksand.

Finals in 2020 are already a pipe dream imho. At best all that would happen is an attempted reboot of the latter half of 2018 to only end in a similar demise...but happening before the finals of 2020.

We have the wrong idea about how to play footy...and we bring , in the main , the wrong cast and kit bag to complement this ideal.

I will, though, look on with great interest to see what we DO do over the off season. Maybe our future will look clearer then. All I see is a swampy mist at present. ( need to drain the swamp )

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
