Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Perfect time for the Club to fire a shot across the bow.

Drop Viney or Brayshaw, maybe both.

It is so unfair to be dropping the usual battlers who do not have much talent to begin with all the time. We need to drop back a few players with top line talent who are not performing their role to the required standard. What is fair for one is fair for all.

I think they will keep Billy on for one more year. Apparently one of the most professional players on our list and coaches love him. Unfortunately the last 2 years he hasn't had a good ran at it due to injuries.

Honestly rather Stretch getting games on a wing then the Wagner's.

Agree.

Honestly, I am at the stage now, where if they keep picking our mate, I don’t want to go or watch. I don’t like picking on a kid who is doing his best, but this is a ruthless business and I don’t understand why we play one short every week, unless we want pick 2, which we seem to have secured.

When the turnovers come down to skill errors and poor execution (eg Salem's floater to Brayshaw) I think that comes down more to execution than gameplan.

Goodwin has things he needs to work on too and if he doesn't he'll have a short coaching career but it's hard to blame him for the constant turnovers and skill errors.

Sure, but at the same time, you're talking about a pretty significant change to the way the game is structured with 6-6-6, and a team that has seen both collective drop off across the boards, of perhaps among the greatest drop offs season-on-season after finals of all time.

All year, we have looked more like a poorly coached team, than a poor team. Gold Coast are a poor team. Earlier in the season I remember someone here posting that they couldn't tell if we were playing bad or we were just trying really hard for no reward. Or if we were simply just a bad team. It is extremely difficult to put your finger on.

Goodwin's press conferences the past two weeks have been his most honest of his coaching career, but also his most damning: three years into his coaching career, his team's skill are getting progressively worse, they are being utterly smoked in final quarters, and there is zero -- ZERO -- mention of gameplan. Why? Because the actual fundamentals have gone missing.

How does a team lose grasp of the fundamentals to such a degree that it allows almost 100 points from turnovers, can barely score, can't transition, can't rebound, can't defend, can't tackle, and on and on? Skill errors are one thing. But I don't think skills are a catalyst here. They are very clearly a symptom of a complete systematic breakdown. That is down to the coach.

God here. Sorry to disappoint but you are this bad. I'm normally a compassionate God but when it comes to the Dees ... I just go back to my Old Testament cruel and vindictive ways.

Oh, and I've got some more bad news for you, GCD,  but not for another 35 years. (It's not too late to repent.)

Problem with Stretch is he exactly the same as ANB. Great trainers, professional attitude, tireless workers on the field, and not very good at football.

Keeping Stretch also raises the issue of the 4 injured amigos... AVB, 2 Smiths and Stretch... can we afford as a list to have four NQR players who are injury prone. Add in KK and that's 5. Put's immediate strain on the list.

Apologist number 2 rears his head.

You clearly didn't watch.  We were putrid. Gifted them 14 goals. We were 3 goals up after 3m and were hammered in nearly every stat.

They’ve hit the post 3 times and missed several other easy ones.  If the Petty gift goal had happened to us, Demonland would be in meltdown. I also thought scoreboard flattered us to the tune of about 4 goals. They’re crap, in fact they asked for a Priority Pick 2 weeks ago and they were 7 goals better than us.

Sorry, did you make a typo. I assume you mean Twiggy Lever. His turn overs directly cost us 4 goals. Pathetic. What was the losing margin?

Our highest paid player can't hit a target 25 metres away. Gets a free pass.

You can’t have it both ways. Surely you would argue that Lever’s got an excuse because he’s missed a pre season.

ANB, Oscar McDonald are two players the club needs to be trade off or delist (ANB OOC this year). Grab some late picks and go to the draft and get some fresh talent as its quite obvious now we are miles off being a top 8.

The likes of the Wagner's, Smith, Keilty, JKH will all be delisted.

Don’t assume this club has the common sense to ditch some of these players they just resigned ANB the ball butcher.

Don't just say it, show us the difference.

FWIW I think our lack of skills is part of the cascading effect which stems from being underdone at season's start, unexpected losses undermining confidence compounded by some players poor form and others' seasons interrupted by injury, resulting in more losses, less confidence and diminishing skills. But I could be wrong.

Anyway, I am interested in you elaborating on the above comment.

Sorry, but AFL level skills are not lost in some having a shortened pre season. We are talking basic skills of hitting a player 30 metres away or up until this week kicking set shot at goals. The only genuine excuse is the recruiters chose players with some AGFL attributes and not others.

Agree on all except Oscar, who was terrible last night.

Went back and looked at some of the games last year and he was ok. Is he just having a poor season or is he not up to it, I am unsure

I would like to see him tried up forward, to see if he can do anything there. I still think he needs another 5-8 kgs of muscle and that would be a priority if I was in charge. I think extra muscle would boost his confidence and give him every chance to make it.If that didn’t help and last night became his norm,  well then he would be gone.

I am now worried about Baker and Billy, who I like, but has too many injuries and when playing doesn’t get the ball enough.

Anyway we have some interesting decisions to make soon.

You're unsure of what is blindingly obvious??

hes no good and never has been.zero intensity or attack on the footy.but if you can't see it after this long there's not much help for you

If there is too much heat that he can’t pick up the ball then try to tap it out to advantage. No he has to eat like Jones’s used to when playing inside.

I cant believe we still don't get this part pretty much as a team with a few exceptions.  We watch other (quality) teams tap or kick the ball out towards their perceived or 'seen' fellow players weekly so the tapee or fellow player can run on to it or kick / tap it further again (it's called gaining yardage Goody)  yet, apart from Gawn and Jeffy (from memory), our blokes are hell bent on taking posession at every opportunity and getting immediately tackled for another bruising contested ball up / stoppage.  And guess what, we then look to do same again if we feel any heat, which we do as we don't maintain outliers around the stoppage, too many going for the ground ball always which encourages the opp to bring an extra to the ball to either sweat on this inisde mess or sit him on the outside for the recieve once we tire and they begin to get on top on the inside as well as the outside.

An almost fully fit available list might improve some connection skills, but certainly won't change aspects of the 'style/manner' in which we do or don't do the every day things needed to gain small advantages in a match.

The way we structure up (or don't) and maintain it (or don't), including other basics like getting smaller / medium crumbers front and square, not having 3 to 4 defenders up in a marking contest, ensuring your two key tall forwards make clear separation on running patterns instead of getting in each other's way, and the above possessin obsession style etc etc lies with Goody and his methods.

Won't win you many games of footy on the trot and very easy to counter and defeat as an opponent, but certainly a fabulous looking dog's breakfast.

For those talking about injuries, missing games etc.

Lets agree that yes, we have, especially in the back 6.

But, our best have played. Oliver, Gawn, Tmac for most of the year. And going by last year, Harmes, Brayshaw, Salem who were also good. They have played most of the year.

But let’s face facts, getting the ball, not much of a problem, skills, massive problem even from those who are our best users of the ball. Our problems have been this. We get it into f50 lots, we score very little, they get it into their f50 usually less and score much more. And they do so very very easily.

Goal kicking, not a new thing, we have been poor for years.

Desire to gut run defensively. We run in beautiful waves forward and jog backwards.

Game plan, last year Goodwin had a great plan with the extra players off the back of the square. This year, no idea.

Wagners both need to be dropped and not played again, our problem is our bottom 6 players are trash, Wagners, OMac, ANB, Baker and Smith were absolute rubbish, it’s the difference between winning and losing! Baker is young and will be a good player, the other 5 are not worth persevering with!

I agree with your assessment of those five however what I am saying is why are some of our stars not held to account for not playing to the best of their ability. At least the Wagners are probably playing to the best of their ability.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
