Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ

I think it is a super location.  We are the MELBOURNE football club, after all.  Lets be as close to MELBOURNE as we can be.  We can still have outreach to Casey and the Cranbourne corridor, but lets own the brand MELBOURNE and live it.  In reality, it is a very short walk from RIchmond station, a tram or train ride out from Flinders St, and on the Punt Road corridor for buses.

Not even Yarra Park is good enough for Deeluded.

Now we will have 10 years of long winded essays that say very little.

Jolimont is fantastic if we can build our own place there

Short walk to the Hilton for after match beverages....

Its a better location than the pies base in terms of access.

As close to Richmond station and indeed the Swan st tram route (75?),

There is a railway station right there that links to the north and city (and therefore the west).

Throw in the multiple Punt road bus routes and the fact it is only 10 min stroll though the gardens from parliament Station and it could not have better PT access options.

The Pullman you mean.

Surely we will have our own bar., which after a win would make a huge profit. Better than lurking at the g for a post match drink.

How awesome would it be to go to a dees venue right next to the g after a win (and before for that matter)?

Geez if they made sure there was a pinball machine and tab EBT i'd go there when we're not playing!

Old dee, could you please confirm whether I am meant to interpret this post optimistically or pessimistically.

Take your pick LDC. I firmly believe we will win a GF before the Jolimont thing happens. That is my priority.

I know I'm in the minority here but I understand those wanting to protect the aesthetics of the park as it is - one of the G's most endearing features is that it's surrounded on 3 sides by parkland, which is unusual for a stadium of its size and significance.

My favourite walk in the whole world is the short stroll from Richmond Station through Yarra Park to Gate 3 - the anticipation, the smells, and the trees, which change colour as the season progresses.

Having said that, this development will be on the other side of the park, so I say: let the building commence! It would be a fantastic outcome for the club.

Swan street is good enough for the Melbourne Storm, for the Pies, and the Tiges are just a Sand Iron away.

There is enormous amount of footy going public, along the Sandrinham, Frankston and Dandenong, rail lines.

I'm not trying to be tedious, just understand your point

My point is: the commercial/gym/secondary use facilities would be well placed here

Training there is not an issue - when does training occur - not when most people can hop on/off at places you've identified

I suspect (maybe wrong) most people who could attend are commuting into the city

Get what you're saying about on/off at Jolimont but where else? In any case, if you could access the gym...in early, gym, watch training, work etc (I have no idea when training is, sorry if I sound dense)

Then you've got the exec and admin arms of the club, they need to work there - I suspect a base near the G suits them better in terms of basic geographic location than the corridor you've mentioned...(depending where you are suggesting)

Point taken about having to get off at Richmond and walk there, but what's the walk from Rich to the proposed site. 300m maybe? And to Jolimont, another couple hundred?

To flip what I am saying - where else could it be taking all that into account.

Actually, put it at Trevor Barker oval or in that precinct, perfect! Just kidding - you'll only really reach a limited demographic. But then, might be easier in overcoming opposition. Who knows.

I'd have thought a base in the proposed location with all that signage frontage to Punt Rd would be very good marketing for the club.....

(Again, not arguing for argument's sake - it's a very interesting discussion!)

DV8 you are making a huge deal out of approximately 5 minutes additional walk.

For those who don’t want to walk, get the train into Flinders street and then on the Jolimont train or the tram. It will stop out the front.

no doubt your pleasant walk (and mine, i might add) gets off to a bad start though having to walk past the toiges punt road oval.

Short walk to the train, in the rain??

Short walk to the train, with little kiddies?

Short walk to the train, with people with disabilities.

Jolimont suits the well heeled, who take taxis everywhere, and do not travel on metro trains.

It does not suit the grassroots supporter AT ALL.

IF the Victorian Labor Party see this as fact,,, then they will help us to build adjacent to Gosch's Paddock.

And we can build over Swan St and the Tramlines,,, more easily than building over the Jolimont Rail line. and cheaper to do except for the apartment building.

The ground floor would be undercover car-park, maybe even 2 levels, one below ground.  So the 1st floor would reach out over Swan Street, above the Tramlines, with viewing over Gosch's.and training. It could have some membership retail area and cafe etc. The floors above, can hold the Gym, Footy Dept,  Admin' Offices, Function Rooms for meetings, Social areas, etc.

A building over Swan Street gives us passing traffic every day of the week to grow ourselves, and so easy to attend, and to leave for home.

Easy for families.   Easy for every-one along the Sth-East Corridor, who continually get ignored buy the AFL.

Lets own the STH-East Corridor.  We can if we want to.

Not decrying Gosch’s Paddock but it is a fair step out from Swan Street and there is a soccer training oval in between. Any building would have to be at the Southern end which is a fair hike from Richmond Station and (as l suggested in post #140) equidistant or further than the Yarra Park option!

It is not a suggestion of grassroots supporters vs well-heeled nor Labor/Green vs Liberal! It is simply the location with the least downside for all supporters (albeit the fact that it entails a very slight grade when approaching from a Southern direction)!

When the Melbourne Metro Tunnel is finished the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines won’t go through Richmond station.

Something to keep in mind.

With a minimal amount of landscaping those pathways should all be protected, certainly the long stretch from Richmond Station to the G won't be even close to impacted and the walk down from Jolimont should also be untouched.

The area is already used as the AFL Live site/ Grand Final parade finishing spot. It's not nearly as steep as people thing.

Agreed and certainly a lot closer to the “G” for supporters after we win a Final (or home-and-away) than the Southside of Gosch’s Paddock that the others want. It also has the advantage that it doesn’t involve supporters have to travel the extra distance post-game past Richmond station.

the one aspect i like is the commercial (i.e. revenue) aspect of siting this over the rail-line in east melbourne.

A medical centre (presumably sports med), extensive gym facilities, social club and an apartment complex (possibly other uses too) are all important revenue raising opportunities and an imperative to mfc in lieu of our now extinguished pokie revenue. the location is particularly important for commercial ventures compared with say near gosch's paddock.

it is a perfect location for commercial exploitation,  and importantly the buildings are not on yarra park lands

And the Demon shop which is currently a disaster to get to if you’re driving.

I can't imagine a max exodus from the MCC bars to pack in to a modern version of a social clubs, those days are long gone, but I can see the club offering post game drink invites to certain select members, most of whom have reserved seats in Northern Stand or are MCC members and it's the perfect location for that.

I've often thought extending over the Richmond rail corridor  near the tennis centre when the Southern Stand was redeveloped was our best chance to build an MCG adjacent facility. Jolimont is just as good and surely a simple proposition building over 2 rail lines instead of the 12 or so that run to Richmond!

Great spot in my mind. Train from Toorak to Richmond, walk to the ground and get our seats in the members then a quick walk up for a meal and drinks at the new facility (as long as they keep the prices cheaper than inside the ground) then back for the game. Got it planned already.

Don't shoot the messenger guys, but as East Melbourne resident that lives a couple of hundred metres from the proposed development, I think this is going to be VERY difficult to get up, most particularly the office component which would place a 6 story barrier between East Melbourne and Yarra Park.  The oval may be more doable but even then, the residents have been campaigning for years that Yarra Park is just that....a park.  Not a car park, not a sporting field.   Furthermore, the civil works required to incorporate a level oval on what is a quite pronounced sloping piece of parkland would completely change the nature of the area.   I'll be very surprised if this gets traction.

You have Fitzroy gardens 50 metres away.

Its either option A. We build an oval in Yarra Park

B. Bulldoze Fitroy gardens and Build over/around Cooks cottage and the actual cottage can be the coaches office

Nobody can train on the MCG. If you got there during the week you will see why. There are these solar devices that are all over the field to simulate the required sunlight that the grass needs.

Cam Schwab posted it on his twitter once.

In your dreams... The annexation of public parkland (sure we call it a car park) for an elite sporting code...

Even over in Royal Park there was enormous pushback to the hospital expansion.

Good ambit claim

Lucky you aren’t driving this with your defeatist attitude.

MFC has plenty of clout at both local and state governments. You could easily spin this as an improvement to the area and a benefit for the community

Fortunately a handful of residents don’t decide public policy. ‘A visual barrier’... give me a break. There a plenty of high rise building in the area and this would be inline with the character

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
