Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's Lyons way of trying to fire a rocket under them. He's basically saying "prove me wrong" which I don't disagree with but not sure how it's going to do much at this stage of the season. Maybe 5-6 weeks ago would've been better timing.

It might work. I think workrate has been the biggest problem. Our players often jog around the oval. Our opposition often seem to move quicker and with greater purpose.

We will see what Melbourne are made of this week. First Goodwin now Lyon. This is a must win game, don't win it and the [censored] may finally hit the fan.

The season can't end soon enough but I still think we have the capabilities to bounce back but must be a  lot fitter and mentally tougher next year the only problem is there are another 16 teams in the same position with Gold Coast being the exception they are well and truly lost.

Spot on. He’s hoping it will ring in the players’ ears. Probably won’t do much but at this stage it can’t hurt.

Yep, definitel an aberration - that's what I think whenever I see incremental improvement year-on-year over a number of years.

Sigh.

Everyone wants to have the biggest feelings.

aberration = break away from norm.

Average finishing position 2014-2017 = 12th

2018 finishing position = 4th

2019 finishing position = 14th-17th

Completely reasonable to call 2018 an aberration. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest it wasnt.

Jeez... its a been a crappy year hasn't it? I cant wait for this season to end so we can get onto the next one.

I'm still firmly in the 'Its the injuries' camp but I hope to all god that Goodwin tweaks the gameplan to stop this 'Chaos' [censored]. This bomb it into the forward line at every opportunity is [censored] horrible to watch and I said this last year too when we were actually winning.

IMO - the game plan has clearly evolved BAMF - I don't believe we play 'chaos' footy (and personally think the use of that term suits an agenda inline with this is why we are fatigued, this is why we have injuries). We slow it down, we have moments of great ball movement, as evidenced against a range of teams. Tis a shame for whatever reason a range of players are innaccurate in front of goal.

We have 3 players in particular that seem to be able to hit a target perhaps 20% of the time going i50 - viney, brayshaw and ANB - the delivery and then the resultant shots on goal are the issue.

I still have faith in Goodwin and the FD..and the fact that the FD will terminate a range of contracts within the FD.

Imagine if Lyon was relevant... It's as laughable as Molloy being outwardly disappointed on his media platform and expecting the Richmond players to somehow think they'll use that as motivation. As if they're school children disappointing their expectant parents yelling at them on the boundary line in u14's.

Yes he has. I watch On The Couch regularly and he's very much criticized how they're coached and their style of play. Who do you think he's talking about when he says those things?

Ha!! He is pretty much the cause of it for picking Mark Neeld from the start. He is the reason Roos had to come in and clean up the mess!

Can we not start this stuff again? Always find it incredibly unfair when Dees fans smash a great of the club for trying to do a job he openly said he wasn't qualified to do, because his dying best mate begged him to do it.

The loss of good depth players for not much/no return: Kent, Tyson, Vince, Bugg, Pederson

The surgeries in the off season

the belated start to the pre season

May coming in unfit

May getting suspended

may and lever not playing in the backline until rd.... then we lost our two forwards in Tmac and Weids

Forced game plan changes:

Zone defense is limited with 6-6-6

can’t run players off back of square

Not sure how much of the above is Goodwins fault. I don’t think all is lost. But bring on 2020. Go Dees

Lyon has stoked the fires

The team and Goody are under the microscope

Saints are qquietly panning away

Big, big game coming up.

For me the thing to watch will be the subtle changes to the game plan and playing styles based on the opponent in front of us.. Recently our answer to getting beaten is to charge at the ball even harder a bit like a kid thinking he can knock a wall down and if he does it a bit harder next time it just might fall.we still now have lots to play for.

We've been over this in one of the many other threads in which you post your grandiose statement about how bad things actually are.

We got better every year from 2014 to 2018. Averaging out our ladder position over that time is unrealistic, unfair and hides that truth.

This year is done and dusted.

Next year the whole club, needs to have the mindset of win every game, ever one can pick this year apart with a fine tooth comb; of why and how this didn't go to plan.

Next year if there"s more of this c$&* then Pert and co need to get to work to fix this mess.

I was going to say the same thing.  Averaging out our improvement takes away from the improvement itself.  We've shown it since 2014, and the only 'aberration' so far has been this year.

He loves doing that.

I flick past what he and 'bub have to say these days.  It's not worth your time.  It's the same thing over and over and over again.  They think the club is scarred when it's them who are instead.

Was last year the aberration?

No.

I think Garry used the wrong wording here.

If we plot the rise of the club since PJ & Roos took the helm then last year was a logical result not an aberration.

Is this year the aberration?

Who knows, it's way too early to tell.

If we make finals next year then it would appear to be.

I think Glen used the wrong wording here also.

All I know is this year has been poor for a myriad of reasons.

Injury is one but I don't buy it as the reason.

Let's hope we can get back on track & we see this year as the aberration we had to have...

Good points rjay.

I know for a fact that the internal review is already well and truly underway.  We've seen evidence of this with the coaching changes (McCartney asked to go back into a development role), but they are using these final rounds to prepare for the pre-season and on to 2020, and that goes for the playing staff, coaching staff, fitness staff etc.  They aren't sitting on their hands but being as proactive as they can to ensure that next year is nothing like this year.

The drums are starting to beat.

We all thought this was an aberration and that post bye we would start to show recovery looking forward to 2020.

Post bye has merely repeated pre bye. To bemoan no forwards when the forwards weren't kicking 5 goals a match between them is merely another excuse.

Goodwin's tenure is unravelling quickly.

I actually can not recall a bigger drop off from a side in recent memory.

Sides that either won premierships or made prelims to drop off the next season but were still there abouts were;

Dogs (2016-17)

Hawks (2008-09)

Crows (2012-13) & (2017-18)

Port (2014-15)

If it wasn’t for how pathetic the GC are we would be rock bottom, in reality we were extremely lucky to beat them. 3 of our 5 wins have been under a goal, it’s just not acceptable. This side could not be any worse then were it currently sits, it’s an absolute joke. Goodwin & co have escaped the heat so far this year, if we are 1-4 or the like in the first half of next year the clubs football department will be flipped on it’s head

Much of last weeks game was very well played by the Dees. It is only when they concentrate on not stuffing up the mistakes creep in. If they could play unthinkingly and not let their brittle confidence sway, they would be quite ok against the Saints. Field kicking was low and hard and marks were one grabbers. But second guessing late in the game is going to be our downfall, if we cant get 3-4 goals up.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
