Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He's a star. Another very impressive game. If he continues to have those sorts of performances in the finals then we are a genuine threat.

35 goals in a home and away season is an excellent effort for a 20-year-old small forward.

I left him out of my votes from last night but I regret it, his three goals were pivotal.

What an amazing player to be able to witness in the Red and Blue! So exciting every time he goes near it.

I get really upset when I see the racist rubbish that he and others have to go through (it makes no sense to me to abuse someone for how they look etc), you can see that is has affected him at times but he has been able to push through it.

Keep flying Kysaiah!

This freak of nature has just ticked over 40 goals for the year.

20 year old in his second year in the AFL system playing one of the hardest positions on the ground and he's kicked 40 bloody goals.

Let that sink in.

Not enough love going round for Kozzie I feel.
If that was Cyril on Friday night people and commentators would be losing their [censored].
3 superb goals, doesn’t waste a possession and his first involvement was sublime.

As Dazzle said, 40 goals in grade 2.
2nd year goals:

Wiz 36

Betts 21

Cyril 21

Koz already goals ahead and a superior fitness base, the possibility of surpassing them all is realistic. And that’s crazy.

Edit: I haven’t read the game day or post match threads yet, savouring them to fill in the days. Not enough love in the media or wider football world I meant.

Incredible talent coupled with dedication to his craft.

Was looking at the 2014 draft this morning (again)... it is my favourite followed closely by the 2019 masterstroke draft.

I noticed Jarrod Pickett, WA junior star who went at pick 4 to GWS. Is he related to Kozzie? Does anyone have any colour on Kozzie's family tree? I've only heard of Uncle Nev and Byron so far as they are tied to the Dees. Keen to admire the history of this incredible football surname and its relatives.

Some great research there.

Time often dampens my memories. Ie: Cyril in my mind was a very good player - not great - but perhaps that was cynical push back from the hype in commentary around him.

Eddie Betts 16 year career yields an average of 1.83 goals a game = 640

Cyril Rioli 11 year career yields an average of 1.46 goals a game =275

Kysaiah Pickett 2 year career yields an average of 1.24 goals a game at 47. (7 in first year over 14 games).

I am very excited about Kozzie Pickett and his enormous potential.

That goal against St. Kilda earlier in the season was freakish!

Let's hope Kozzie plays well in the Grand Final. I am sure he is keen and determined to show off his talents on the largest stage possible, which is the Grand Final.

Hopefully his Uncle, Byron Pickett, the 2004 Norm Smith medalist, has a few wise words for him about how to play well in a Grand Final too.

Yes I don’t want to put too much pressure on the young bloke. As a 20 year old, it’s simply amazing that he’s in the GF.  But he has an important role to play. Dogs will find him hard to match on. Duryea? He probably has done the job for the Dogs. He saved them v lions.   But Kozzzy could destroy him.
Rourke Smith could get first crack as he has the pace and run to hold Kozzzy.
No matter what … we all love you Kozzzzzzy.

In 11 seasons of football Rioli kicked over 40 goals two times.

At the end of last nights game, I noticed I was feeling disappointed for Kossie, not to get a lick of the ice cream and jag a goal or three. It felt expected in a win of that magnitude.

I then read he only had 4 possessions... and I wondered if he felt he hadn't contributed meaningfully to the win on the day.

I then, checked myself to recall that stats don't necessarily tell the influence that some one has on the game (looking at you as well TMAC)...

Anyway, a little nod to Kysaiah's work by the lads at Mongrel Punt.

DO KYSAIAH PICKETT’S FOUR TOUCHES TELL THE STORY OF HIS GAME?

No, no, no… not by a long shot.

You see, there was this other guy who used to play small forward around seven or eight years ago. Turns out he was pretty good at it. Played for Hawthorn… name was Rolly or something? Ever heard of him?

Apparently, some people used to think he didn’t do enough because they were used to looking at the stats sheet and assessing players by numbers. Players like Pickett, and yes, players like Cyril Rioli, make those numbers seem redundant.

Put it this way – Charlie Spargo has Kysaiah Pickett to thank for his goal in the first quarter. It was all about Pickett’s pressure, firstly to not give up the ghost in a two-on-one disadvantage. Secondly, his lunge at the Dogs’ defender caused an error, leading to a turnover and the Spargo goal.

There was another aspect to his game I found interesting, as well. Pickett has made a name for himself with his blistering closing speed, but if you watch the game again, as I am sure you will, watch the way he refuses to commit to the elusive Caleb Daniel. Instead of charging at him, and opening himself up to the sidestep, which Daniel does so well, Pickett stays off him and corrals him, forcing him to kick over or around him. It’s bloody smart!

Daniel has made a fool of a heap of players over the past couple of years, walking around them like they were traffic cones – not Pickett. He was well-drilled in the way he played Daniel, and the further the game progressed, the less efficient Daniel become.

The game didn’t break for Koz and it was disappointing to see him go in to his shell at times but he also never stops running. His work rate opened up room for team mates and then his defensive pressure created chances.

He can positively impact a game without touching the ball. It was strange to see him tentative at the contest for the ball because he put his body right on the line defensively multiple times.

His shepherd to buy Petracca room for the dribble goal was a thing of beauty

Kozzie's pressure and assists were important when the game was on the line.

Play the game over again and maybe Kozzie kicks 4 and Fritsch 2. Or Brown 5 and Harmes 3. Different players bob up at different times because of our team-first style.

Kozzie didn't have a big night on the stats sheet but he absolutely deserved his part in this historic win.

GO DEMONS!!

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
