Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I love him but I wish he'd get the flopping out of his game. You're good enough to just play the ball Kozzie, no need to play for frees.

Happening more and more each week. Hope someone has pulled him aside don’t think dropping or resting him is the solution.

flying for too many marks, going to ground way to often .

needs to take a look how Anthony MacDonald tipungwuti goes about it , attacks the ball stays low and hard and the free kicks will come naturally.

This is the Pickett that I was skeptical on coming into this season. Going to ground at far too many contests and just being too franetic for his own good. Just slow down, don't fumble, grab the ball first and then decide what to do after that.

Now he is given no space and closely checked. Get manhandled a lot. Missed getting frees last week as well as last night in goal kicking range. The opposition respects him. When he breaks free he’s still dynamite.

Bump. Just want to make a positive post - It's easy to forget our Kozzie is only in his second season. I continue to be in awe of the talent we have at our disposal with this young man. He's electric with or without the ball, forward pressure is off the charts and tackles to hurt. Left or right foot on the run, it doesn't matter. The way he glides across the turf is brilliant to watch. Couldn't be happier with his development this season. Hats off to Kozzie!!

Kozzie was one of a few positives from the dogs loss, he seemed to have his bounce back and thrust for putting pressure on. Occasionally he goes a little too far (pushed in the back following a chase) but mostly it causes the opposition to worry themselves into making mistakes. He did some excellent smothers and pressure acts all night. Couldn’t believe it when I heard David King suggest he could be looked at for his tackle that resulted in the concussion of the dogs player. He went low and the dogs player ducked his head, not sure what Kozzie can possibly do in that situation.

Hopefully he can improve his set shots but love watching him play.

just want to know why he’s so angry with the free kicks against and pushes/bumps etc. Aggression ok but chill a little aha

Pickett's season has impressed me greatly. His ability to create forward pressure is exciting to watch and he is one of our few forwards who can kick goals out of nowhere. He does have the occasional game where he goes missing but I'm sure he'll become more consistent when he has more experience. 28 goals in 18 games is not a bad effort for a second-year small forward.

That's not true Dr D you predicted he would be a real failure and w"would not make it" this season.

Completely different views to what has happened. Yes he can slow down and use more composure and style but nothing can takeaway his skills and ability that have revitalised our forward line and made all opponents scared of Kossie whenever he gets near the ball.

Please don't go claiming credit where it's not due. All Dees supporters are thrilled about Kossies development which is fast by any standards and let's see what happens in the next 2 months.

His best skills are unmatchable and excitement unparalleled and he is still just a teenager.

I think its a tough balance - I know Freo supporters have said Henry (in same draft) has all the same tricks as Kozzie but hasn't shown much of it in games so far and they put this down to not having the aggression that Kozzie has.

Hopefully he can tidy it up a bit - but if this is what it takes to get the best out of him, I'm not too fussed if (so long as oppositions can't exploit it)

Yeh i love the way he chases players with the ball (just hopefully with less push in the backs).

Exciting with and without the ball, a joy to watch in full flight.

I know he's not the only one doing this in the AFL, but after winning free kicks or after good tackles, just shoving the player when they're already on the ground etc. Isn't crunching a bloke enough these days?

Has officially kicked 30 goals this year.

For a 20 year old 2nd year player this is seriously underrated, and a phenomenal achievement for a small forward.

Has really found his mojo again since the Port game.

Spot on. Pickett has been great to watch this year. I thought that he was excellent today. Not only did he kick two very impressive goals, but he also did plenty of great defensive work. His tackle after May's rare turnover in the last quarter was my favourite moment of the day.

If Pickett becomes more consistent with experience, he seriously could be the best small forward in the competition.

Yes that tackle was bloody brilliant huh..

I think he has to enter All Australian talk. He won't get it, but surely he's numbers stack up with some of the best small forwards in the game?

I think he should at worst be in consideration for AA. As you said, his stats are comparable to some of the 'elite' small forwards. I think the only thing that's holding him back is his quiet patch in the middle of the year.

Either way, it probably doesn't matter given that he has age on his side. I can't wait to see how good he'll be once he enters his prime.

Wouldn't be shocked if he made the squad of 40

He’s had a good year, especially for his age, but he won’t be All Australian. Cameron, Papley, Tippa, Bruest have all kicked off goals as small forwards. He’s an All Australian of the future though if he continues this rate of development!

Betts is definitely a player I've always admired, played fair and played with a skill that basically nobody else had. To score goals from those tight angles a few times people can say it's flukey, but at his best he was doing it just about every week.

One of the consistently most intriguing battles was Jetta vs Betts and I don't feel like Eddie got the best of him too many times but occasionally Jetta would have him for 3.5 quarters, but a 10min burst from Eddie would get 3 goals and a few assists. So hearing Betts praise Kozzie at such an early stage is high praise.

This was always one of my favourite sub-plots to the larger story that was Melbourne vs Adelaide. It would always be a fascinating duel. I think their first clash together back in 2014 was Neville's break out game.

Who would you have in the team now if you could only have one of them,

Pickett or Jeff Garlett in his prime?

Garlett at his prime was something special. Basing it off Pickett's best and Garlett's best its a close call. No doubt in my mind that Pickett will surpass him very soon, but i would take Garlett's best right now only on the basis that his experience at the AFL level and playing small forward probably has him playing the role a little bit better. This is not a question of raw talent because Pickett i think has him just covered.

Pickett likes to crash bodies. That's something Garlett never had and he had even less of it in the latter part of his career. It is what could make him an extraordinary player, someday

Pickett is still learning and you would think comfortably surpass Garlett pretty soon.

Garlett kicked around 380 goals in 2 terrible teams and that is impressive by anyones standards.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
