Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Wise, seriously dude, go back into retirement.

We are rank. Time for excuses are well and truly over. We cannot possibly continue to make the excuses we do and maintain any sort of self-respect.

Other teams find a way against ordinary teams like the Dogs regardless of injuries.

And yet here you are once again, blindly defending the rubbish we serve up in the name of "Football"

The Bulldogs are NOT a good side, and we are reportedly a good team on this ground of late, and we still found a way to lose.

This has to stop. It just has to.

MAKE

IT

STOP

*dont reply with your normal common sense..... it will be lost on me in my current mood.

I love you too, ding.

And I wouldn't call it retirement.  I'd classify it as a self imposed holiday.  Done wonders for the mental state of supporting the side.  You should try it sometime.

Geez the perennial positives go missing when we're in the mud. Nothing to say I guess.

Severe lack of skill and decision making on show again. Harmes really enjoys the AFL lifestyle. Would be cool if he realised that one good season doesn't mean a lot at this level if you don't back it up. Yeh mate, your have abs and a some tough stickers, we get it.

Hey Steve.  Serious question here.

Does it annoy you that, when you post, your name is so long at the 'n' ends up on it's own line?  Feel like for someone like you it would be extremely frustrating.

Hannan came back after one average game in the VFL and hasn’t even looked close to it. At his best, he has something to offer, but I would much rather play Baker, or even give JKH one last 4/5 week spell in the team to make a case.

ANB is just too much of a momentum killer. Every move that goes through him dies a slow death.

Not sure why Jetta was rushed back?

Lewis was decent today but we need to move past him. I’d rather see Jordan or another youngster get a game. Perfect opportunity.

Petty showed a bit, which was equals parts encouraging and frustrating given how little Weideman has shown this year.

Other than that, all good.

Doesn't show up for me.

But yes, if I saw it, I would be annoyed.

I'm annoyed that you've brought it up tbh.

My kneejerk reaction is that Brayshaw is tradeable and ANB certainly is. FFS play Bedford and see what he can do and Petty had a break out game.

Still extremely raw, but there were some promising signs of Petty playing forward

Ok i will start with the positives;

- Petty was great up forward. Some good strong marks and a accurate kick for goal. If the coaching staff were smart, they would train him in the forward groups during pre season.

- Felt lik the Gawn/Preuss worked well. Preuss was close to clunking those marks up forward. I would play these 2 for the rest of the year.

- I actually thought Petracca played well along with Hunt.

-Lockhart did a good job on JJ

-Good to have Lever back.

- This is not so much a positive but i didnt mind Fritsch playing on around his body. Thinking he was just trying to get a quick goal so we could still have enough time. Btw he looked good up forward for once.. who would have thought?

Negatives:

- Alex Neale Bullen is by far the biggest joke of a footballer. i have been calling this since last year and got shut down. He KILLS momentum with his diabolical disposal and always fumbling and loaing his feet. Needs to be traded at years end. After watching Casey today, Baker or Wagner has to come in for this plonk.

- Did Hannan even play? Go back to Casey and stay there.

- Jetta.. I'm sorry but you are officially cooked. Poor poor decision by Goodwin to rush him in. I would have rather a fit Josh Wagner out there playing.

- Brayshaw, Oliver, Harmes. Definition of AFL footballers who are loving the lifestyle and bright lights of being an AFL player. Lazy, arrogant and simply refusing to work hard both ways. I wish we still had Roos who would give these 3 an absolute kick up the [censored].

- Lewis finished

- The umpiring decision against Gawn has to be by far the worst decision all year. Then for smith to drop the ball after taking the tackler on and not be rewarded is a [censored] joke.

As I said in previous posts.  One hell of a pre season required with a clean out of players such as ANB.  Winning culture required by every damn player next year.  2020 boom or bust for this club.  Supporters totally fatigued with losing culture and injury mess.  One more year like this and it is difficult to see this club keeping its supporter base.  Financially it will go backwards.  Goodwin has one year to turn it around, if not rebuild again, and this time supporters will not be as kind.

Really wrapped to see Petty kick 3 we need forwards with T.Mac out. Fritsch's kick and Jetta's fumble very frustrating could have won but didn't.

I keep seeing interviews with Players and Coaches, who all tell me the team is making errors that can be fixed up. This has been going on all year.

The errors are the same each week. They are not being fixed up....

We should have won that game. But our BASIC SKILLS are shocking repeatedly.

That is on you Goodwin....

Singling out one of the better players is an odd choice. Continues to run and put his body on the line as much as anyone, and is carrying a decent shoulder knock - mainly because his team mates keep giving him hospital handballs and kicks. I'd like his skills to be better but there's not much difference between Harmes last year and this year, in fact he's probably been as good in a lot of games.

Today was a perfect example of what has seen us rooted to the foot of the ladder, but similarly, the problem holds the answer to how we can bounce back quickly next year. The key reason we lost today was our impotence at ground level in our forwardline, both from a ground-ball-gets capacity and from a tackling pressure standard. It means that we end up doing most of our defending in our back half. This is unsustainable.

We need to be looking at what Geelong did over the last off season. They injected 3 or 4 players into their forwardline that apply manic pressure, provide x factor and generally create a contest that enables them to lock the ball inside their 50.

Due to our midfield dominance, we will bounce back quickly if we address this severe and obvious flaw in our game and our best 22.

I'd look at trying to lure 1 or 2 zippy forwards from the likes of Richmond, and then add some more class through the midfield with our first pick in the upcoming draft.

It seems crazy to say it given how poor we've been this year, but with a fit list to choose from, I think we can bounce back, but it's up to Goody and whoever our new high performance manager ends up being. The high performance program needs to be top notch, we need to be relatively injury-free and Goodwin needs to develop a more rounded and adaptable game style.

In regards to the game today, I thought Petty's marking (just as it was last week) was impressive and I like his relaxed kicking action. He's another Lever. I'm excited by what we could see from him in the future, but also over the next 6 weeks.

Petracca continued to provide a good contest in the forward half and should have had at least 2 goals today. His ball drop ensured he didn't have an easy third goal around the body. I've never seen such a skilled player fail to kick the ball around his body like Petracca does and I can only assume it's a ball drop thing. I can't remember him ever kicking a snap around his body that has goaled. He's missed plenty doing this though. Most AFL players find this the easier option, so it is a little baffling. Still, he continues to show consistency, which is all I would ask of him this season.

I thought as a team, we tried to lower our eyes a lot more going inside 50 (this is a trend at Marvel - we tend to do this more), but I think we played the wrong game style for Marvel and the Bulldogs. Due to our slow play, we allowed the Bulldogs to consistently get numbers behind the ball and make us kick to a contest. However, when we moved the ball quickly and played on, we looked a million dollars.

I liked that Goodwin finally threw Fritsch forward (he should have had three goals in just over a quarter) and May, but I think Goody has a bit to learn about game style. Knowing when to play slower and knowing when to go. For the most part, you need to go quickly against the Bulldogs and for the most part, it pays off on a small ground like Marvel.

The other thing about our game from back to front is that we are one of the only teams who never look to set up for the switch. We don't have a dominant contested markers (Max is good floating down back, but rarely gets it done on the wings or in the forward half), yet we end up being highly predictable, kicking it down the line and often surrendering possession as a result.

With May, Lever and even Hibberd in the team now, we should be using their penetrating kicking to switch more often.

I think it was @titan_uranus who was saying in another thread today that if we bring a new brand of defensive pressure to our forwardline, we will climb back up the ladder relatively quickly. I agree and I hope Goodwin is thinking similarly.

Totally agree and it was in evidence today against a fanatical supporter base.  Membership figures and all froth and bubble these days.

Ok, so we had heaps of injuries from last season a many didn't get a preseason , but what on earth happened to their ball skills , hitting targets , fumbling marks falling over FFS . Most of them can't hit the side of a barn .

i cannot see us doing anything next season at all . Lewis and Jones cannot be allowed to play in the same side , they are glacial by foot.

It appears like just about all of them choke on a kick for goal . Petty appears to have a very good goal kicking technique and I thought he did well up front .

As usual far too many AWOL , and leaving it to others to battle it out

Fair effort given the form the Dogs are in and the outs that we have.  You can see the potential in our side, we just need to get the cattle on the park at the same time.  It will happen.  Someday.

Watch us roll the Weagles up in Alice next week when Petty kicks 9 on McGovern.

I see that your time away from this site has benefited you.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
