Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

So the kick in strategy appeared to be kick it to pruess at every opportunity yet rarely did we have a crumber on the ground next to him. Carlton sharked the ball on a dozen occasions.

Man we just play dumb football at times.

There were players around Pruess on some occasions but too many got sucked to the skinny side for some forsaken reason.  When the ball spilled inside the Blues easily outnumbered us and waltzed it inside 50 again.

This is either a coaching issue or a player IQ issue for those who keep mucking up these basic structures on set plays.  Or a combo.  Leadership also.  Who is telling these guys "dont get sucked to the skinny...stay fat of your opponent!!"???

Staggering response on here as always. We had one on the bench in the last quarter, with the casualty list including TMac who had absolutely slayed them before the injury. It still amazes me that people don’t adjust their expectations despite the glaring evidence in front of them. As soon as I learned TMac was out, I knew it would be game on. But nah, everyone go on expecting greatness from an already struggling team now dead on their feet.

I thought it was a really enjoyable gritty win. Glad there’s a few on here who agree.

To be fair I thought the game was garbage viewing from minute one to minute one twenty. Our skills are so poor, as is our decision making and defensive running. The defensive running you can forgive with 3 on the bench, but what was the excuse in the first quarter?

We scrapped an ugly win with limited rotations against a bottom feeder missing their top 3 players. I am deeply thrilled to remain at 16th with yet another 3 injuries to add to the mix.

One of the worst quality games of football I’ve seen in a long time. Both teams had horrible patches and while we looked the better team for long periods, our finishing really ruined the enjoyment of good ball movement.

Not one for the highlight reel.

Not sure a narrow win against one of the spoon favourites with a caretaker coach (and short on the bench also) correlates to 'expecting greatness' for a team in the top 4 last year. My guess is people have just expected an improvement in skills, structure and game plan, and we didn't see much of that today at all. The fans have a right to still be disappointed in how we performed even though we won.

Very true. They had Kruezer on the bench for 20 and Weitering with a splattered face. They were not full of running either. And they have injuries as big as ours. No Cripps or Curnow is equivalent to no Oliver and TMac (when in form).

We're also one of the worst last quarter sides in the comp (potentially THE worst, not sure on our rank) so I don't think we can chalk up our last quarter to purely just rotations.

Apparently -84 points in last quarters this year according to commentators. I assume it’s due to no fitness base due to a terrible pre season. At least I hope so.

I'm with you Nasher. Loved it.

Thanks to kayo i watched the game from about 3:45 as i was away. Totally stoked to win. I knew though that when i looked at Demonland the vibe would be generally negative.  I was right.

We were cooked and running up and done on the spot. We could only make 9 rotations in the last. Nine. And our ruck man was completely gassed. Loved his effort but big Preussy is slow and not fit enough to ruck solo all day.

Loved the composure to get a shot on goal after falling behind and love that Hunt slotted it after making 3 critical errors in the preceding 15 minutes. My daughter asked if i thought he would kick it and i said no. Loved the fact he did.

A win is a win. Our kicking remains a huge issue (hello to those posters who said Friiter covered the loss of Watts in terms of kicking skills) and out injury curse is real. But we won. And i for one will take that.

It was a good crowd - loud especially in the last quarter, when Carlton came back into it. That horrible feeling and noise when the opposition is coming back on top of you!

Yes, but a great feeling when the final siren went with us in front.  I get the feeling that Carlton supporters were backing their team to roll us from the get go today, so denying them that makes beating them even more the sweeter.

Not that I'm not getting carried away with this win from our perspective.  For the most part, I have very conflicted feelings about how we played.  We clearly dominanted them for over a half of footy with one rotation down, yet without playing anything like our best game and also missing a tonne of opportunities to put them away much earlier.  But somewhat to Carlton's credit, they wanted to win pretty badly today, moved the ball well and their straight goal kicking kept them in the game.  The real downers of the game were yet more bloody injuries - we just can't seem to take a trick this year.

Was a huge effort for the boys to hang on in the last quarter after being down so many players on the bench for most of the game and the last quarter in particular.  I had a weird moment of part elation, part relief when Hunt slotted that goal in the dying minutes, which was quickly followed by a somewhat hollow feeling of what a realitively meaningless win it was, whilst still being glad that we had won and maintained some level of dignity, compared to the utter shame and despiration I would have felt had we lost.

Overall, I think the result and the way it came about still shows how far we actually have come compared to seasons gone by, but also typifies what a depressing and a complete sh_t fight this season has been for us.

He has still been a bit inconsistent and hasn't had a perfect season by all acounts, but overall, I think the reemergence of Jayden Hunt has been one of the real positives to come out of this season.  Was great for him (and the team) to get that little moment in the sun after such a trying year (couple of years for Hunt).

Hopefully it goes to show how fortunes can change in the space of a year.  Really hoping others and the team in general can follow in Hunt's footsteps next year and mount a huge resurgence.

so which side is more likely to get the membership bump out of today?

At the end of the day that was the only thing riding on this game.

The Carlton w@nker sitting next to me today pleaded with the umpires and then argued with everyone around us that when the ball stopped on the goal line and the 2 players dived at the ball that it had to be kicking in danger against whoever our player was as he went with his foot and the blues player went with his hand

im guessing this was in the last quarter and the player was Brayshaw , I am wondered why  a score review wasn't  asked for, the commentators suggested Brayshaw claimed a goal ?? anyone see this ?  was it or wasn't it ?

That win is a metaphor for this year in some ways, particularly in terms of supporters not understanding the impact of injury. We were out on our feet with 2 players in Hore and Petty out for all of the second half and TMac out from halfway through the third.

This interview with Hunt is interesting in terms of understanding the impact of not being able to rotate players, both physically but also in terms of having to move players around the ground to get a chop out (something Goody noted in his presser eg having to move Lewis off Murphy). He notes he had to play wing for that last quarter and Jones didn't come off for the second half, despite playing high half back which Hunty says is tough position.

Lighten up bro. If you listened to what Goodwin said re Preuss is that he's been playing VFL to develop parts of his game whoch we saw today and that the plan is to play both Gawn and Preuss in the same side.

Carlton played well and were very dangerous in the third when we managed to kick 7 goals. While we're not at our best it's a win against a side that is playing well in an even competition when we had onpy one on the bench.

I was so disappointed when Marty was injured, devastated when TMac was injured, after showing such a good return to form and confidence and cheesed off with the commentators openly talking up Carlton's chances of overwhelming Melbourne, and also barracking for them to do so. Why shouldn't we win it with three men down and the rest of the team tiring? Stuff Carlton and their supporters. We've suffered more than they have. Welcome to our world.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
