Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Is that a German WW2 Kruzer tank?

But re selections -IF Gawn plays and aggravates his injury I will seriously not renew, especially as we recruited Preuss exactly for this contingency and this is a meaningless match as our season is over.

Just like his role model big Jimmy, Maxy's heart is too big for his own good and no good for mine.  I just about had an aneurysm last week when I saw him limping off and going down the race, thinking he'd done another ACL.

I agree with others who have said it would be utter stupidity to play Gawn this week.  If he does play, you can bet his ankle will get stood on by every Carlton player on the ground.  Why would we risk our most valuable asset in a meaningless game?  Haven't we learnt the lessons of seasons and players gone by?

I don't mind @DeeSpencer's suggestion in the other thread that we mess with Kruzer's head with respects to does he play on Gawn or Preuss, but if Gawn actually plays, Mission should have his contract terminated immediately.

If Gawn actually plays (as opposed to actually doesn't play ...) it'll be because he's OK to play. Hard to see what could be problematic. Though whether he plays or not has little to do with Misson, it's a call for the Doctors and medical specialists.

Yet another blunder from the selection committee, it’s just about a weekly event. How does JKH not get a gig after his game last weekend? Did anyone outside of the selection committee see a particular reason amongst his 23 disposals and three goals that would be the justification for denying him promotion?

Whatever that reason is, it seems the Casey coach didn’t pick up on it. “Kennedy Harris was just so clean in difficult conditions… so clean with the ball, and his finishing was outstanding.”

Yeah no, can’t have someone like that in the seniors. Jeez, he might show some of them up.

The answer would be because he doesn't do it in the seniors - but then again we've named 2x Wagner so can't really run that argument

JHK is out of contact and might have his papers stamped, while I'd give him a chance that might just be the reality of it. Baker needed a week off, I also think Hore might get one when lever is right, first year guys find it hard to make it through a full year in the 1s, so nothing wrong with it if done right. There was an article on Dunkley this week so hoping to see him get a run.

Yeah cool, understand that, I was being half tongue in cheek.  But I still don't understand how we could consider cutting it so fine with such an important player.  Can't train Thursday, it's not like it's a grand final.  I love Gawn's comitment to the cause, but surely even he can see the bigger picture here?

We just need to have been in the ear of someone we need. Contracts dont mean much these days, so if a good player wants to come here, we at least have decent currency to play with (if we end up with 1,2 or 3).

You have a good point, but i would prefer we roll the dice now, and not go draft again. Our time is (well, obviously not this year) NOW.

18 year old draftees wont be the difference imo.

Free agent, AND a ready made trade. Thats our best bet i believe.

(Obs we have to take a first round pick this year, so your idea probably wins unless we trade out someone decent)

Could we get a player and a swap of first round picks and meet the criteria?

Yes, as long as we use a first round pick. We could get a player and downgrade to pick (say) 20 and that would still keep us within the rules.

*Factoring in a couple of compo picks which may or may not happen.

As long the pick is in the first round, the number doesn't matter.

Maybe we want a top 1 or 2 draft pick so are Tanking!   ?

Proof of another week in the raffle of non-intent. Very worried, once again, about selections and forced recoveries, pace and contributions so far.

This club is very poor at communicating to their members/fans.

Surely they would realise a dropping of Baker would cause a WTF moment and should have come out and said why, they were asked on twitter as to why but as usual never reply.

Not hard.

The JKH non selection makes a bit of sense if you take a step back. They know what he can and can't do and in all probability he will get some more games and a contract extension before season's end.

They want to see some other players and it's Dunkley's turn. Baker is being "rested."

The cue is officially in the rack.

On another note how long can we continue to persist with around 4-5 players with propensity to long term injuries. Sure carry one as a project but with lists being as limited as they now are something has to give.

The mandatory use of a first round pick is only as mandatory as the AFL feels it needs to be. The club can put a submission to the AFL for them to consider and if they feel it's ok they'll approve it. Haven't they already done this for Geelong and Hawthorn (or been somewhat slippery with the interpretation of the rule)?

ANB and Petty get selected on the ground so guaranteed a game?  WTFFFFFF!

Young Baker must have run over Goody’s cat and it appears JKH then threw it on the BBQ!

He got a knock to the knee. (Contact sport and all that.)

Because of a complete lack of awareness.

He came back after a year out with practically no match conditioning, which would no doubt have seriously affected his feel for the game. To expect him to be switched on in the seniors in his return game defied common sense with the lack of prep he had. It was a desperate decision from a coach equally desperate for a win.

It should not have happened.

THIS

Yep exactly we have been panicked time and again by absurd and ill advised selections over and over again.

There is NO system to our selections at all.

Max should not play Sunday with Ankle issues

Jones should not play Sunday with Calf issues

Lever should be put into cotton wool maybe for the rest of the year.

I thought Baker was OK and being our future should get an extended run in the ones

In spite of all the negative opinions of JKH he has been our best player in the twos for two weeks, surely you must reward form?

Both Wagners are not up to standard and it is laughable Oscar even gets named.

I would just like to know the inner workings of selection because to an outsider it appears all to be the stuff of Ouija boards and random guesswork!

Unfortunately it has been worse than ever this year.

I have no  idea about what the boards KPIs are for pert and so no real sense of how he is travelling as CEO. Except in regard to communication.

Communication and supporter engagement is critical for teams long terms success and viability. i would argue it is never more critical than when a team i struggling. And responsibility for communication falls squarely at the feet of the CEO.

Really it is beyond ridiculous that the Pert could publicly say we are aiming for 70, 000 members (which is fine in of itself) and then allow our communication to be so woeful. I mean talk about a disconnect.

I have been banging on about this for years now. Time for me to put my money where my mouth is. I will go to the next AGM and ask why our communication has been so poor and what they plan to do about it.

I've given up trying to understand selection, generally it defies all logic, its almost as if they are trying to do everything possible to ensure we don't win games of football. I'd half expect Max to be out this week and Preuss to also not get a game just because....that's the sort of thing we would do

I take it as the opposite, they know what he can do and won't be tempted into giving him a new contract so no point in playing him. Although, I still think they might, even if it's just so he gets the chance to pump up his value for another team to take him as a delisted free agent/trade.

Just got the 2019 membership survey email, best thing will be to let them know in that too. Only a small section of the member base goes to the AGM, but I'd guess over 50% might complete that survey.

The member survey just arrived via email. There's quite a chunk on club communication.

I suggest you (all) have your say on the matter.

Just a word about the Emergencies. They are not the "next best four players" after the 22 have been selected. Rather, they are a ruckman, a defender, an onballer and a forward. On that basis I assume Preuss and OMac will fill the first two slots (unless Preuss comes into the side in place of Smith). Dunkley or C Wagner are likely to be the "forward emergency" although C Wagner might be the onballer. I suspect J Wagner will come into the side if Hibberd isn't ready. And I still have no idea why JKH hasn't been selected.

Completely agree. I have lost count of the attempts we've made to bring his form in the seconds to the seniors team. He hasn't been able to do it on any of the occasions, and shouldn't have his contract extended.

JKH never performs when brought into the senior side. He's probably not the worst of the lot, and some of the current group could do with more time in the seconds, but keeping him on when he just can't convert his Casey form is cruel and denies the spot to someone else who might be able to. It may be that he's only good enough to play with the seconds, big fish little pond sort, and that's ok.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo
