Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A loss to Carlton ...

No, no, this is good!

Maintain the insignificance so we get Sunday arvo games on Mother’s Day against GCS

Yep, I love no queues at the gate or at the beer counters, sleepy security staff paying more attention to the one - legged seagull than the bag they’re checking

The rostering of footy commentators that lament getting Dees’ games, knowing full well they’ve got to trump up the excitement through their calling for the 25 people watching at home

No, a loss against Carlton wouldn’t matter....why would anyone want to disrupt this serene, idyllic picture of mediocrity?

I agree, its been to bloody crowded.

Freo were prelim finalists in 2015 and then were firmly entrenched at the bottom of the ladder after 10 rounds in 2016, only to finish 16th at the end of the season:

Let's hope and pray we don't hold this record by the end of the season.

Heads must roll if we lose this and begin competing for the wooden spoon with the Bad News Suns. If not Goodwin then a slew of names within the footy department responsible for the debacle.

This situation is a disgrace to the Melbourne Football Club. To its history, to those who once toiled to make it great and to the loyal members and supporters who help fill its coffers.

The people responsible for this disgrace are not fit to represent the jumper. They should hand in their resignation papers tomorrow.

This is as bad as it gets people.

Wake up.

Rubbish - think of the talent we could bring in via the draft. FWIW I think we will lose to Carlton and lose well. Dees!

People are worrying too much.

We will finish 14th this year, ergo, we must beat Carlton.

How do I I know we will finish 14th? History!

1998 - 4th, winning two finals. 1999 - 14th

2002 - 6th, winning one final, 2003 - 14th

2006 - 7th, winning one final, 2007 - 14th

On only one occasion in 25 seasons (including 2019) will the Melbourne Demons have won a final and then not finished 14th the season after.

That would be 2000, where we finished 3rd, made the grand final, and the next year finished... 11th.

But that hardly defeats the theory.

Win a final. Finish 14th.

It is the Melbourne way.

If nothing is done about leadership during the off season the club can go begging for membership.  Totally bored with same old messages coming out of this club.  Apologies to Peter Jackson.  Jacko was no nonsense and his departure cannot be underestimated.

We have too many triehards on the list that never live up to expectations, coaching seems stuck in a boring mire.  Our leadership group needs inspiration,  Jones and Viney are good ordinary leaders but that’s it.  FFS MFC inspire your supporters, get some grunt and get the club out of boredom land!!!

Mark my words, Carlton will absolutely pummel us. I'm talking 10+ goals. They are due. And so are we. You can just smell it in the air. They are playing confident football and have played good footy at times this year. We are uninspired, down on confidence, poorly coached, and inept.

Jumanji drums will be beating for Goodwin this time next week.

Part of me now hopes they do. Maybe the club might start taking steps so that next time we almost win a flag we dont win the spoon the following year. Damn disgrace.

Carlton will hand our backside to us on a plate.  They have an interim coach who has them up and about.  We have our bums dragging on the ground with same old platitudes from our coach who seems to be struggling.  I like Goody, however he cannot get our list performing to their best.  It’s a worry, and a loss this week will intensify the gloom around the MFC!!  Has a football club at AFL level ever been as predictable as the MFC?

A slight drop this year was to be expected imo. I think my early year predictions had us anywhere from 15th to 12th. But that was based more on the competition evening out and more teams improving than falling off. And just the general trajectory of a young team  However what we've seen is a few improve (Brisbane, Adelaide) a few stay the same (Port, Bulldogs, Swans), and then two majorly drop off in Hawthorn and Melbourne. Except our drop off is far greater than anyone could have expected. Good teams just don't drop off this much. Regardless of the circumstances. We may be looking at a 2002-2003 Daniher-esque rebuild.

What’s the bet not only do we lose but Goodwin is out coached by the blues coach.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all.

The players will probably be thinking we just need to turn up and we will win, it’s Carlton after all. Ha ha ha.

If we lose to them without Cripps and what was an in form Curnow it’ll be interesting to see Goodwin’s response. We lost to an in form St Kilda early on when we were really struggling. But we haven’t lost a “coach killer” this year. Mainly because we’ve been so bad the only game in that category would be either GC or Carlton. Although we were extremely lucky to beat the suns!

IMO Goodwin is safe this year and there’ll definitely be coaching changes. A fitness team overhaul also to happen. A loss to Carlton will bring embarrassment though. That’s for sure.

55 years of misery continues... followed the club since the 70s & seen so many false dawns. Just don’t know why the MFC can’t sustain success & find a way to fall of the cliff!

Does it really matter that much?

It's not like a win is going to change people's thoughts about us.

The people who think we need to rebuild aren't going to stop calling for a rebuild.

Let's focus on playing a more sustainable brand of football.

That’s the thing ..  a win does matter as it creates a winning culture, which this club has lacked the best part of 50+ years . It’s a disgrace how this team had fallen in a heap once again..

Agreed. I'm certainly not advocating for tanking and want us to win every game from here if we can.

But hyperbolic posting about how the club is going to fall apart if we lose to Carlton is just that, hyperbole.

On recent form Carlton are the more in form team. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the "bound by blue" forums (or whatever they are called) have a "If we lose to Melbourne" thread going about how embarrassing it would be to lose to us right now.

CFC have been licking their lips for weeks waiting for this game.

They would not only have penciled in a win, but probably toyed with the idea of going over it with a biro*. (Yeah im old)

A loss, or even a narrow win means not much to me tbh. We are actually that bad. With the 2 outs they have, we would need to win by our years combined score total for it to inspire confidence. Not gonna happen.

MFC is broken. Humpy Dumpty broken.

Given that Carlton has a better percentage than us and has performed no worse than us this year I don't really see how a loss to Carlton changes anything in this disgrace of a season. Our coach has a longer contract afforded to him than the queen of England so he ain't going anywhere.

Would just be another of a long list of shameful losses.

If any action should have been taken, it should've been after St Kilda beat us by 40 points on our turf. That was as low as it gets.

I'm only repeating what's already been said numerous times: how can so many of our players have gone backward 're their 'ability'.  TMac, Gus, Viney, Trac, Fritta, Weird, ANB, ... Not one player who was on our list last year is playing better footy this year (save for Max who should win the Bluey Truscott in a canter). Keep Goody by all means, but sack all bar Rawlings. And we'll be worse next year regardless of any changes - there's zip coming through. I'm gutted (50 year member).

Bailey Fritsch is a forward and is being played down back, out of position. The forwards don’t have enough quality players for the opposition to match up on currently with Melksham injured, Hogan gone, Preuss inexplicably not being played (at least he would take some marks and/or draw a back man of the opposition to match up on him even if he was just plonked into the forward fifty and probably would kick some goals). This means the opposition backs can prevent our forwards marking or getting into a good position. The current forward structure is the worst in the AFL. This is why we are losing every week. If there were more quality players in the forwards and also if our players felt free to have a shot on goal instead of hand passing to a player who is about to be tackled (wrong game plan) then we might kick some goals and win some games.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
