Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Playing Gawn would be the most mind-bogglingly stupid decision we've made this year.

The only thing that's mind-bogglingly stupid is making claims about players' injury status without having all the information at hand or the competence to assess such information.

Gawn still in doubt. https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-07-04/star-demon-still-in-doubt-as-final-fitness-test-looms Ankle still very swollen.  Will be tested again on Saturday.

Lever will play VFL.  Goodwin:  "We just want to ease him back into it."  Should have done that a month ago rather than bring him into AFL on barely a full game in over a year.

I'm no medico but when I saw the angle that Gawn's ankle was bent to and ,considering his weight, I immediately figured he was a scratching this week.

FMD, I cannot fathom how he was ever any chance of being considered!!

Despite our [censored] poor performance changes are tricky this week.

Our mids were ordinary but I cant see any of them being dropped.

Our forward line was [censored] but with Preuss a likely inclusion for Gawn, Smith's neck has probably been saved.

Similarly Petty will get another crack because Lever has been ruled out.

Some above have called for JKH but I don't reckon he's up to it. Dunkley ? I'm not sure if he's ready.

One of this site's very good judges of young players @Return to Glory has nominated Toby Bedford for a go.

I'm really unsure what magic the selectors will come up with - it will be interesting - and who knows there maybe a surprise.

One thing for sure, if we are rolled by my ( and many others)  most hated team then serious [censored] is going to happen.

I haven't read everything here as Ins and Outs discussion is erratic... but I can't ignore talk of dropping Oliver or Viney without some response. Viney was incredibly good just one match ago and was one of our better players last week. Open your eyes!!!! As for talk of dropping our most prolific talent... ffft!

It will not be an easy game but no better opportunity to give Toby Bedford a run.

Ta BBO. You're being overly generous. And it is tricky this week. I would like to see Bedford given a run (I don't think he will be) but I'm not entirely sure who makes way. I don't think ANB was as bad as what others thought but I probably was more critical of Hunt's game. I just know that once the ball hit the ground in the forward half Brisbane routinely waltzed it out. And someone mentioned that it's been a long while since we had that manic forward pressure. They mentioned Ricky Jackson and  Farmer but my first port of call for forward pressure is probably Aaron Davey. You could make a case that he changed the AFL in terms of that containment of the ball in the forward line. I'm hoping Bedford (yes, indigenous and with the innate awareness that seems to come with it...forgive a bit of stereotyping) can replicate those traits. Wouldn't be the worst thing to have Aaron mentor someone like Bedford or Spargo for that matter. I don't think I've quite meandered as much before so forgive me.

Lever playing VFL this week, so what will the changes be?

Do we think Casboult will play fwd? They'll have a very small fwd line if not.

Makes me think we'll bring in either J.Wags or Lewis for Petty. Purely because of match ups.

What does everyone else think?

Well I would not play Lever at all!! I would cotton wool him for the rest of the year. But what do I know?

Secondly I would not play Max under any circumstances unless this was a Grand Final ( Laugh ) which its not

Lewis for Petty

Pruess for Max

JKH must be rewraded for two outstanding games for either Hannan or ANB

Maybe Dunkley to debut just to see what he offers for either of the above.

Inclined to agree in respect to Lever and Gawn. What's the upside?

Hannan came straight into the ones after his long out.

He did show a bit last week so I reckon they’ll stick with him in the hope that he’ll recapture his form

He got a knock to the knee. (Contact sport and all that.)

Bone bruising in itself shouldn't cause a player to go back to VFL after just a few weeks out.

Its worth remembering he didn't even play a full VFL game.  His first was for about 2 qtrs and in the second he sustained an ankle injury.  Hardly ideal prep for a full on AFL game.

I wasn't taking a shot at the Club.  Listen to Goodwin's press conf.  He says Lever has had a long time out of footy and they want him to get VFL form.  It sounds like he wasn't ready for AFL be that for match fitness or form reasons.

I'd name Gawn with no intention of playing him, where's the harm in that? Preuss emergency, make the swap 90 minutes before the bounce. Carlton would be 90% sure Max won't play but why make it 100% for them? Kreuzer may as well have to prepare for both opponents.

Thinking about it as the week has gone on I'd rather see Angus Brayshaw play half back than bringing in Lewis or Wagner again.

Petty out, Gus back, Dunkley in.
JKH in playing half forward/wing, Hunt stays in the forward line more. Take your pick of Hannan or ANB out. Drop both and give Corey Wagner another go if you like, doesn't really matter.

Because of a complete lack of awareness.

He came back after a year out with practically no match conditioning, which would no doubt have seriously affected his feel for the game. To expect him to be switched on in the seniors in his return game defied common sense with the lack of prep he had. It was a desperate decision from a coach equally desperate for a win.

It should not have happened.

And he has been practically useless in every game. FFS the whole idea of bringing in players after a long time out, with little to no match seasoning in the 2's is something we should have grown out of as a club a long time ago.

Im really shitty at the club for our desperation selections this year.

The season is over, so just pick players who have shown SOME sort of form before gambling with players returning from long lay-offs.

We’ll find out soon enough i guess BBP, the video showed him pointing to the area then walking off without saying the extent.

For what it's worth re Toby Bedford. this was written on ESPN end of last year: Bedford's point of difference is his pace and agility with ball in hand; he can often be found running 30m at a time before disposing of the ball. He is in the conversation as one of this year's fastest and hardest to catch with ball in hand. His tackling is a strength also, racking up at least six tackles in each of his past four matches.

With clubs showing in last year's draft they'll pay a premium to acquire players with speed, Melbourne will need to nominate Bedford in the national draft with a bid likely to come in the second half. Bedford's game bares some likeness to Lewis Jetta with comparable speed, agility, slipperiness and desire to take on the game with his pace.

I would love to see him get a run before year's end.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
