Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So, you're saying that during a game is not the time to have 'heat'?

Bizarre.

I’m saying that during a game players make mistakes and you can’t go abusing your teammates every time they do.

Having a chat about what your teammate did wrong at 3/4 time is fine. Being aggressive and being distracted from the play because of an argument with a teammate is probably not great leadership. I was happy enough to see May chat to Frost at 3/4 time but still not a great look that a teammate had to step in to separate them.

Who said it was 'abuse'? What did he actually say? How was he distracted? He didn't stop him and start telling him off during the play.

May is a former club captain and a high quality defender, if Frost is doing something not in the team rules then he's going to set him straight. During the game is the perfect time to do that so that Frost will know better next time.

I love Frosty, love that he's unique as a player and he seems a great bloke, but geez if we're going to start to tell our leaders to start reigning in their passion then we're only going further down the path of insipid efforts like those displayed today by so many.

Not wrong but May's frustration highlights how poorly our coaching team is developing these players. Frost flies into packs and just randomly punches it. Zero strategy. Just chaos. 2-3 times a game it goes direct to an opponent. Today May lost his [censored] and held him to account. Make the opponent feel it, and get the ball to a position for your rovers to win it. Or hit the boundry/behinds. Frost does neither. And today appears to be the first time ever that Frost has been told not to punch the ball to nothinginess like an under13s player.

Frost is a smart footballer that plays dumb. May is exactly the time of teammate he needs.

May also does this and spoils teammates, he still hacks the ball at times and some of his disposals in the 3rd quarter were shocking. He also double fisted on a couple of occasions when he easily could have marked.

None of us know what was said, but May had plenty of areas for improvement on todays game.

There was that awesome moment in the last where Frost and May both went up for the spoil and came down eyeball-to-eyeball and football practically froze. For a genuine moment there I thought we might all have something actually interesting to talk about.

Big stretch to be whacking him straight up to captain after the disgraceful condition he turned up to the club in for pre-season, but he is settling into his role well and I would be looking at him being in the leadership group next year. I also liked him getting angry and giving Frost a bit of an on field roast, we don’t need primary school teaches that will give gold stars for doing the basics correct, we need a general there and he can definitely be that.

Amazingly after the awful start our defence had to this year it is starting to feel better down back. Though still got some NQRs with footy brains the size of grain of rice.

It looked like a team rules thing.  May lives by them, Frost cant remember them.  May says “punch to the boundary”, Frost says “what’s a boundary? - see ball go fast get doggo treat”.  May wonders for a moment why he wanted in at Melbourne, and remembers the preseason pasture.  Loses bottle for a moment, then realises that Frost wont notice that May has emptied his minibar at the hotel, so lets it all go and plays nice.  Even gives him a low 5 after the next contest, to which Frost thinks “Who is that guy, does he have any doggo treats?”

Enjoyed the spray. Frost will have been over it five minutes later and the only reason there's complaints about it going on for so long is that the cameras focused on. Lewis and Melksham had a ripper of an argument in quarter earlier in the year and nobody noticed.

I don't know about captain considering his habit of getting suspended but 100% leadership group.

I just watched the replay & my concern is that when May (an experienced senior player) went to Frost to give the constructive feedback (perhaps a bit aggressively) Frost seemed to walk away without even looking at May to acknowledge the feedback.  Yes it was feedback Frost didn't want to hear.  But hey, it was valid feedback.  The punch from Frost was ridiculous & cost a goal.  In my work place if I refused to look at someone & walked away when they were trying to give constructive real time feedback, I wouldn't last long in the job.

On the MFC website, they’ve put the whole footage up - it’s pretty interesting. Frost doesn’t want to hear it at first, but then goes back to placate May. I like it.

I’m racking my brain trying to come up with one other player in 50 years of watching footy who so demonstrably and indiscreetly criticised a teammate on the field and within a quarter.

Can anyone think of one?

I can recall Ricoh used to wave his arms and look sad whenever teammates kicked poorly to him, but can’t recall ever seeing what May did today.

I’m all for players giving instructions and leading. But May needs to take the heat of the game out of it. There’s a time and a place. Frost makes plenty of mistakes. He is a high risk high reward player. May yelling at him isn’t going to change that.

May played another excellent game and I’m very happy with his inclusion. His leadership is obvious, but good leaders also need to know when to speak up and how.

Ronald Dale used to go mental at players all the time.

Breath of Fresh Air

Serious Candidate for Captaincy next year.

May has shown both Attitude and Ball Skills

sadly lacking from many others...

It’s Round 14 and the season is dead, and people are still tip toeing around.

A few more players need a serious rocket ?

Reputations mean nothing now

Blood oath. We are a pack of pansies that need some tough love. Season done and seeing Lever maybe in I would put him in the forwards this week for the first quarter to sort that useless bunch of so called footballers out. Then maybe 2nd  quarter in mid field to direct those haphazard players out. They need it big time. Back to defence for 2nd half. Job done. We win.

Yes. This club has been soft on itself for a very long time.

Maybe this will be the positive to come from this 2019 year.

Viney and Jones must be removed from the top job, they are not up to it

Being married to a hawk’s supporter means I unfortunately hear a lot of dribble about that god awful club!  Recently the newbie at Hawthorn Wingard was on the receiving end of an on field ear bashing from his team mates for not playing the percentages/team way.  Yesterday our newbie May was the deliverer of the on field ear bashing to his team mate for not playing the percentages/team way.  If you had to choose one of these scenarios I know which one I prefer.......

Not a good look and that sort of thing doesn't need to be aired in public.

Leave it up to the captain or the coach.  May has let himself down badly.  No captain should ever carry on like that and he's not captain of this club anyway.  An embarrassing moment and no justification for the outburst.

Rolls up to pre-season training unfit and now this.

He makes plenty of errors himself including short passing the ball straight to the opposition within their own scoring range (2nd qtr?)  Did he cop a spray for that?

Future captain?  No chance.  What he showed wasn't leadership ... more like coming across as being a law unto himself.

Absolutely correct, the club continues to fall, hurdle after hurdle after hurdle! Its about time we got some real serious, hard nosed leadership , similar to what May offered and has done for the past 2 weeks. Yes he turned up unfit, yep he had a drink but, sheeit the guy can play and its exactly what this club needs RIGHT NOW. Nice guys finish last and after a zillion years ( 55 odd years) in the wilderness time to get a lot of mongrel! May for Captain next year, Lever VC Max DVC Nathan Jones gets one more year at best and Viney just concentrates on footy. And buy the way Law unto themselves  types just happen to win games and take no prisoners. Ronald Dale, Lethal, Selwood, et al

A bad look seeing him yell at teammates. I’m all for him giving constructive criticism, but fighting with teammates is poor leadership. He isn’t exactly perfect. Don’t throw stones and all that.

He wasn't fighting with Frost, he was telling him about a mistake. I noticed them walking together at 3/4 time talking and then Frost patted May on the back. When Frost made a nice spoil in the last quarter, May was the first to touch hands and acknowledge him.

The guy is passionate about us and winning and obviously wants to succeed with us, as we will be his last chance of finals. He is a leader on the field and many on here have criticized Jones for not doing what he did.

Don't worry about throwing stones that has nothing to do with what happened. While Frost may have been upset for a moment they were mates again soon and maybe Frost will win us a game, doing something that May has helped him with.

Great teams and players do this all the time.

None of us know for sure what May was talking about with Frost.

It could well have been a specific thing discussed before or during the game which Frost messed up and May found disappointing.

I rarely agree with anything Leigh Matthews says but I agreed with his comment that, if anything, May might have gone on about it too long, but it's impossible to know given we couldn't hear what was being said.

I'll say one thing though: at three quarter time, neither Viney nor Jones looked like they wanted anything to do with it. Whether you agree with May or not, I find it unforgivably poor that neither captain got involved even in the slightest.

Seriously?

So May takes issue with Frosty breaking clear team rules (and the rules of common bloody football sense), but Viney & Jones who aren’t privy to the infraction are supposed to insert themselves into the situation? To contribute what exactly? Immediate honest feedback is what Frost deserved and received.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head.
