Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Margin Call: Should we trade our early pick/s?

David King brought it up on SEN this morning. Reckons we have got to decide if we’re going to back our current group again in 2020 or roll the dice on trading out one of both of our first two picks in the 2019 draft for established ready-to-plug-in-and-play talent.

Pick 3 - 6 would get several clubs to the trade table to discuss a range of appealing possibilities you would think. Pick 21 - 24 would net us a more than handy first 22 player.

Huge calls. Big calls. Which way will we go and which way should we go in our quest for a premiership while this group comes through together?

Gary Pert flagged the club’s interest in addressing the current forward line issues in an interview on SEN’s crunch time radio program on Saturday morning. Whether that means potentially dangling our first pick out there - we shall see.

Stock brokers and money men would call this an absolute margin call. Our flag hopes may very well rest on it.

Forgive me if I am wrong...

But I don't believe we are allowed to under the AFL's rules due to the fact we haven't drafted in the first round since 2015.

If we’re at the threshold (I haven’t checked), we just have to use a first round pick. Doesn’t have to be the one we started with.

ahhh I see...

So we could trade Pick 3 for a player + pick 18 and take that to the draft?

We need a top end midfielder that has speed and can hit a target, or a Half Back, or forward that have the same attributes.  All we want to hear is elite speed and skills.  We need to inject this from the draft our core group is 22-25 years old adding most likely a top 5 pick plus a mid 20's pick is what our club needs

A re-building North might seriously look at trading out Ben Brown for our first pick. People might say he's not worth say a pick 5 but if you pay slight overs and win a flag on the back of this type of trade then it becomes a steal.

Are we in it to win it or just making up the numbers? 55 years without flag and counting ...

Yeah, nah, not sure.

I doubt that the player you’d get for a downgrade from early first round to late first round, would really compensate you sufficiently to justify losing the ability to choose from a wider range of available players. You might get a role player, but I don’t think you’d get a lot unless one team is head over heels for a kid.

Also don't forget that Hawthorn wasn't allowed to trade it's first pick on these rules. Yet they went to the AFL to get omera and mitchell in and the AFL ticked it off. So really any club can get around it. I think i sort of want us to get the best talent at the draft who can kick (otherwise would have to recruit only players who can kick from other teams).

This is something that needs to be flexible

be prepared to put them up for grabs

depending on what we get in return But

also depending on how we go for the rest of the year, an open mind and hopefully open chequebook for the correct player,

and someone who can kick as well as Ben Brown.........

interesting second half of the year. Was pizzed off with football before Saturday but with that second half feel more relaxed.  Go Dees

It depends what is available, but for next year i would like to see ready made players bought in. Particularly now there is a mid season draft as well

we need to get back up the ladder and maximize what was already built

My view is it depends on the number of our pick and the available talent.

If someone like Jack Martin from the Suns is available, at age 24 we would be crazy not to trade for him given he is exactly what we lack.

Then if someone like Ed Langdon was also available I'd happily trade our 1st round pick for Martin and 2nd round pick for Langdon.

Both take us one step closer to a flag, which at the end of the day is the only thing the club exists for.

From m understanding we can trade this years' pick, but must use a 1st rounder either this year or next year.

And that's the rub, isn't it.

By bringing May and Lever in and to a lesser extent Hibberd and Melksham the FD declared that the rebuild phase is over and this is the group to launch assaults on the flag.

Our time is now. We cannot afford to miss finals action two years in a row and it would send the wrong message the players we already have assembled to draft more 18yo's that we potentially have to wait another 2-3 years on to see if they're any good.

There is a bumper crop of free agents available at the end of 2020. Win well and play finals in 2020 and we will attract further talent to the club, just as the top clubs have done so strategically well over the past decade or so.

I think it's a call we have to make. Identify the one or two players from other clubs we need to fill the key needs on the list and go hard after them, so be it if that means offering up our prized picks as payment.

Then watch us surge back into the eight and challenge for top four within twelve months. If I were Pert, Mahoney, Goodwin and Co, that's the path I'd be going down all guns blazing. ?

I think we need a little more quality depth, our front-line best 30 is still pretty good, we've just not had anywhere near out best 30 available to choose from for most of the year. If we had the chance to go from pick say 6 to swapping with GWS for picks 9/17, I'd be happy with that. They are the only team at this stage with 2 first round picks, besides the Gold Coast who will finish below us.

Keep the pick if it is very very early or if there is a particular player we are very keen to make sure of.

If it (hopefully) drifts down to the 7 or 8 range, then it becomes tradeable, though we must keep one live pick in the first round and I also think keeping ourselves with a reasonably early option is appropriate.

I'm not keen on any 'top draft pick for a player' trades unless it is a truly exceptional player. And no, I don't count Ben Brown in that category, sorry.

we definately need some quality yound kids to come in so unless we get a great trade deal we should go to the draft.

look at the diff kids make to Port.   I would like to be competing for a flag/finals for 10 years not just the next 3

Surely we can see it's the wing/outside mid that needs to be filled. Hill was at both end of the ground all day on Saturday.

Jones and Brayshaw on the wing are to slow. Baker gets lost to easily in the early stages of his career.

We need speed. Polecc, Saad, Milera, something like that...

Jayden Hunt onto a wing?

What would Ed Langdon cost us? Is he the right type of player? A dasher to be sure but skills?

The skill part is my worry. I keep seeing crap kicks and his kicking efficiency inside 50 is low (so would fit in well with the rest of our team haha). I really like his run, but i really dislike his kicking.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
