Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

How does not rating a player become delight in saying so? I’ve never understood this perception by posters such as yourself. Where do you pull that conclusion from? I can’t speak for others but I never feel that way when negatively critiquing a player.

So why do you write it? Please explain.

Misson on Oscar:

  • Key back Oscar McDonald will play VFL this weekend after undergoing a "mini pre-season".
  • "We just feel he needed to reset physically and probably mentally, and he looks unbelievable now," Misson said.
  • "He's done some great work in the gym, he looks strong, really fit, and he's done some really specific conditioning over and above all the footy work he's done.
  • "We're really pleased with how he's approached it and we're quietly confident it's going to produce some really good results for Oscar."

Just shows how missing a large part of preseason sets back the whole season.  Hip surgery can't be easy to overcome for such a tall person.  Good on Oscar for taking the program on board and putting all into it.

Some, and I am not saying it is you, just drop the dismissive terms ‘spud’, ‘dud’ and other non constructive derogatory term for Oscar and others.

I think it's unlikely that Omac (or Weed) could develop significant improved strength and bulk from just 3 weeks in the gym. But they could definitely realise the strength they already have in concentrated positive weights sessions that they othewise wouldn't have.  More likely they build self belief from the mini pre season.  When I read between Misson's lines that's what I see. "He looks unbelievable now". It's all about confidence baby.

Yes there a lot of dud and spud sayers on this topic. Love to see any of them get a kick against Oscar.

On a par with spreading fake news, such as Omac was only selected in the draft because he is tall and "his brother is good"

You need a pair to do that, I'm still waiting for the KBhero who pm'd me and said he would confront me at training, perhaps his mother wouldn't let him out

I have an opinion on players on the list, who I think have not fulfilled the potential or promise, but I would never call them a dud or spud

Besides which the FD sorts that out at the end of each season

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Ed Langdon has played 59 games to date compared with Oscar's 71. Are you claiming that Ed's a better player but has played fewer games because he's a slow developer?

OMac has been gifted games due to our lack of tall defenders. Simple

Our backline has leaked like a sieve for years and we have been in the bottom 2 for defending one on ones.  Hence our recruiting of Lever and May.

OMac may make but i can't see it.

And I guess one must ask, how much of the sieve-like leakage is due to the one on one defenders, the lock down defenders and the linking defenders vs the lack of pressure and vision from up field, mids and half forwards?

Similar considerations re the poor inside 50 retention and conversion.  Poorly considered and poorly executed delivery would make life difficult for Carey, Lloyd, Dunstall.

There have been times when the best defence in the world would leak form mere pressure of numbers.

So hanging it all on the likes of Oscar shows a bit of lack of perspective.

It is all part of a jigsaw puzzle.

All the more credit to Oscar to help us get to a prelim.  He shouldered quite a burden while being 'gifted games' especially when Tom went fwd.   'Gifted games' is really player development.  Everyone needs to start somewhere and our defence was threadbare having lost Frawley and Howe.  Oscar had to learn on the job; the hard way and in the spotlight.

We played zone defence rather than 1vs1 which may explain the low rating, why we leak like a sieve and easy to score against.  Not Oscar's fault the whole zone and team defence thing broke down.

We recruited Lever as an interceptor.  When Tom went fwd we needed a big bodied player.  Oscar's body hasn't built fast enough (bulk has to be built slowly on a young body) so we got May.  Neither recruit was because Oscar 'won't make it'.

I'm delighted the club has taken the 4 weeks for Oscar to rest, build some bulk and some confidence.  It is all about helping him become the best he can be.  That is good for everyone.

Love what the club has done with O Mac. He’s proven to be a vital player for us in the past and has plenty to offer in the future.

He’s done some terrific shut down jobs in the last 18 months, Darling the most recent only a few weeks back. Kennedy kicked 4 on us that night in Perth and we didn’t hear a peep about his opponent that night.

He will have to work hard to get back in the side and as a supporter I’d feel confident to have him back in to do what’s asked of him.

the term gifted a game really grates. Players get games because they are the best available.

Not necessarily. Sometimes guys get pushed ahead of others due to being a particular coach’s favourite, a high draft pick or a ‘project’ the FD thinks they can transform into a certain type of player. They may not necessarily be in the best form or more worthy than another bloke in the twos. This happens frequently. ‘Gifting games’ is a real thing and can be detrimental to both a footballer’s development  and overall team morale.

Vital?

This joint is out of whack. I'm all for giving time for Oscar to develop, I've never said we should delist him and I've never called him a spud.

But vital?

I mean, really.

Who did we have in the twos more worthy?  And who did we have once Frawley and Howe left?  And who was there when Tom went fwd?  Folks would prefer we left Frosty out there on his own?

Time will tell how far Oscar can go.  But when looking back lets look at the circumstances of his selection.

I hate to admit it but one this occasion I think you are right. There are plenty of examples. Watts first game ( he is the future). Pedersen being left out (he is not the future), Magner being left out (??)  Many players get games when there are others showing better form in the VFL. I suppose Lewis will get a game this week, BOG in the VFL or will the FD invest in the future? Preuss has our highest goal per game average and can play in the ruck, Tommy Mac had been in terrible form, who do we play?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
