Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

we should have a lot of room to spare.  god knows most players negotiating a new contract this year wont be getting more money based on 2019 performance

Could very well be because both Brayshaw and TMac signed new contracts last year when both were having (coincidentally) the best seasons of their careers. This could well have been a factor in us not being able to lure Gaff over in the end either.

So May and Hogan probably just interchanged salaries, but then you add on the TMac and Brayshaw increases and voila, instant cap squeeze.

Just Saw Jon Ralph on twitter ( in know, i hate myself for even typing the name) mention that why not have a go at Issac Smith and  Keep pick 2? arguably get Smith cheap, add him and Langdon and w get to keep pick 2. I think Isaac smith has a couple years in him? and have no doubt that in the Hawthorn way he will be out the door as they look to turn their list over and get younger players in.

Thoughts?

Would be 31 before next season starts, so it would be a no from me as much as I like him as a player. That would have changed had we made a prelim again, or possibly even just finals, but we potentially need to brace for us not rocketing straight back up next year.

I agree LN, i really like him as a player and i still think he has what we need, NO doubt his age of 31 is probably the defining factor and as you say, its not like we are in the window right now and every chance not in the window either next year.

Looks to me like he's lost a yard of pace or hard running, the Hawks have used him at half back a fair bit this year and he's kicking more end on end floaters than ever.

If we want a pure outside runner we'd be better off looking at Brandon Ellis who has some flaws but as a free agent in his prime could do the job.

There's plenty of other alternatives as well. Whatever we do we shouldn't involve pick 2 or go after a 31 year old.

Thanks DeeSpencer,  good intel, i haven't probably watched a lot of Smith this year, probably still thinking of the player of a couple years ago.

Not sure re: Ellis to be honest, i see him as a solid player who often lets himself down, so would fit in when you think about it!

good point but I reckon having 4-5 players on good money we should be able to absorb that and not feel the squeeze.  20 blokes on our list should be on very average coin.  I reckon there is money to spend.  Lewis retiring and Jones getting less too

Yeah, but with Jones and Lewis undecided about next year, Frost possibly due for a payrise should he re-sign and the minimum spend in the cap, it would be pretty tight maneuvering. The increases for TMac and Gus potentially could have made a 200-300k difference in total too.

Good points LN. Worth noting we traded Tyson and Kent, who perhaps would've been on $250-350k each.

Gawn

Brayshaw

Oliver

Lever

May

T Mac

all these players would be on very good money.

I dare say Lewis gone and Jones coming off a big contract will help us though.

Agree. Let’s not do what Melbourne always does through history and pick up players past their best. Or pick up players with a history of injuries.

true, but compare the amount of players at the top teams (GWS, Pies, Tigers, WC etc) that would be on very good money and we still should have plenty to spend.  unless we've overpaid the 6 above

We would be paying overs for  Viney I imagine.

Left the Hawks on good terms. Strong connections there still. We would need to pay over the odds for him to have any interest,

I don’t think Freo will deal with Hawthorn due to the fact they only gave pick 23 for him and therefore would also expect favourable treatment on the way back

I assume they paid a premium for Lever and May but we would also be paying good money for Petracca, Salem, Weed and other players in that bracket

Thats why I would be making Nev Jetta a long term offer with the Club when he retires to among other things mentor and take care of indigenous players welfare and attract more indigenous talent to the Club.

We have money to spend, Mahoney already came out earlier in the season and stated we had room in the cap.

But someone mentions on Demonland we have a tight cap and it's presumed gospel

To be fair, it's being mentioned on Demonland because various news articles have stated it.

WE already have Whelan in that role.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
