Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Angus Brayshaw to Fremantle Rumours

If the Dees don’t get bumped on Pick 2 with the GC PP. The Dees will take Noah Anderson.

If this happens, I expect Brayshaw to be on the move to Freo.

If I'm not mistaken, part of Anderson's appeal is that he is also a highly effective De Goey style forward/half forward? And can play a bit outside the contest as well?

Might be more precise to say that if the Demons take Anderson, Spargo will be on the move to Freo! :D

Flippant, for sure, but realistically, if we can't find a place for a gun kid ahead of or by shuffling around Stretch, Wagner, Wagner, Spargo, Neal-Bullen, Baker, the retired Lewis, Hannan, Hunt, T. Smith and Garlett, then clearly we are a lock for the 2020 premiership.

Another way to look at it, is when playing forward Anderson gives us everything we like (and very little of what we don't) about all three of Neal-Bullen, Hannan, and Tim Smith. Except in one body. With better disposal.

Of course, I also like having Petracca in attack, and am very interesting in seeing Viney spend time as a hunter-killer inside 50, so my overall picture has a lot of room for the likes of Anderson to rotate midfield-forward.

Angus Brayshaw

The 2014 No. 3 pick signed a four-year extension at Melbourne this time last year, but things haven’t gone to plan for him or the Demons in 2019. After producing a brilliant 2018, the midfielder has gone backwards this year and could be someone with currency the Demons look at trading. They have plenty of midfielders like him, but not enough polished outside ball users. While it remains unlikely he will move clubs, his brother Andrew, who the Dockers selected with the second pick in the 2017 National Draft, is viewed as a crucial pillar going forward at Cockburn and his other brother Hamish is currently on West Coast’s list.

How does one relate to the other?  Why would Melbourne taking Anderson prompt Brayshaw to leave?

I think the majority of Dees fans recognize we have weaknesses in midfield skill, outside run/pace and delivery forward, as well as us being in our 'window' as of now. I get that there's other areas we may debate with each other about, but I feel those things are pretty clear. So how do we improve those areas quickly enough that we can make the most of our chances now? This article raises a hypothetical that I scoffed at at first but have wavered a bit since thinking about it more.

Why trading Angus Brayshaw could fix Melbourne's midfield

"But Brayshaw personifies Melbourne's midfield issues - fantastic in the contest, tough as old boots and able to find the pill, but unreliable by foot. He has committed the 11th most turnovers in the league this year, with his disposal efficiency under implied pressure and physical pressure the second-worst and fourth-worst of the league's top 50 ball-winners."

It goes on to suggest trade scenarios which would see us losing Gus, and possibly a pick, to return Lachie Whitfield.

My questions are these:

- Is Gus 'untouchable' given we have Oliver, Harmes & Viney in the same role? Plus, with Sparrow and Dunkley potentially coming through in the same vein, others as depth etc.

- What do we make of Gus' massive form slump this year? You could argue it coincides with him attending less centre bounces, but there's other aspects to that as well such as his concussion history, his lack of accountability this year and of course, our lack of outside run which sees him being used there. Is he injured this year? Unhappy? Something seems up with him.

- Do we need to make such a big move or do we rely purely on tweaks to game plans, roles and structures in the offseason? I guess that boils down to trust in the footy department to fix things, which I imagine is at a low point given our performance this year.

Thoughts?

I'm certainly glad you are not in charge of the football department. You have no idea how to build a list

His old man is rumored to be in the running for the CEO job at Freo, while it looks like Bellend will get it, I'd wonder if Mark did make the move if Gus would then want to move to be closer to family? If that was the case then I'd be asking for Cerra and Langdon in a trade, I don't think Freo will have much in the way of draft picks if they get Kelly, even if Hill does go.

Brayshaw is a gun. Would be a big mistake to trade him.

We just need to get him back to playing the football we know he can (i.e. manage him better).

In normal circumstances I'd agree Ron. But as Lord next notes he is a poor kick and we have too many of them. And as wwsw notes he is onw of fww players with tradw currency.

The other issue is his commitment to fitness. Was dropped early last season because he wasn't working hard enough. And I wouldn't be surprised if he is one of the players  who didn't come back in great shape. His lack of two way running suggests he is not fit enough.

Well....this is it Bub, we sit here and debate who we’d like to poach from other sides with little thought to our players who may want out or are other clubs radars.

If Brayshaw asks to be traded then we act and get a top 10 pick for him. I think Hunt will seek a trade as well. People expecting a mass exodus of players are off the mark i reckon. Players ask for trades at good clubs, we have to accept its going to happen at an ordinary club like ours.  We just have to make sure we handle it well and get best price.

Gus and his manager have held a similar meeting to the one reported about Petracca to voice their 'concerns' over how/where he's being played and the direction forward in general.

Don't know anything more than that, so not suggesting he's asked for a trade by any stretch, but given the season hasn't finished these aren't the normal exit interviews, these are specifically requested meetings to voice concerns.

The gist of Petracca’s meeting was meant to be about more time in the middle. What would of Brayshaw’s been about?

It's pretty normal to have these sort of meetings particularly when there is change. When working for someone else I'd often have these sort of meetings to understand how a change eas likely to impact my compensation plan and if I didn't like response it provided a way to work towards and acceptable position.

Don't know mate, all I've been told is that they've both held meetings with Mahoney to 'raise concerns'.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
