Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Angus Brayshaw to Fremantle Rumours

Honestly, I'm just annoyed by this thread.

In form, Angus Brayshaw is a top quality midfielder with calm vision and initiative to make things happening.

Our of form, not so much. But also, crap trade value.

Trading him because of his poor form this year, when half the team has had a poor year, would be blatant and unreasonable scapegoating and foolish from a list development level as well as a team solidarity level.

Some people need to find healthier ways to manage their emotions.

Hey mate, when I started this thread it wasn't due to wanting to blame Gus or wanting to trade him due to poor form, it was actually because it was a scenario where we could think about trading a very good player in order to get another very good player/s that fitted our needs for outside skill a bit more.

If you go back to the OP you'll find it's more about asking questions (hence the ? in the title), rather than making statements. Just a topic for discussion and about our strengths and weaknesses as a team, nothing to do with 'managing emotions'.

I'd only trade if we can seriously address our outside issues. ie - an A grader in Brad Hill rather than just a B grader in Ed Langdon.

We would all hate watching Brayshaw tear it up elsewhere for years to come as he's a gun player who's currently being played all over the place and can't cement a position. This has the potential to be a seriously controversial and regretful trade, if the MFC are indeed considering it.

Blokes that have had 37 possession 3 goal games don't grow on trees.

Fair enough, and definitely can agree your OP was raising a question without pushing an agenda.

Be assured my irritation is at the evolution of the thread with a few layers of odium, and I am not such a mad fool as to blame the person who starts a discussion thread for the contents several pages later!

Yeah all good mate! To be fair, it's probably gone a bit of a different direction given Gus and the team's form over the last 6 weeks since the thread started.

Jack Viney is 25. Hawthorn didnt trade Sam Mitchell when he was 25.

Hilarious comparison, given one is a patient player that can stand still in traffic, evade a tackle with a sidestep then find a pin point target in space, while the other is a bull that tries to blast through tackles or mongrel it forward without care. One is planned to be the successor to Clarko, who's midfield coaching was said to be one of the defining factors in West Coasts premiership, while the other can barely string a sentence together.

Why don't you just bloody put every player up for trade then?

You and Sam Mitchell also have something in common.  You are both flogs!

Hell no.

Wont happen and shouldnt happen.

It must be realised that with the confusion of the game plan through the midfield, Brayshaw cannot save the whole team. He is still in the top five players for the MFC - and should be retained just in case a new order of coaching takes place for the future and his skills - and those of Clarrie and Gawn - will elevate. Viney is in that basket, as well, and the necessary team reliance will resume whilst the rabble and lesser skills of many will dissipate.

Last year he reliably butchered the ball in his quest to get the ball forward quickly. I recall watching him routinely ignore a free player facing the play as he thumped it over his shoulder to no one. It went by largely unnoticed because a) he was in such good form and b) the chaos ball was working well for us.

It strikes me that he hasn't been able to eradicate it from his game as he continues to do it with a turnover typically the end result.

He's definitely more composed when actually running with the play but seems to (infuriatingly) ignore better options when running against the play.

I hope his future is with with us and fitness, form and confidence (and a better defensive side) brings back 2018 Angus!

We also know squat about what injury he may or may not be carrying. I doubt the club would trade him out if he's played the season under an injury cloud.

Yeah, I posted a similar (but opposite haha) thing in the match preview thread. I suggested playing him forward, like deeper forward, where maybe he can snag a couple of goals, get involved in some scoring, just generally do some things that might bring him some enjoyment from his footy. Similar mindset to what you're suggesting with the half back idea, just a different end of the ground.

He's had some deeper forward moments lately, he isn't really getting any loose ball as a forward and with our ball movement I struggle to see him winning a lot of contests. Not to mention we can't have 2 Lewis' just cheating forward and hoping it works.

Tagging worked against the Eagles, but he's not a great fit for Treloar and he's priority number 1 to stop carving us up through the middle. Pendles maybe? Half back is where he can find plenty of it and doesn't have to think too much, just stick to a man, get the ball and feed it out wide.

the issue is that when he has been deployed as a sweeper he doesn't get involved

he was okay forward against the tiggas, and hopeless in the midfield against them

it's either pendles or adams for him this weekend i reckon

where is the loyalty to our players, wanting to trade them when they are having a bad trot. when they are not playing well what do you think you will get for them. angus is a damn good footballer who we need to keep, he will continue to grow and get better with age and experience.

Melbourne has privately moved to quash trade scuttlebutt regarding Angus Brayshaw.

Foxfooty.com.au understands the club reaffirmed its loyalty to the 23-year-old’s management last week.

Brayshaw’s drop in form has become one of the most perplexing narratives of the season for the Demons, who have won five games and are languishing in 17th position on the ladder.

And although it’s understood Gold Coast and Fremantle are two of several clubs strongly contemplating a bold play for the former No. 3 draft pick, neither the club nor player will consider a trade this summer.

Would say "close thread", except didn't we say a similar thing about Hogan?

Awesome new to hear that Gus will be at the club next year.

Like many good talented players that have great careers, sometimes they have a year or 2 in a dip of form. Gus will bounce back strongly next year.

I think Brayshaw is disillusioned with the Dees and where he is played. His demeanour on field says he is unhappy and frustrated to me. It’s obvious! I would’nt be surprised if at seasons end Brayshaw asks for a trade to Freo. And I don’t blame him.

Goodwin’s game plan and positioning of Brayshaw is a shambles.

Hill and Langdon to come in...

Trade Goody I think... The game plan and coaching performance this year has been most disappointing.

Or maybe all of this fan trade discussion on social media for the past month that eventually seeped into all of the major media outlets, will light a fuse under him so he comes out firing next year wanting to prove a point. And maybe just maybe all the dont worry 'he will continue to grow and get better with age and experience' sentiment just breeds complacency.

Nothing is guaranteed to progress or 'get better' and calling fans disloyal for wanting to plug holes in our list by moving under-performing players out with currency is basically just trying to stifle constructive list discussions. I don't necessarily think we should trade him if we can address list needs in other ways, but disloyalty for discussing a trade is a bridge too far. I follow the MFC, not angus brayshaw.

Maybe we won't trade him.

Or maybe we've finally learnt a thing or two about negotiations.

I'd trade him for a good deal, but I don't know about his mental state, confidence, fitness/health and any number of things that could be impacting his form that might be easier to fix than I think.

Let’s rip heart and soul players out of our team.

Do yourself a favour and go watch last years finals series

We have no heart and soul players, that’s why we are 17th. If Viney were a heart and Soul player he would have worked hard to get his kicking and decision making sorted.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
