Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Max Gawn shanks left - AGAIN

Virtually from the goal square no less - shanks nearly all his kicks left & has learnt nothing since costing us the Geelong game last year.

In an era when most aspects of player training & development are monitored & measured to within a millimetre of their life why on earth don't we put some resources into improving players kicking.

Can't we get maybe Brad Green, Yze, Garry Lyon, Neita all of whom were great kicks to spend some time with the likes of Max, Fritsch, Trac, Tim Smith & Hunt to improve their kicking.

Develop a routine, consistent ball drop, where to aim and when passing to a team mate learn to hit him on the chest not a metre above the head.

Is all this too obvious or what ?

I'm sure his training routine has them sailing straight through but under game pressure his desire to get it straight on to the boot seems him hook it right.

The  moment you get him aiming way to the right would be the moment he kicks it straight and it misses as well.

It's a flaw in his game but I'm more worried about our forwards than Max.

Ever single player needs to improve in goal kicking. Sadly it has been lost over the years, when sport science told clubs players did not need to practice their craft de to their legs getting tired.

Such a big part of our game, but clubs seem to want players doing other things.

Would make sense. But i am not laying any blame on Max

Selection each week is a Jupiter Jones Mystery to me

yep I thought Preuss was a lay down misere for a game in Darwin simply on the basis that had we won (which was not an unreasonable expectation... silly me..) we needed Gawn to be relatively fresh for the QB game.

I agree.

“Big blokes don’t get shorter late in the game”

Jack Dyer...

The season has been killed. I am just watching now.

Goodwin has got a lot of digging to do to get out of this hole ?

For all that has gone wrong this season, No.11 is not one of them.  He is our genuine A-Grader and deserves our respect and adoration.  It should not be up to him to kick goals for us although it is great when he does.  My concerns are more to do with our forwards who seem to have forgotten the point of the game inside the forward 50 arc! Kick a sausage roll FGS!

Nah, we don’t practice proper techniques at training, just a bunch of blokes having pot shots at the sticks cos in game it’s so different that it’s not even worth trying.

Hence we rule at goal kicking and lesser players like Dunstall who trained goal kicking every session we’re so so poor.

Such sense!

Darts players should not practice throwing triples in case it wears out their elbows

Shooters should not practice hitting bullseyes in case they go crosseyed

Pool players should not practice sinking balls in case they rip the cloth

Sprinters should not practice running fast in case they get sore legs

On it goes. Sports revolution in action

Then they can show up to competition refreshed and fully prepared

Have the same problem with the new driver - practice is fine, on comp day, I try to hit it too hard, and off to the treeline goes that little white devil to hide for an eternity in the rough and the fallen branches and twigs (cockatoo country). And, then I lose a stroke on the card. It's as bad as a missed goal.

He is an inspiration when he jags one. Another task completed on his way to 100 tasks per game.

His ball drop is too high. It's an easy fix though — just tell him to lose 30cm.

the other trick is to focus on something high up and 20m past the goals. his field long kicking is reasonably good.

Follow through...

The follow through must be heading toward the goal target, surely.

"Must be"?

We don't do "must be" in the AFL. We run towards the behind post and swing our leg towards the other behind post, we stand sideways and kick low percentage bananas, we dribble the ball along the ground giving it plenty of opportunity to take a mug bounce ... please, leave your "correct technique" for games like rugby, rugby league, gridiron, etc. Games that require accuracy. We'll get on with our drowning practice, thank you very much.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting Max’s kicking is our biggest issue. But it is just such an obvious flaw, I am shocked it is still happening.

Regardless, he was huge on Monday. I shudder to think what would have happened without him.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
