Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Is he our most important missing player?

He contests

He wins one on ones

He takes responsibility

we were no good this year with him when he was playing.. its not one payer, although i admit he is sorely missed.

This year is a disaster.. no more sugar coating it.

we drafted the wrong players, we mismanaged players, we over rated some players, we were sloppy in reviews. Anyway you look at it.. this has been an embarrassing club performance and one i have mentioned in another thread.. we are so far off being a professional club and the results are pretty stark.

The scary thing is only Nev, Vanders and Melk are missing from our best 22 now. What we saw yesterday reveals huge concerns about our depth.

Recruiters and development coaches need to pull their finger out because our list is severely lacking in skill, speed and smarts.

Yes there is still an Elephant in the room inside the MFC, i don’t know what it is, but it is there.

Our fall from grace from last year is a Plummet, is it out of control?

The effort was there yesterday 100% but i have never seen a professional AFL side play with such bad skill levels. That just doesn’t happen. Why is it there?

This season is gone, i expect a huge review of the entire club at years end.

12 months is a long time at Melbourne Football Club.

I do wonder if all was ok when PJ left....?

I think it’s coaching to a large degree. Too many rules and regs. Players are becoming lost. That’s how it looked yesterday

Goodwin should let his players play with some natural flare...

And with out wanting to shoot Bambi (or her mum to be more accurate as no one ver shot bambi) Nev is not the future, he is slow and alsmo st done. Vanders foot may never recover, and Melk is a fwd who average less than .75 goals per game.

The list needs a reset.. and it will need to happen smartly next year. I fully believe we will get the wooden spoon so at least a gun is coming our way.

Agreed. What worries me most is that nothing has changed since last years Preliminary Final

Our Forward Line was empty so often yesterday. Fix it up Goodwin

Jackson out.

Pert in.

Over the cliff we go.

Connected events or coincidence?

I’ve never been big on coincidences.

No I don’t think we can blame Pert. If that was the reason, we would have heard about it by now. It is something else that needs addressing...

What is it in your opinion?

As i said above. I really don’t know, but i don’t blame Pert. A bad CEO is never hidden. It’s somewhere in the Football Dept.

the Players are putting in 100%, it’s not effort.

From outside it has looked to me that all year we have been over coached. Losing to Meth Coke 3 weeks ago was also a kick in the guts. We had them beat, but didn’t.

Can you even hypothesise what Pert has been doing that could lead to this conspiracy theory you’re angling at?

Serious question.

Agreed. But if we had beaten Meth Coke, the confidence would have returned. I think we are being over coached, players are confused

If Goodwin is smart he will loosen the belts and let the players use their natural talents more....

Overrated.

Look at his 'instant defence' when he loses a contest.  From the grandstand, more interested in 'me' than 'we'.

I miss Joel Smith.

I think its as simple as the team is under immense pressure and its impacting their decision making and execution. Start to win, the pressure reduces and the skills will improve.

But that should be every Club each week.

Other Clubs handle it. We, the MFC haven’t for decades, so i ask the question again

“why?”

“what is it that continually holds this club back?”

we needed PJ and Roosy to stay longer, but why?

If you're a midfielder for the dees - who do you kick the ball to in the forward line who is going to kick a goal.

When Jeffy passed off that ball in the first quarter, it was clear to me nobody wants to take the responsiblity for a shot at goal.

The last quarters of our last two games have netted 3 goals 16 behinds. Plenty of opportunity and scope to review (a) who can take a contested inside 50 mark (b) who will do something when the ball comes to ground (c) who is not applying offensive pressure and (d) who is happy to have a crack at a set shot.

Doesn't matter who is at the helm we have a losing culture in our club, I reckon PJ and Roos started to change this, then PJ and Goodwin kept it going but we have certainly gone back to what is easy losing games of Football.  That is the problem for our club it is to easy to lose games and as a club have taken the easy path to many times and now it is in the fabric of our club.

We just continually get it wrong at the draft table, we draft for now not where the game is heading.  Dean Bailey was all about the running athlete type of player and the game turned into a contested structured game, then we went the contested bulls limited skills but great around the contest, we saw 1 year of relative success at the end, then game evolved to uncontested keep the ball off style we just don't have skilful enough players to execute this style.

A football oval is massive when you defend teams try to make it small, attack teams try to make it large, the issue we have we make it small on the attack and play into oppositions hands.  They know we will turn the ball over in our forward 50m arc and they just get ready to run to expose us.

Melksham makes a defender accountable as they know he is dangerous with ball in had, they also know that our other forwards aren't so they can get attack off them and we don't work hard enough back into our forward line to be dangerous.

I think it is the Norm Smith curse. In fact I'm quite sure we will find that Gary Pert is in some wayy related to Norm Smith. It's the only plausible explanation and I'm bewildered as to why the media haven't been asking the hard questions re thhis connection.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
