Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Trac unfortunatley has to practice his set shot (and bal drop) instead of speechmaking.  WHen he can kick gaols under pressure he would make a great captain.

Max  (c)

TMac (VC)

Jetta  and Harmesy in leadership group

Clarrie needs to get over his dinky handballing and Gus has to cure his colour blinded kicking.
Then we will be away !!!!!

I hope every player watched the Toiges and WC on SUnday to understand what commitment is all about.

Probably get howled down for this but

why not May for captain if he comes back with the correct skin folds ?

he does not take a back ward step, goes hard at it !  And he had some experience .

What are u talking about? I had him pegged for this in another thread about 6 weeks ago!!

So what happens when Gawn has an average year in 2020, and Frost wins the B&F?

Simpletons reward the best player with the captaincy every year or 2.

Viney should co-captain with Gawn.  End of story.  Jones has served well and enjoy his last year or so captaincy-free.

Total leadership spill. No one holds any position based upon the past.  Leadership positions to be earned based upon actions around the team and on the track.  real leadership on display on the paddock, but not ending there.  Expect there to be a leadership group of May, Gawn TMac (Line generals) and one or two others (Lever? Viney?). But have to be earned from day 1 back at the club.  C and VC decided from amongst the leadership group.

Hard to lead that Rabble, regardless of who you are..

Sorry had not read that thread,   but its not an universally popular position to take.    Most posters (80%) here advocate for Viney as a hard at it player or Jones for his past endeavours, when no one else seemed to be capable,   Neither are capable of grabbing a game by the throat and making it ours.

Ricciutto, Voss, Hird or Selwood  they are not.

Neitz was OK apart from his last year. Ditterich made the others walk tall.  who else.

If May was fit and not injured then he plays a hard game and might be an answer, I think time will tell, but I don't think I am looking forward to 2020 with much confidence unless there is great change. and May into a major leadership role would be a BIG change.

Especially if Viney and Jones were demoted, as it were.    It will be the offseason soon,  Number 2 pick and pick 20 ?

last year was better !!

If Viney is anywhere near Captain next year we are in deeper stuff than now! Must make clear sweeping changes.

Trac possibly....Petracca is possibly one of the overrated players in the game at the moment. Still waiting for him to play a whole game. He fits your self absorbed and uninspiring brief perfectly. I’d trade him at seasons end but the club won’t.

Well that is just a ridiculous post, because he has had a great year, built on it really well. Lucky you are not in our FD.

Nick Maxwell became a decent player after being named captain. You could argue he wouldn't have been best 22 in a near unbeatable Pies team if he wasn't captain. Except he, like all strong leaders, excelled and exerted +100% to lead from the front. He was an average player striving to be the best. That's great leadership.

Yep. There was only one role for Nick Maxwell in that team. To be the Captain

It’s Viney to retain the captaincy in his own right.  Lots of other issues to worry about.

This probably won't happen, but Jack needs to focus all of his energy in getting his body and form back in 2020.

The Captaincy needs to be our most Influential Player and media performer Maxy Gawn with Tmac as his VC.

Likely scenario though, Gawny and Jack Co-Captains.

May!

The guy is a worn out average player on his good days who is here to top up his Super.

Based on this year he will struggle to play 10 games, you need a captain who is capable of 20+ PA.

We're not talking about the off spin bowler here 'old'...

May is an A grader, has struggled to get on the park but if he does (and should with a solid preseason)  next year will push for AA.

Could not agree more. The May option even in LG would be a big change and worthy of consideration.  I will be surprised if he's not at least In LG if he does a gawn and returns in mint condition

Healy said a few weeks ago that Viney shouldn't have been made co-captain as '...he was not in control of his game... and said so at the time.  That sounds like an essential criteria, among several others.

Max is the only one that fulfills that and the other criteria:  match winner, media performer, good front man for sponsors,  affable, respected, motivational, works hard and drives standards.

Jack fails on several of those.  May, Lever, Mcdonald etc are not in control of their games/current roles.  The VC/LS from them or Jetta, Melksham.

Let the players have a say.

May AA.

I think you have the wrong definition of that rjay.

jokes aside I have seen nothing to suggest he is AA material.

The only times I heard his name mentioned at GCS was when he was reported which was often.

They did not seem overly upset when he said he was going, that says plenty to me.

May made a mistake and I think will come good next year, that said I don't think he should be in the leadership group given the events of this year.

Serious question. Do you think he is anything above an average backman?

Viney should not under ANY circumstances be Capt next year. Place will continue to go backwards IMV if so!

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
