Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Max Gawn's season

Max is currently 3rd in the Age player of the year and equal 12th in the AFLCA Award.  He has possibly polled Brownlow votes in 5 games between rounds 4 and 11.  I'd think he would poll against Sydney, Hawthorn, West Coast, GWS and Adelaide.  We only won two of those games so 3's might be thin on the ground.  He's got career best disposals averages in 2019 and his influence on games is pretty obvious to all except the Herald Sun footy writers who couldn't even find a vote for him on Saturday night when he was either best or second best on the ground with Crouch from Adelaide. I think the $67 on offer from sportsbet is too juicy to refuse.  If he continues with this form and we win 6 or so games in the second half of the season I think he's a huge chance.  He certainly has nobody taking votes from this year like Brayshaw and Oliver did last season. He'd have to be back in AA calculations as well, given they picked both him and Grundy last season.  Can't wait to see the Gawn v Grundy battle on Monday!

Trigger warning: football statistics

Interesting to see that despite many of his stats being a little bit up here, a little bit down there, most of them haven't actually moved much. Goals down a little, rebounds and intercepts up a bit.

But the big change is a full doubling of his clearances numbers, perhaps partly due tot he rule change but maybe more of just a direct involvement in clearances after hitouts.

Another interesting thing I stumbled across is that while so many of Gawn and Grundy's figures are amazingly close, Gawn thrashes the Magpie for the newfangled stat-of-the-day 'metres gaines'  - 250 to 150.

Make of that what you will, but like others, I'll be watching keenly on monday to see how thoroughly Gawn splatters Grundy all over the 'G, as he vents his mountain-troll rage at the disappointment of season 2019.

We have a dominant ruckman but still the coaching staff cannot give us a plan that really delivers team dominance from that asset.

Strangely enough it was the same by Casey last weekend where Preuss had over 40 hit outs.

Perhaps include Preuss as the number 1 or equal ruckman and allow Gawn to concentrate on round the ground play.

His tap work is sublime, his marking is magnificent and for a guy that is well over 2m tall, he picks the ball up off the deck better than some rovers of a fraction his height.  The guy is a freak.

Love his sense of humor, love his compeditiveness, but beyond all else, I love his passion and loyalty to the red and blue jumper.

Go Maxy - long live the bearded warrior.

Yes you are  so right RBG and love the passion.  Gawn is an all round great fella and a Great all round footballer that loves our great club.

We have the leagues best tap ruckman hands down, and we are not taking advantage of it. Its pathetic. Goes a long way to explaining why we are in the bottom half of teams. It all starts in the middle. Winning a tap, clearing a contest, and disposing the ball effectively into the forward 50 - then hopefully kicking truly. Football is a simple game made easier by having a great tap ruckman. Gawn deserves a brownlow for carrying MFC on his own this year.

From memory his first ~5 games were below his lofty standards but his last month has been outstanding.

How he didn’t win the Brownlow last year is a mystery. if the umpires poll him in a Similar way this year his votes will be down on last year. I don’t reckon he has a chance this year

Round 4 v Sydney he was outstanding. His first 3 games were not of his usual standard.  This year he is our best player by so far it's scary.  No Brayshaw stealing votes this year (at least up to now).  If we have a better second half, which I think we will, he is a real chance.

Did I see somewhere that Grundy might be injured and not playing Queen's Birthday? If that were to be the case, it would help us significantly but be a real shame for football. Having Gawn v Grundy is my idea of the best head-to-head match up going around. Two superb ruckmen.

Grundy played the game out so the odd would say he's highly likely to play.

Both Grundy and Gawn nullified each other last year and neither player was in their team's best.

Looks like I’ll be down another $10. Thanks for selling me the dodgy odds @Swooper1987 from Sportsbet.

Either this is next level economic theory or you're just doing my head in. In essence, you're complaining that if Max wins, instead of winning $81 x $10 = $810 you're only going to win $67 x $10 = $670, a difference of $140. If you're concerned that you'll be "down another $10", aren't you saying you expect to lose altogether...which would mean you would be down $10 whether you took the $81 or $67 on offer?

No way he'll win the Brownlow. Couldn't poll last year when he should've been leading at the halfway mark, the umps either don't like him or don't notice his work.

Agree he has had a good season after a bit of a rough start. Some of his deft tapwork is sublime.

If he gets the ruck AA, just watch all the Collingwood ferals lose it. They all think Brodie Grundy is head and shoulders above the rest and they're still bitter about Gawn getting the first ruck choice in the AA team last year.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
