Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

 Correct.

and the failure to defend their kick ins was deplorable and is purely a coaching failure. It wasn’t the players. It was the way we set up and that’s instructions from the box

It wasn't the players?

Weideman, Hunt and Smith missed absolute sitters from close range directly in front.

Wagner and Garlett dropped easy uncontested marks that would have led to shots for goal.

Some of OMac's defensive efforts on Jenkins were laughable.

This was a game a side with any semblance of composure and mental strength would have won by 6-8 goals.

Jkh was pushed both hands square in the back by Jenkins. That's why he lost his feet.

Brownie, you have to be a lot stronger over the ball than he was.  He will be really disappointed in that effort and if you look at the replay, Hibberd had a little remonstration toward him. It was a great pity because he had a good first half for someone that had missed so much footy.

This horrible season is over. Let’s not waste it. I hope our coaching team aren’t as weak as our players and utilize what’s left of this year to make some tough decisions.

Give players we aren’t sure of time to show if they are worth persisting with. Send everyone who isn’t fit to rest or to the operating table. Tom McDonald needs a 16 week holiday so he can stop playing like a 97 year old with arthritis.

We need to try and salvage this year to make critical list decisions. We also need to hire a [censored] goal kicking coach. Brad Green was an extraordinary kick for goal. He might need the support now. Could be a good way to help him while he helps us.

You misinterpreted what I said. Yes the players made many mistakes. The failure to defend kick ins was a tactical flaw though. I am referring to an isolated part of the game. Nothing else

Just not sure what people expected. We lost arguably our two best players just before the match, leaving us with a car boot sale back line. Our forward line - such as it is - is built around players with a handful of games. What you see with the goalkicking under pressure is exactly what you’d expect from inexperienced players.

The only thing that surprises me is that we were even in a position to win in the first place.

I'm not particularly interested in reflecting on too much about the game, but I did say to my mum who I was watching with tonight, midway through the third quarter, when we were 31 points up and Sloane was out, 'we won't lose it from here, they're a man down and he's their best mid, if we do, it'll be one of the worst loses of the last decade'.

Sure enough, this football club managed to deliver again what no other can. Pathetic really. When the game was there to be taken, we shirked a bunch of chest marks and blazed away and missed sodas in that last quarter that would have buried the opposition.

The only real positive for me out of this game (aside from the moments of good ball movement when Adelaide switched off), is the continued form of young Oskar Baker. He shows poise under pressure, in traffic and makes the right decisions more often than not. He looks like a real find. Well done recruitment and development team, and well done, young man.

Jones - no one has given more, but on the decline

Viney - no one can question the intensity and commitment, but I don't see him as a leader, a la Selwood, Hodge

I think Max should be our captain.

100% agreed. He is our most influential consistent and best player. He is in the thick of the action. He is incredibly well spoken. He has had a lot of setbacks and risen above them. He is captain material  and should be made captain or at least co captain next season.

Despite his (typically) very good game let’s not forget Gawn’s absolute sitter of a dropped mark in the last, on the forward flank that subsequently led to a two goal turnaround.

That moment was almost the turning point in the game.

C'mon. He's gonna make mistakes, especially when he's run up and down an oval all night in that kinda heat. Also took some pretty nasty hits leading right up to that dropped mark. The guy is our beacon in some very dark weather right now.

This is still such a punch to the guts right now, seeing Weids line up for a shot to win much like Gawn vs Geelong (though not as easy to be fair). It just sums our season up perfectly, so much potential, opportunity right there but we stuff it up.

I really wish I didn’t care.

I really cannot find anything more to say. I'm too depressed.

Horrible season for sure, but we will finish top 4 in  2020 with our players all hopefully back on the park and Misson gone.

If we can get a ready made young star with a likely top 5 pick, we will be set.

Spot on. I hate the 2 men on the mark that then leads to open men in the pockets ------> open men on the flanks -------> open men in the corridor to goal.

That said, if Garlett could actually chase a defender kicking in and force them to dispose that would be wonderful. Right now he waits until they are passed him to start chasing so he can get a run down tackle rather than getting up in their face and risking body contact.

Gee Oscar is a spud..

In the first half he leaked 4 goals. Three more later in the game. OMac is a guaranteed pathway/avenue/ for opposition goals. Always has been. Opposition mantra: Wherever Oscar is, kick it there. Too great a liability for this Club. Full stop.

Can't see him holding his spot in the team with the imminent return of May and Lever

I thought JKH was pretty solid tonight Also!

He was slim and athletic instead of solid tonight! Which was good to see. I don't think any team needs a chunky little nugget at half forward that has no strings to his bow. So having a very fit base and slimming down is a good step in the right direction if he wants to prove his worth in the next 13 weeks.

Supporting this club is such hard work. Is there any other that comes close? Maybe Saints or Freo.

Every Melbourne supporter knew the crows would get back into the game. We've seen it dozens (more?) of times over the years. There was a sense of inevitability about it. How is it you change the players, coaches, gameplan, ground whatever - and the MFC still manages still throw games away in heartbreaking fashion.

My dad said he stopped watching at half time, couldn't enjoy the lead we had because he knew it would get eroded and too stressful to watch the 2nd half. My wife (Geelong supporter) said she can't watch Melbourne games anymore, she was getting more upset than I was.

Sounds like my parents. My dad gets too heated watching it on tv, but somehow nonchalantly can go to his bed at half time and just pop the radio on or turn it off and go to sleep and wake up for the result. And my mum hides in the bathroom or bedroom when a result is even remotely close. Kind of defeats the purpose of following/enjoying watching a sport, but i can think i empathize as i get older and realise it's not good for the heart. It's a very uncomfortable feeling they'd rather avoid. Unless its an important final anyway. I live overseas now, but i find that watching it on delay is the best way for me to take an amount of stress away. i can pause it in and take a break in between goals or even forward thrusts, fast forward through the opponents attack and see if a goal was kicked or if they were repelled. For eg I paused it when Weid marked it and took a 2 minute break to come back to the shot. Makes life easier.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
