Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND KYLE DUNKLEY

I've been convinced that our midfield is lacking in depth for several years, so if Kyle can push into the midfield rotation over the next years whilst making a contribution in the forward line, that would clearly be a big step up on the likes of Wagner, Spargo and Lockhart.

My number one priority is players who can find the football, then kicking ability and leg speed. If you can't find the football (see the three names above as examples), everything else is irrelevant.

Heaven forbid if the poor kid comes on here and reads some of the comments by the same usual [censored] that write off these kids every year whoever we draft.

I’m a little confused by people labelling this kid “slow”. Was this gleaned from watching that pretty vague highlight reel? I had trouble telling which one he was at times.

Anyway I bet he’s faster than us useless tossers.

Welcome to the MFC Kyle!

Make our dreams come true (or not, no pressure).

Going by the SEN interview he didn't seem to think he was slow...

Many seem to equate words like inside mid & hard at the ball as meaning too slow.

It's an interesting pick for a mid season draft the AFL brought in so teams with a lot of injuries or retirees could top up with players that can play immediately in place of them.

Clearly that's not what we have done. We've gone early recruiting a prospect who might well be a reasonably high pick in next year's draft. Apparently his junior year last year was ruined by injury and before that he was predicted to be a potential first or second round pick. He was able to have a full pre season and is now showing his true potential. From memory Campbell Brown said most of that.

I haven't read any professionals who know him say he's slow and unskilled. Where have people picked that up from?  Is it from actually watching him or if you've just read it, where have you read it? Just interested to know.

It's because he can't run 100m in 10s is why

He certainly looks skilled and from all accounts this is his main attribute with ball in hand with his use across HF. Something we desperately need.

I suppose IT posters (including myself) are looking at the very brief footage. It's certainly crude to suggest he's slow from that but he certainly isn't fast or at least doesn't appear to have a burst of speed which is usually something HF's possess as an attribute.

The common thread on DL has been the 'Need for Speed'. I do think we are lacking players that can run and spread with decent pace. I can't name many that I would call outside mids/wings who can really move effectively without the ball at the moment.

As a side note I always hear the so called experts say that Oliver is super quick (Healy was one I think). I'd like to know exactly what they mean by that. Is this over 5-10m? 50m? Clayton certainly isn't slow on foot but I'm sometimes baffled with how others see players.

Perhaps they were referring to his actions rather than his leg speed. He is certainly quick, sometimes too quick, to offload a handball. Nevertheless, when he gets it right, it's a thing of beauty.

Will Dunks play for the VFL this weekend, or AFL??

Pardon my ignorance, but if he plays VFL would it be with Casey or Footscray? In other words, does drafting to an AFL club automatically mean the player fits into that club's VFL (or equivalent interstate) club or is there a need for some form of formal VFL transfer?

Not sure?

You would think he would have to play for Casey

3. Melbourne – Kyle Dunkley (Gippsland Power/Footscray VFL)
The 185cm big-bodied midfielder has the ability to push forward, showcased by his three-goal VFL debut against Box Hill three weeks ago. Overlooked last year playing for Oakleigh Chargers, got chance to return as an over-age player for Gippsland in the NAB League this season and completed the pre-season with Footscray. Brother of Western Bulldogs midfielder Josh and son of former Sydney defender Andrew.

Nah he was definitely referring to his pace. We all know how lightning Clarry's hands are :).

Neither of our small forward rookies Bedford or Chandler have managed 3 goals in a VFL game.

Dunkley, a midfielder, kicks 3 in his first game.

I like this kid already.

I suspect DSP that some may have hoped he would be able to come from behind for the Downlow this year, and anything less would be a dismal failure by a spud or a dud :-((

Exactly  .... get the ball,  then use it.

I was sick of being told month after month that Strauss was an elite user of the ball (and Adam Maric for that matter) but they hardly ever touched it.  I believe Cale Morton was also an elite user of the ball .....   and so on.

Totally agree Poita and Mono.

No point having a great kick if you can't get it enough for the team to capitalise on it. Secondly no point having pace if you don't get it either, as you're just running around like a headless chook (Gary Rohan before this year is a good example of it).

Chandler has kicked 6 goals this year and Bedford has 2 or 3.

Both have had a game where they kicked 2 goals.

Dunkley can mark outstretched in front of his body, picking up kicks that would bounce in front of other players. I am scratching my head to think of the last Dee player to be able to do that. Maybe Gary Lyon?

I give him about a month before we coach it out of him. I remember Jeremy Howe's first year with us. He used to shepherd before we knocked that right out of him as well.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
