Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Impossible to explain the inexplicable DZ.

See Nasher's post above for the obvious answer that most were calling for pre-match.

This is one VERY poor call and the one that tells me Goody just ain't getting it.

There are so many coaches that would be better for this club and this list right now ...here's just one example if he could be bothered (yeh yeh he's washed up and probably past it but couldn't be worse than Goody at selection and game day!)...

Yeah, I called for that in the Goalkicking post! But aparently we don't have one!!

Which then doubles the requirement for Max Rooke to FRO

I was being a bit sarcastic Rusty. I don’t see why people think Preuss is the magic bullet, I don’t rate him as a forward at all and obviously our main ruckman goes okay. I don’t think just being tall is enough.

That said, I do have a fair bit of sympathy for the argument that he couldn’t possibly have added any less than Spargo or Corey Wagner today.

We looked slow enough today without Preuss let alone with him in the side. GWS just tear you to shreds when you turn the ball over. Hardest running side in the comp (along with collingwood).

They were cleaner with possessions but where they killed us is when we turned the ball over and they worked so hard to run back through the middle and link up. They were just far too good.

The inability for us to spread and run hard for each other is baffling. This team still just looks so unfit to me.

Yet he (Spargo) can't run quick enough to catch anyone YB.

And we continue to make a mess of most of anything short when we did try coming inside 50.  Then the bulk of time bomb to the hot spot where no one takes a contested mark with i believe one exception by T-mac late in the match.

Pruess Pruess Pruess for Spargo all day every day unless you can be 95% certain it's going to [censored] down...and even then i wouldn't play Spargo unless there was no other smalls to choose from.

Today was diabolical

For us members, being shareholders, I think we've reached the point (if we hadn't already) where we deserve an investigation into what has happened behind the scenes this year. It's been said a fair bit. But something stinks.

Yes we love our team. But we're also investors. And somebody, or a group of people out there, are wasting our money and faith.

I don’t think anyone is actually suggesting he is a magic bullet or a particularly good forward, just that he makes us better by taking the best defender because he is massive and can mark and kick goals as has been proven in his games with us this year. This means tmac and others get the next best defenders which gives them a better chance, and our small forward get more opportunities from balls that go to ground rather the simply being marked uncontested by the opposition.

He also suits our bomb it in mindset which despite our suggestions, continues to go uncorrected

Spargo must have played his last game today, he was terrible.

His pathetic effort to cover a player where he ended up clumsily running over the mark giving 50 and the 1st goal to GWS was indicative of his day. The only thing he looked capable doing was running off to the bench

Lucky goal late and a few cheap kicks wasn't enough to salvage anything

Yes i knew that Nasher.  The fact that even synical you could see this only reinforced the call that Pruess for Spargo was always a better option.  No ifs or buts.

The fact that the coach can't see this, and continues to blindly play a severely out of form Fritschkreig (and has continued to do so watching him slowly ebb away with each match) down back is enough to convince me (along with a number of other glaringly horrible errors this season)  that Goody just isn't up to it.  We have chosen the wrong horse IMHO.

Did anyone else hear Phil Davis as he ran to the bench mid-way into the first quarter?

He yelled out "they're f**king sh*t! No pressure!". Ostensibly to give his team a rev-up but largely directed at our bench.

Arrogant? Maybe. Accurate? You bet.

When you have this many VFL-level players in the 22, you have to start with the non-negotiables - chasing, tackling, effort and intensity. We had about five players bring the required level in the first half. On a 9-day break, there is no excuse for being so insipid so early.

In terms of our skill, yes, other sides have had injuries too, and some have done well despite those injuries, but that doesn't mean every club is expected to be fine when they have a 17-man injury list and have had a major portion of the club in rehab since December.

Today's side had Stretch, Spargo, C Wagner, J Wagner, Petty, T Smith and Lockhart. Of those, only J Wagner and, briefly, Lockhart played respectably. I'd drop the other five immediately if I could.

But it's not just our injuries. We have too many best 22 players who are out of form and/or underperforming - Brayshaw might be at the head of this list. He was ineffectual all day. Then add Jones and Viney, who are struggling, and when Oliver gets tagged out of it our midfield was essentially Gawn and Harmes.

On the flipside, we've found a gem in Hore, Baker's shown enough in his two games to suggest he can make it at this level, and Lockhart shows flashes of brilliance (I think fitness is his big problem so a pre-season will hopefully do him wonders).

We need to spend the rest of this year re-integrating key players on the injury list into the best 22 - Salem, Hibberd, Melksham, Lever, May, Hannan, vandenBerg, J Smith, Jetta (and, IMO, Weideman). And we need to demand that Oliver, Brayshaw, VIney, TMac, Petracca and Jones (so long as we keep playing him) lift their games.

Exactly my line of thinking coach. If he takes 2 contested goal square marks early you just watch our forward 50 open up as they'll need to double team him.

The intercept marks inside forward 50 have to stop. I'm having flashbacks to the Adam Oxley game every week.

No i actually think he is probably a champion guy of very nice make up and character PF.  One the players are happy to follow and see good in.  Unfortunately at this point (and not sure he ever will be but happy to be proven wrong as we have no choice stupidly signing him for another 3 years) he is not a very good AFL coach.

Neeld certainly didn’t shield them and you can argue during that period is probably the worst in club history. So clearly that doesn’t work either.

The skill level is bad, the connection is bad but injuries play a big part and you’d have to ignorant to overlook that. If you look at our back 6, just about every first picked player is out injured. Jetta, Hibberd, Salem, May and Lever. Then you look at our forwards. Melksham, Vanders, Hannan, Smith, Nibbler. There’s another 5 of 6. The only area where we’ve had some stability is the midfield. And most games so far we’ve dominated in that area bar today.

The season is done but let’s see if things change as we start getting some players back.

I tend to agree and after all lets look at the Plethora of AFL coaches who seemed to shine as Assistants at AFL clubs who are succesful but when thrust into main Gig?? Bolton is an example At Hawks almost had Zen like aura. Sheeit where is he now??

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
