Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Smith is named on the field, he won't be dropped. They'llonly drop players from the extended bench

How people still don't understand this concept is seriously mind boggling.

Misson said the concussed guys still have to get ticked off on Saturday. Haven't you ever heard of a late change?

It was heartening seeing us return to the footy that made us great to watch last week. I'm not sure where that was for the first few rounds but it gives me hope that it's still there.

Scoreboard pressure early is crucial, we were on top for the first 10min last week but failed to make it count, which ended up being the theme for the whole game. If Tom, Trac, and Jeffy can get on the board early, get their confidence up it could be what wins us the game.

Just on Jeffy, did anyone else feel like there were more glimpses of his old self last week? Hitting the crumbs hard with pace, and looking to be creative, his finishing still isn't quite right but for the first time in a while he looked like a danger.

It was a classic Jeffy game, really clean, opportunistic, creative, a bit timid and frustrating lazy misses. You get it all and you have to accept the ordinary because the good is very good.

Agreed. AND he can kick straight from a set shot...which puts him way out front of the rest at the moment.

A player plays an otherwise good game that has an obviously positive effect on the game, but has one blemish in it. Would you prefer the blemish be:

a) 1 dropped sitter?
b) 1 shanked set shot from 30 out, directly in front?
c) 1 failure to 'go'?

For some reason, everyone eventually overlooks (a) and (b) but (c) appears to be a completely unforgivable sin. I reckon if the player committed 5 of them in a game, maybe I could get it, but I reckon too much weight is being put on one error for Garlett.

For those who see the world in black and white and think I'm suggesting it should be acceptable not to 'go' when required, I'm certainly not. I'm just suggesting it's one of a suite of things that should be non-negotiable in AFL football, but it seems to get a disproportional amount of focus, despite the fact that it probably has the same outcome on the scoreboard, or arguably less outcome on the scoreboard, than the other cardinal and very rectifiable sins.

I have heard of a late change. It's obvious he got through Tuesday's  main training session where as ANB didn't.

So he will be playing.

How many times did he not even provide a contest?  Shirked the contest a couple of times too.  2 goals from being out the back inflate his stats and overstate his level of performance.

Who else would have gotten those three goals? He will play himself into form and in the meantime still provide goals, which is more than can be said about others.  I’d be more concerned about some of those set shots from the likes of Tom and Trac.

Late change is still possible if Smith's not 100% though. I wouldn't risk him.

Fair enough; I tend to be in the camp of assuming that won't happen. They've already ruled ANB out, so I'd expect them to have already ruled out Smith too if there was doubt. The rationale being I'm in no position to assess whether it's a 'risk' to play him or not.

I think the theory of don’t play the extra tall because of weather is old school. Unless it is absolutely pelting down for the whole game, ground conditions are usually pretty good these days, dries up quickly & new footys used every score kicked.

I would almost have the oppostie view, if it is wet that means more stoppages, more ball ups, throw ins, more contact for Gawn. He’d tire a hell of a lot with the extra stoppages, Preuss’ big body in a slog against Mumford isn’t a bad idea, will it happen probably not

Some very good points there. Definitely compelling to bring Preuss in.

Weid will come in for T Smith.

I hope not. Weid has not earned a recall not even close. Tim Smith competes, he marks, he puts pressure on. Right now he is more important to our game that Weid.

Weid will get there but is the sort of player that has to be up and about.

Preuss matches up better with Mumford than any other ruck in the comp.  Time to give Gawn a chop out.  I would play Gawn forward and try attract/engage Davis.  Gawn should play 2nd ruck this week.  Preuss deep forward is a concern when the ball hits the deck.

Interesting points Nasher.

But I don't think there are that many non-negotiables.  People make skill errors/miss shots/drop marks and that can be forgiven up to a point. But not putting your body on the line for the team and not helping your team mates even if only done once or twice affects the whole team. and if that someone continues to get picked, the standards can drop amongst the whole side.

I am not saying that is what Jeff has done, just talking generally.

Can't agree with the above points re Mumford v Preuss. Why would we be worried about matching up with Mumford? We arguably have the best ruck in the comp who gives our mids silver service and he should run Mumford off his feet. Our starting midfield is the main area that gives us a chance of winning this game.

If Preuss plays, it will be predominantly forward.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
