Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

When our season is dead and buried he should be put out to pasture for the rest of the season to get his body and fitness right.

You don't manage game time because of injury, you manage game time because of fitness.

Given he hasn't done a full pre-season for 2 years now, understandable.

To state the obvious, he’s a heart and soul player clearly playing injured. Whether those injuries are of the  long term ,perhaps career long,  foot or something else I don’t know. But whatever the cause his kicking has become a real liability. He gets neither penetration nor accuracy on his left anymore and let’s face it, he’s never really had a right. If he gets the ball in space the best he’s doing is sending it high to a 50/50. It almost nullifies how good he is on the inside.

Also, when I see him giving interviews it’s like he gives nothing of his real self. Perhaps protecting himself and towing the party line steadfastly. When I watch him I do wonder, when Jones steps back eventually,  if viney will be the type of leader that inspires . No one could ever question his commitment nor his guts , and I’m probably going to roasted fr saying this,  but I’m starting to question his skill set as a future solo captain.

Jack will be fine, I reckon he's learned to temper his intensity while his body and conditioning improve and we will see him dominating games in the back half of the year.

Poor. Very poor.  Give Jack a run without injury.  He is not 100% and will get better each week.  It’s a cheap shot given our year so far.  Tough and determined without question.  Beats more tackles than gets caught.

Not Poor FACT

Don't give me not 100% because which players are??

Not a cheap shot at all, I'll stick to my comments a very limited footballer who has Grunt and can go and get it and not much else.

I have nothing against Jack the player, he always goes in hard for the ball never shirks a contest and will give you all his will but as a captain I just look at how Cripps and how he leads his team and plays. Cripps has established himself a star and no one talks about Jack in that way. I feel Jack just needs to use the ball better. Last night was just a lot of rushed kicks.

Im more concerned about Brayshaw and where his form and skill have gone

Agree on both points

Therein lies a problem . Jack V needs to moce away from the costant crash & bash in the midfield, because we have Clarrie, Harmes, Gus  and potentially Petracca who work more expansively /mobile  in the midfield. By this I reckon they clear the area better. Brayshaw in particular is being played outside his specialist area.

I fell that Jack V would be better as a small forward, who makes sure the ball remains in the fwd area because of the pressure he applies. THis will make it easier on his body and increase the defensive aspects of our  Forwards.

Jack will find his best form soon enough ... he's obviously carrying something which makes him look a bit proppy and not freed up in his movements.

We've had a few like that this year including T-Mac who looked to have rediscovered his movement in the first half on Friday evening.  Jones is another and Hibberd early on.  Harmes took a while to get going as well and Petracca the same.

From an overall team point of view the side seemed to spring into action on Friday night but we can't let our guard down in any given upcoming game.  Have to win at least 2 of the next 3 games.  We just need to bring our best.  We've got enough good players available to win games.

I actually thought he was okay. Seemed to have a bit more break away pace

If he can't find a side step out of traffic he at least needs to work on his burst speed to escape congestion a little more often.

That allows a little extra space/time to steady in the last few steps to hit up targets inside 50 or around the arc.  Alternatively it allows him to get it out of congestion more cleanly by hand to runners well clear of congestion rather than a few feet away that we see far too often at the mo (not alone here).

Slight problem with the handball outside though.  We need to find one or two more outside mids to offer some depth with the only genuine options being Salem & Harmes, until Hannan returns.

Work on the burst speed first ...then the finish/accuracy.  Finishing school required to add a few extra strings to a solid base.  Fitness probably impacting in the short term a little.

Jack has become a little generic. We had plenty of success covering his injuries last year and there was no proof we stood up any less when he was not there. We have plenty of inside mids, we need more outside run. I think the way Jack plays is why he gets injured so much. Unless he changes his game he will not have a long career, or will only play half seasons.

You can add Fritsch, Salem, Lewis, Hibberd, ANB and J Wagner to that list. It can be a momentum killer especially when there is a run-on and there are players creating options downfield only for that player to stop and change direction because he can't kick on the other foot. A lot of times on Friday you saw players either get caught with ball, handball it to a teammate that is covered or turned it over because that player ignored a lead because he would have to use his wrong foot. And yes they are predictable and the opposition know exactly what the player is going to do.

FACT!

Viney has been having a poor season by his standards and definitely has limitations which prevent him from being a superstar.

But I seem to be going through a phase where I am just getting fed up with hyperbole and egofarts.

A player with 32 Brownlow votes in his first 98 games, can we at least accept that there might be a range of valid opinions about his past, current and potential future contribution, and that it is not necessary for one particular perspective to be declared THE ONLY TRUE FACT THAT EVER THERE WAS HEAR ME FOR I AM YOUR LORD.

Seriously, try a little humility.

Funny you say inside 50s and forwards. I re-watched the 4th qtr and Jack Viney kicked directly to McGovern/Hurn for an intercept mark on 3 occasions in the space of 10-15 minutes.

It’s not just his kicking, it’s his decision making, too. On two of those occasions he had handball options over the top which would have allowed the next player to kick behind Hurn/McGovern which is one strategy to beat them. A captain just can’t be making such fundamental poor decisions.

Fixing Jack Viney leads to better inside 50s and better forwards.

Few people saying when Jones steps down Gawn will be new co captain.

When did it become assumed that captaincy is to be shared these days? What have I missed? Picking a second captain as some sort of injury or leadership insurance policy speaks volumes in itself. Be nice to just have 1 good captain instead of 2 average ones.

Viney will have to do for now. I honestly think he’s going to have a very short career and the captaincy will take care of itself in due course, at which point immediately it’s gotta be Gawn, or short-mid term Lever. Tmac is a possibility for mine too, albeit his dreadful lack of form right now.

I feel Viney was a good fit for captaincy in recent years past, but the game and team and grown beyond that of which his captaincy compliments. We can’t have our captain constantly missing the side of a barn by foot while struggling to get 15 games a year in due to chronic injuries. Plus as others have said is media performance is normally very cringeworthy. Blokes like Gawn lever and tmac are the complete opposite on that front.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
