Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Preuss is first at the club for goal average at 2 goals per game. Yeah small sample size, but hes shown he can play forward and has kicked a couple of pearlers.

Hes also physical and has mongrel.

Its laughable thats hes being played at VFL level.  A total waste.

Absolute rubbish

"rubbish"_  OK, fair enough...   but his application is off,  and his focus is off,  and is in very average form...  creating more mistakes than he normally would.

So He is out of form,  and needs to be dropped.

hows that ?   does that suit your repertoire ?

Agree - it was very Toby Greene and I thought the AFL were trying to stamp that out.

I hadn't even considered that. ?

...  actually because the player was totally focused to Mark the ball

I can completely see why they went with Smith over Preuss against West Coast, Smith played directly on McGovern and held him completely accountable until he got knocked out. Preuss wouldn't have been able to do that, he's just not type of player, and I don't think we could have risked having another tall in the team (choosing an extra tall down back as well).

I think the luxury of having a good attacking ruck/forward means you can bring him in as needs, unless he's in blinding form. I could see him not getting picked this week as Haynes also should be manned up, assuming Davis goes to TMac. So more tall backlines with good interceptors like WCE, GWS, Rich (with Rance), Col etc. Preuss might be left out while when we want to go taller against less expansive talls he becomes a big asset.

Play Pruess forward FFS, if only to give Tmac the 2nd best defender and a chance to kick 2+ goals. T Mac cannot handle being the main option up forward.

Yep T mac needs to be running that is when he is at his best working up the ground and working hard back to deep forward.  Pruess comes in as a deep forward, stand him 25m out Phil Davis will panic manning up on a bloke this size

Gees GWS have had an easy run.  and they've lost to Hawks (smashing) and Freo at home.

I reckon we might be in with a good chance here. theyre scared of the G

so are we but not as much!  ?

The thinking-man's post. Fully agree. Manning-up on Preuss  as a deep forward across a game is an opposition nightmare - reducing the emphasis and focus on TMac, plus providing for TMac to be a more mobile, space-seeking forward surrounded by some smalls for support. We have expected too much from too few for the season, so far. There are those that can help out responsibly and affect the scoreboard through teamed applications.

Your speaking like GWS will just blinding follow our game plan and will just sit Davis on Preuss because we want them too. Preuss might have kicked a few goals in his first few games however he is not Lockett, Buddy or Carey. They'll play off him at every opportunity with Haynes more than able to match TMac in moving around the ground but also getting back quicker. I'd prefer to see someone make Haynes accountable rather then have a top heavy forward line which gets killed on the way out.

I don't think GWS is the right team to play Preuss as that stay at home foward, unless TSmith is out with injury, the we don't have much of a choice.

Just saying.

That was three weeks ago, his only decent game for the year in the vfl.

You might be thinking other teams that don't bomb it as often as we do R&B.  Pruess playing deep and smalls feeding off him, provided they are going both ways and pressuring on the way out in a major way, is ideal for the way we mostly  bomb it inside.

T-mac pushing higher up creates a bit of extra space for Pruess and the smalls To work in.  Hunt will also have a little more freedom to lead Into.

Tracc also needs to play off a wing and/or partially inside mid and move out of the forward line for things to start working IMO.

Let's face it, the lack of confidence of T-mac and Tracc in front of goal is presently a massive coach and team killer.  Both need to play well up the field amd others with a little more polish left to their own devices to produce a better return on the incredible amount of inside looks we are producing.  Too much waste so far this season on such enormous effort from a very capable mid field (apart from the inside 50 finish which has been mostly deplorable!).

On his own, i agree, Pruess isn't the answer.  It's what you do with the overall structure and method that just might result in a cohesive forward line that finally clicks and sees significant improvement on what we've had.  Any significant improvement on the mess we've seen so far will be a major step forward.

If we keep going with more of the same, against decent opposition, we will get more of the same results ie;  great effort and application but just another L on the board due to our woeful inability to convert.

I agree, our defence isn’t actually the problem right now. Keep the faith with the same guys back there this week and when he’s completely ready we will be better for it.

In a season full of incredibly dumb selections and player management decisions, that would be by far the dumbest. If they are sensible they wouldn't even contemplate selecting Lever until after the bye.

That said, I don't think the 6-6-6 rule suits Lever and I expect him to struggle significantly this season. I'm not sure that we can play both he and Hore in the same team as neither is great when defending 1v1.

Great post but you forgot to mention that Preuss can also kick straight unlike others in the forward line

If they go ultra conservative with the concussions and rest all 3 players then we've got the following to choose from.

Lewis

Lever

C Wagner

Sparrow

Preuss

Keilty

Chandler

Jordon

Maynard

Lewis and Preuss would be the first 2 selected, however they'd then have to choose from one of Lever. Wagner, Sparrow, Keilty, Chandler, Jordon or Maynard. Really scraping the barrel there and you could then possibly understand them choosing Lever out of necessity. Though you'd suspect they'll still stick to the plan of Lever playing a few weeks in the VFL.

relax guys, its just the herald sun writing rubbish like usual.

MFC website states Lever, Hannan, JKH all playing at Casey this weekend

we might have a few guys back for QB!!   Hannan and Lever is exactly what we desperately need

Jumped the gun again didn't you, fair dinkum people respond to any piece of media garbage they read or hear. How the hell would you know yet, if the new rules effect the way Lever plays

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
